Board of Education Yadkin County Schools Yadkinville, NC A regular meeting of the Yadkin County Board of Education was held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 9:00a.m. at Starmount High School. 10. The Board reviewed the September Schedule of Activities. Comments Dr. Martin stated that the first two weeks of school had gone well and that is was a very smooth start thanks to all the employees. He stated he could not say enough about the hard work of the employees leading up to going back to school and that he was excited about where we are going as a system. He also stated that our high school graduation rate is the highest it has ever been. He thanked Mr. Hemric and his staff for hosting the Board meeting and for the breakfast. Ashley Johnson informed the Board that the first two weeks of school at Starmount High went well. She stated that the Guidance Department is working hard to get schedules correct and that Mr. Allen s classes has done a lot of work and the grounds at Starmount look well groomed. She also stated that the sports teams are very young, but everyone is working hard and they are off to a great start. Michaela Allred stated that Forbush High is off to a good start. She stated that schedule changes are being done and the Seniors got new chrome books this year and we like those. She also stated that there was a senior meeting to discuss the importance of SAT and ACT scores. The meeting also talked to Seniors about starting their applications to colleges. In addition, she stated that the Unifi Bowl is coming up and the school is having a prep rally and Chris Hauser is hosting a school wide tailgate event. Joe Dezern thanked Mr. Hemric and Starmount High School for their hospitality and allowing us to be here today. He stated he appreciated the presentation made by Starmount and that this was just an example of student the success we have in our school system and we have a lot to be proud of. He also stated that he heard Dr. Martin on the radio this morning giving a school update and that he did not realize we were doing all the things he mentioned. He stated he hopes everyone has a great school year and is off to a good start. Sam Crews thanked Mr. Hemric for hosting the meeting and stated he enjoyed the presentation and that it was good to see kids smiling and see happiness and good memories. He also thanked those responsible for putting together the Compassion Care presentation. In addition, he stated that he enjoyed receiving the shout out emails and getting to read about teachers in our county. He stated he was glad the start of the year was going well and that he had heard good things about our school system. Jennifer Hemric thanked Starmount High School for their hospitality. She stated she appreciated those that prepared and presented the Compassion Care presentation. She also stated she was looking forward to good things to come and was excited about the upcoming football game. Lynn Allred thanked Starmount High School and Mr. Hemric for hosting the Board meeting and asked Mr. Hemric to let the students who put the video together that it was well made and that he would like to congratulate the students on their accomplishments and was proud of the schools in our county. He also thanked the presenters for the Compassion Care presentation and stated it sounds like a great program. In addition, he stated that as we get ready to have the Unifi Bowl 8

competition on the football field, that the game was also about the communities of the two high schools; however, it was one county and he looked forward to reviving old friendships. He stated he hopes everyone supports the food drive and it was important to recognize those people in uniform for the unselfish work they do. Tim Weatherman thanked Starmount High School for their hospitality and Compassion Care for their presentation and he appreciated their willingness to reach children. He stated he also enjoyed the Starmount High presentation and that he didn t realize students could get their Microsoft certification and felt that his was a great opportunity. In addition, he stated that he also enjoyed the shout out emails from Dr. Martin. He wished both teams good luck in the upcoming Unifi Bowl. Rex Baity thanked Starmount High School for hosting the Board meeting. He also stated that he was glad school was off to a good start and thanked everyone for the job they do. Howard McKnight thanked Mr. Hemric and his staff for hosting the Board meeting and the presentation. He also thanked Compassion Care for their presentation and stated it was interesting to see how the program is presented to students. He stated that the opening of school has been good and he hopes this continues throughout the year. He thanked Dr. Martin and his staff for their work to prepare for the opening of school. He also wished good luck to both teams at the Unifi Bowl on Friday night.
