If you require documents for F-1 student visa status, you can use this worksheet to prepare for the online international application. If you are a U.S. citizen, are a permanent resident (green card holder), or have another nonimmigrant status and do not wish to change it to F-1 Student Visa status, complete the domestic application worksheet found at unlv.edu/admissions. Application Deadline If you are already in F-1 visa status and will transfer your I-20 to UNLV, you must submit the online application and all required documents by the deadlines listed below. Spring 2010: Nov. 13, 2009 Fall 2010: Aug. 6, 2010 Official school records must be sent directly from each school, college, or university attended in a sealed envelope before an evaluation can occur. An official translation is required if the transcript is not in English. Student-translated transcripts will not be reviewed. Students who have completed secondary school but have not completed 24 transferable college credits must submit secondary school records. The transcript must show a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (A=4.0), or the equivalent. An official transcript is required for each postsecondary educational institution attended whether or not credit was earned. The transcript must show a minimum 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (A=4.0), or the equivalent. If you require a new U.S. Immigration Form I-20 to request an F-1 student visa at a U.S. Consulate visa-issuing office, you must submit your online application and all required documents by the deadlines listed below. Spring 2010: Nov. 2, 2009 Fall 2010: July 5, 2010 Application Checklist Submit the following official documents to the Office of Admissions at the address listed below. The evaluation of academic credentials to determine eligibility for admission is made only when all required items are received. Complete the International Student Application Complete the international student application for undergraduate admission online at unlv.edu/admissions. To assist in proper identification, please include all names you have used on the school documents you are sending to UNLV. Also, include any legal name change information. Pay the Application Fee Complete the online application and pay with a credit or debit card. If you are unable to pay with a credit or debit card, call 702-774-8658. Submit official transcripts (report of all courses attempted and results) from all secondary and/or postsecondary schools attended. Submit Proof of English Proficiency (one of the following) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A score of 500 or better is required for general admission (173 on the computer-based test or 61 on ibt), and a 525 or better to major in Hotel Administration (193 or higher on the computer-based test or 73 on ibt). The scores must be sent directly to UNLV by the testing service. Information concerning TOEFL testing dates and sites may be obtained by writing to TOEFL Services Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151, USA, or by visiting toefl.org. To have scores sent to UNLV, please use the undergraduate score reporting number, 4861. The Michigan Test of English Proficiency: This test is offered at UNLV and can be used in place of the TOEFL exam. A score of 76 percent or better is needed for general admission or 80 percent or better for Hotel Administration. Only scores from UNLV s Michigan Test are accepted. For information on the Michigan Test, please call UNLV s English Language Center at 702-895-3925. University-level course result from a college in the United States that is equivalent to UNLV s English 101 with a grade of C or above. Four years of college preparation high school English courses in the U.S. and appropriate ACT or SAT scores If you are academically admissible to UNLV, but your English proficiency scores/grades do not meet the requirement, you may be placed in the English Language Center. You will be permitted to enroll in academic classes upon proving that your English language ability meets UNLV s admission requirements. After You ve Received a Decision The Office of International Students and Scholars issues the I-20 Form once a favorable decision has been reached regarding admission to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Instructions and additional information can be found on the Confidential Certification Form attached to this application. Before the I-20 can be issued, a bank letter certifying the availability of funds sufficient to cover the estimated expenses for the academic year you wish to begin your studies and a completed Confidential Financial Certification Form must be received by the Office of International Students and Scholars. Reference List for Programs, Majors, and Certificates Indicate your first- and second-choice major on this application. Students may enter UNLV without declaring a major by choosing the undeclared major as their first choice with no second choice. If you do not meet the admission requirements for your first choice, the university reserves the right to place you in your second-choice major or undeclared major where your academic advisor will be in the Academic Success Center. Please note: For many of UNLV s majors, students are admitted into a college and then placed into a major once they have met with an academic advisor.
