The perfect summer break program Orange Coast College English professor and award-winning author and screenwriter Raymond Obstfeld will be taking a group of students to Cambridge, England. After two weeks of classes at OCC, students will live and study for five weeks in the beautiful and historic town of Cambridge, home to one of the world s most prestigious universities. Why study in cambridge? Cambridge is a beautiful place to live and study. Home to the worldfamous University (which is now over 800 years old!), the town also boasts some of the country s finest museums, art galleries and theatres. Students will live and study in Cambridge, England for five weeks after completing two weeks of classes at OCC. Through this students will be able to combine the travel and excitement of living and studying abroad with the completion of an OCC-accredited course. From those looking to pursue creative writing, Cambridge is a truly inspirational place to write - at least, famous authors (from Sylvia Plath to John Milton, and Virginia Woolf to Lord Byron) thought so. Expert instruction offered alongside the unique environment of Cambridge provides the opportunity for students to dramatically improve their writing. For those with an interest in Film and Literature, Cambridge has a rich history, having produced some of the finest actors (Sir Ian McKellen - The Lord of the Rings, King Lear), actresses (Emma Thompson - The Remains of the Day, An Education), directors (Paul Greengrass - The Bourne Ultimatum) and authors (Sebastian Faulks, Nick Hornby, Zadie Smith) in the world. Students are provided with their individual dorm rooms for five weeks. Half board meals are provided in the price of the program, Monday to Thursday. Normally all breakfasts are in one of the college s stunning formal dining halls, with two dinners also being held. Students are able to experience dining in one of Cambridge s finest establishments. Previously, students have stayed at Girton College and Sidney Sussex College. About the professor Raymond Obstfeld is the author of over 45 published books of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, as well as dozens of screenplays. His most recent works were both co-authored with basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabaar and both became New York Times bestsellers. Together they won the 2012 NAACP Image Award. Ray has enjoyed past programs so much that this will be his 11th time accompanying students abroad!
