Elanora State High School Year 12 2017 QTAC for students planning to do a Uni degree or TAFE Diploma QTAC = Qld Tertiary Admissions Centre QTAC manages entry to most uni degrees and TAFE diplomas from Cairns (far north Qld) to Armidale (NSW) QTAC advertises courses at Bond Uni, SAE and some other private colleges and you then apply direct (not through QTAC) QTAC applications for Year 12s are done from Aug 3 to Sept 30 Applications cost $42, are done online, take about 25 mins, need LUI Use a laptop, PC or tablet/i-pad (phone screen too small)
QTAC applications Know what you are good at and apply for a course that will help you get a job in that area If still unsure, go back to the Job Guide, myfuture website or talk to a teacher/family member/friend/guidance Officer to help you work out what you are good at/passionate about When you decide which courses you want to do, check pre-requisites then apply (can have up to 6 preferences) If not sure which degrees to choose, look at QTAC guide then see Guidance Officer Ms Kyme to get some more definite ideas about ideal courses and back-up courses
Be positive!! Please DO NOT assume you won t get into uni please talk to people and HAVE A GO!! If you are not eligible for your ideal course, look at which back-up course or pathway will get you to where you want to go Apply for DIRECT ENTRY to Uni or TAFE for any desired course you are eligible for Southern Cross Uni and GC TAFE have direct entry based on doing well in a relevant Year 12 subject area Some universities offer a OP 1 to 5 guarantee for courses Have a go at any scholarship you are eligible for!!
QTAC offers start in late November Performing Arts courses may have an audition or require a portfolio check QTAC Guide ASAP re this as many close by mid August Performing Arts course offers are usually made in mid December Direct entry offers (SCU, GC TAFE, GU GUESTS) are made in late November this also allows you to select your classes/timetable before the main offer round (January) Early offers will be made by some Universities including Griffith if you have applied, meet criteria including required subjects and OP and have put Griffith as #1, you will receive an offer on about Dec 22

Scholarships Academic very good results and some leadership/community service Faculty good results in subjects related to your chosen degree Sport Qld or Australian rep Indigenous you have Indigenous heritage Equity low family income (need Centrelink CRN when doing app) HAVE A GO at anything you are eligible for!!
Bonus Schemes LOTE and Maths C will give you a bonus RANK (1 point) for most courses at most unis GUESTS gives you 1 bonus rank Griffith Uni has expanded their bonus rank scheme to many subjects see their website for details
EAS (Special Consideration) Educational Access Scheme Financial hardship Personal illness or disability Home environment or responsibilities Educational disruption English language difficulty EAS will ensure that a QTAC staff member looks at your application to check how much better your OP would have been if you did not have the above situations to deal with in Year 11/12
Fees!! Course fees can be found on the QTAC website for each course Prices range from $5000/year upwards CSP = Commonwealth Supported Places (Aust citizens start paying back through tax when earning about $55 000/year, NZ citizens pay upfront each year, International students pay Int fees) Fees in QTAC book (mainly TAFE courses) means at least $5000/year so check this before applying Subsidised TAFE courses are cheaper as they are in skill shortage areas community services, accounting, nursing, hospitality QTAC application cost is $42 includes 3 free change of preferences
Be careful!! If you plan to take a Gap Year or join the Defence Force, it is recommended that you still do a QTAC application to maximise your options Ensure that you don t put any courses starting in July as #1-3 as this will mean you are not considered for the Feb/March start offers If you plan to go to a private RTO/college to do a Diploma, please discuss with Mr McCulloch, Ms Kyme or Mrs Hargrave first. Some RTOs have been signing students up for courses costing $2000+ and it has caused all sorts of problems as the young person hasn t read the fine print!!!
ORDER YOUR PREFERENCES CORRECTLY Make sure you meet the entry requirements for each course preference you list. Check fixed closing dates on the QTAC website and in the Year 12 Guide some courses close early or have other fixed dates you need to follow. If you re applying for courses that are being offered in major offer rounds, make sure you order them as per the major offer round date.

Other options Defence Force make an appt with staff at the Robina office soon to gain the facts, know what the entry requirements are for the job you desire Gap Year suggest you apply for uni and defer in case you change your mind or want to start in July 2018 If you have decided to do a trade, register with GC TAFE by end of September for pre-voc trade courses or see Mrs Hargrave/Ms Kyme for other options (private providers)
STAR Early Entry
Year 12 students STAR Early Entry enables Year 12 students to gain early admission to Southern Cross University on the basis of their school principal's recommendation. STAR Early Entry matches an individual student to a particular SCU course based on their likelihood of success in their chosen discipline. What are the benefits of SCU STAR Early Entry? Successful applicants will receive their offer to Southern Cross University ahead of the crowd. You won't need to wait to find out your Year 12 results before you start making plans for university. The University will notify Queensland students in mid-october and New South Wales students in mid- November of the outcome of their application. You can get in ahead of everyone else to organise all the things you need to make your transition to university as smooth as possible. There are no fees associated with your STAR Early Entry registration.
Can I apply for all SCU courses through STAR Early Entry? Most SCU undergraduate courses are available through STAR. There are some exceptions the Bachelor of Midwifery and our Education degrees. Applications for these courses can be made via UAC or QTAC.
Who is eligible to apply for STAR Early Entry? Only Year 12 students who attend school in the Greater Gold Coast, Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Upper Hunter, Namoi, New England, or North West NSW regions. Browse a full list of eligible schools in the SCU region.
