Improve your French in New Caledonia A three-week training period to improve your level in a French university To prepare yourself before to going to France Minimum level required : B1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) Period: from November 17th to December 7th 2014 Availabilities : 45 students maximum, divided into three groups of 15 people
Course overview 56 hours courses and visits Creative writing workshop and grammar (12h) Oral and written practice (16 h) Phonetics, pronunciation and oral expressions (10 h) Lectures sessions on themes related to New Caledonia (6 h) Writing a portfolio (weekly newspaper edge) Cultural activities tours to museums, parks, cultural weekends (12 h) Sports and outdoor activities
At the end of the training, you will undertake assessment in all four courses You receive a teaching report from the UNC, a transcript mentioning the number of ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) You have also the opportunity to take the TCF test (Test de Connaissance du Français), official French certification valid 2 years (optional cost) Assessment
Cultural activities Sport and discoveries A program of activities is offered throughout the summer school : Visits of the Tjibaou cultural center, museums, aquarium Sports and outdoor activities Cycling tour and forest trails hiking Trips to the beach, wildlife park, lagoon etc. French movie nights and culinary evenings
2014 UoA Eligibility Criteria Students majoring in French or enrolled in a DipLang are eligible to apply providing they have either: a) Pass grade in FRENCH 204, 278 or Stage II non-language course or b) B grade in FRENCH 203 & co-enrolment in FRENCH 204 or 269, SC 2013; or c) Pass grade in French 304, 305, 377 or 378 NB: students who have attended the UNC French Summer School in past years are not eligible to apply.
Course Requirements Compulsory attendance at all classes, lectures and cultural activities Final grade determined by UNC: pass grade = FRENCH 278 or 377 or 378 cross-credit (UoA GPA remains unchanged) Successful applicants agree to a) comply with all UNC rules and regulations b) be ambassadors for the next UNC French Summer School
Practical Considerations, I French Summer School dates: Mon 17/11/14 Sun 07/12/14 Travel : Each student must arrange own Air Travel and Insurance. Travel dates : Depart: Sun. 16/11/14 Return: Wed. 10/12/14 Flights to and from New Caledonia are limited. We advise you book and pay for your air travel and insurance as soon as you are offered a place. UNC has generously offered to extend accommodation beyond actual course dates. Students wishing to stay on in New Caledonia past the above return date must make their own accommodation arrangements. UNC will not accept responsibility for students after this date. Neither the French Department UoA nor UNC will be responsible for students Air Travel. No student will be allowed to attend the Summer School without comprehensive travel insurance.

Financial Assistance UOA Study Abroad Scholarships (up to $2,000): applications due by 30/09/14; awards announced in October www.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/cs-scholarships-for-study-overseas (expected outcome of a strong application: ca $500) French Department Scholarships: up to 2 scholarships of $400 each; awards announced on offer of place. French Embassy Scholarship: TBA NB: scholarships are fully reimbursable in the case of noncompletion of the course or if a pass grade is not achieved.

If your dossier is sufficiently strong, we may be able to offer you a firm place before the deadline, to enable you to book travel and insurance early. We will require the $200 non-refundable deposit in order to secure your place.
