Center for Middle East & Africa Business Markets in Europe are stagnating. As a result, an increasing number of Swiss companies are entering new, more dynamic markets, with the Middle East and Africa (MEA) offering promising opportunities. It is this development that inspired the ZHAW School of Management and Law to set up the first Center for Middle East & Africa Business in Switzerland and to develop specific services for these regions. CENTER FOR MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA BUSINESS We are a competent team of experts with in-depth knowledge, extensive experience, and valuable business contacts in the GCC states, Iran, Turkey, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The MEA team observes and analyzes developments in these countries, and offers a range of competencies and experiences including international business / internationalization, strategic management and leadership, cultural coaching, Islamic banking, international negotiation, and international project management. A university of applied sciences in Switzerland has a statutory mandate to deliver BSc and MSc programs and be engaged in continuing education, research, and consulting. This enables it to provide highly professional services to its customers, taking into consideration their individual needs and requirements: Jointly with its customers, the Center for Middle East & Africa Business develops new strategies and processes to internationalize their business activities and strengthen their position in the markets they wish to target. Effective tailor-made solutions are the result of a unique mix of competencies and interdisciplinary collaboration with the university s other centers and departments as well as with partner universities around the world. AN ACTIVE NETWORK Our network includes various Swiss trade associations and chambers of commerce, as well as their members, in particular the ones already active in MEA markets or interested in entering a market in one of these regions. We are highly committed to acting as their network partner, agent, academic partner, and/or consultant. We are continually expanding and enhancing our network in the Middle East and in Africa. The services we offer can also be delivered onsite, for instance at the offices of a subsidiary or local institution in the preferred region. COOPERATION PARTNERS SWISS AFRICAN BUSINESS CIRCLE

Our Competencies Your Benefits CONTINUING EDUCATION No other region in the world will need as many well-qualified professionals over the next few years as Africa and the Middle East. In Switzerland, employees with relevant business experience involving Africa or the Middle East are rare, despite their importance for the success of companies operating in these regions. We have developed continuing education courses and programs to cater to these companies demands for knowledge and know-how. They offer a mix of academic education and practical training ranging from executive Master s programs to courses for young managers and tailor-made workshops or seminars for local government officials and company employees. CUSTOMIZED TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Working with our customers, we design and deliver practically oriented training courses and workshops to address their specific needs for growth, development, and sustainability. These make use of proven methods and learning tools, which are adapted to the requirements and the setup of a customer s organization. Additionally, we offer and run simulation training for executives in international environments. Middle East & Africa are fast growing regions with huge resources and a large number of customers; entering and developing business in these culturally different markets is a challenge. We help you to solve these challenges in a sustainable manner. RESEARCH Different forms of collaboration are available and can be tailored to suit individual requirements in terms of applied research. These include thesis projects, research commissions, as well as publicly funded research and development projects with an international focus (e.g., CTI projects). CONSULTING The consulting portfolio of our regional competence center oriented to the needs of the business community and government bodies. We work closely with customers to advise them on designing and implementing internationalization and market entry strategies, developing business plans, and conducting business in a multi-cultural environment. By pooling expertise from across the university, our scope extends to many sectors and fields.
