ISABS MUMBAI CHAPTER ANNOUNCES THE MONSOON EVENT BARKHA- 2015 SEPTEMBER 29- OCTOBER 3 2015 At: Dr Modi s Resort Karjat Page 1 of 10
ABOUT ISABS: Founded in 1972, Indian Society for Applied Behavioral Science (ISABS) is a national, voluntary professional body of behavioral scientists engaged in applying their knowledge and skill to the well being of persons, organizations & communities. Its members work as community change agents, independent consultants, trainers, counselors, academicians, and human resource development managers. ISABS programs focus on helping people to understand human processes better, and discover more creative and satisfying ways of relating and working. ISABS utilizes group and experience- based learning as its main learning methodology. Experiencing, reflecting, hypothesizing, conceptualizing and experimenting, rather than lectures are the chief ingredients in this process of learning. ISABS also develops professionals, capable of facilitating such experience- based learning in organizational and societal contexts. HUMAN PROCESS LABORATORIES: In a human process laboratory, a group of around 8 to 10 participants work together along with facilitator[s] to learn about human processes and discover more about themselves, their strengths & styles; interpersonal and group interactions; how they perceive others and are perceived by others. While this is the primary task, there is no pre- determined agenda and the group uses the 'here and now' experience to derive this learning, using one another as resources. The facilitator helps to create a climate for such learning. ISABS operates from values of trust and inclusiveness while ensuring integrity and sensitivity to all the stakeholders present during an event. The primary language for the facilitation is likely to be English. However, the language of conversation in a lab depends on the comfort and comprehension of the group members and it is likely that more than one language (English/Hindi/ Marathi) may be utilized during the lab. Each group will be facilitated by certified professional members of ISABS, drawn primarily from the Mumbai region.. The event may also have those pursuing professional development with ISABS in the role of an intern (who will co- facilitate) or as an observer. A complete list of professional members is available on the website (http:///pm.php) Page 2 of 10

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS CAN I OPT FOR AN ALHP STRAIGHTAWAY? I AM A TRAINER/FACILITATOR/CEO/MD/EXPERIENCED IN THIS FIELD ETC. NO. You cannot opt for an ALPHP without doing a BLHP and being cleared by the facilitator of your lab to go ahead with an ALHP. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN ALHP AND BLHP? The focus of learning in both labs is different. Briefly speaking, BLHP looks at human processes at self- level and ALHP looks at human processes at interpersonal level. However, such processes are not defined in a black and white manner and elements of the same emerge in the lab, depending on the group dynamics. Please read the program objectives of both labs to understand the differences in detail. WHAT SUPPORT CAN I GET POST LAB? CAN I CONTACT THE FACILITATOR POST LAB, IF I NEED HELP? ISABS believes in supporting as a community and the professional members are available for help, if any. We hold meetings in the chapter to stay connected and continue learning. CAN A PARTICIPANT SELECT HIS/HER FACILITATOR AND OR LAB MATES? Small groups for labs are created by the Facilitators keeping in mind various aspects that bring diversity to a group, thereby enhancing learning for all. Participants therefore cannot choose whom to work with. However, a participant may indicate at the venue AFTER small groups are formed, if he/she is placed in a group with familiar people, which may hinder their learning process in any way. We endeavor to make it possible to best of our ability to make the learning conducive to all. However, in an ALHP, alternatives may or may not be available depending on how many ALHP labs are running at the event. CAN WE GET TO SHARE ROOMS WITH PEOPLE WE KNOW? CAN WE CHOOSE OUR ROOM- MATES? In interest of creating an opportunity for a wider experiential learning, as well as providing space for experimenting and exploring, we recommend that all work be done with members not known to you.
