OUR STUDENTS ARE TALKING ABOUT US Yung-Chang - Taiwan I think International House is good for our study. There are lots of good teachers and a lot of classrooms. I like my class because our teachers have lots of games, sometimes we can play games and watch video, maybe we can go out for teams, so there are some interesting things I like. It s very good for me! Nadia - Spain I first came to study in 1997. The reason I chose the school was the range of activities on offer such as English & Diving and the Travelling Classroom. I was so impressed by the quality and friendly atmosphere of the school that I decided to come back in 2002. I did a general English course and when I saw how professional and competent the teachers are I extended again to study the Cambridge Proficiency Exam. Xavier - Switzerland The teachers keep the courses interesting and constructive, they watch weekly for your progression. Furthermore they are always ready to give the extra help you would need. In the winter season, when down in the south the weather is cold and rainy, up here you can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere. It is a good place to mix studies and leisure time. Ayu - Japan IH is a good school for young people like me. They will give you more help and the teachers will teach you different things to other adult students. The school environment is also very good. It s important for your study. The students are friendly and the teachers are patient and nice. There is a morning tea break from 10.30am to 11.00am and a lunch break from 12 noon until 1.00pm. Cambridge students finish at 3pm and are welcome to stay for self access classes if they wish to. How many students will be in my class? The average class size is 10 12 students. If you are doing a Cambridge Exam course the maximum number of students in the class will be 12. If your English language level is high enough and your academic record is good you can choose to go onto further study. In most cases you will need to do an IELTS test and gain the required results in this test for entry to some institutions. Depending on the course of study you do, you may be able to get credit for your previous studies. IH has many direct entry agreements with Universities, TAFEs, Colleges and Schools please ask the school directly for assistance with your application to these institutions. Where there are direct entry agreements in place, you will not be required to sit an IELTS test for entry. You will have to pass assessment at IH and get a report from IH to confirm that you are ready for your further study course. What sort of visa do I need? If you are planning to study full time and for longer than 12 weeks, you will need to travel to Cairns on a student visa. If you plan to study for less than 12 weeks then you may travel on a Visitor or Working Holiday visa. How do I get to and from school each day? Students usually rent or purchase a bike. The Crocodile Club can help you with the best option. Alternatively there is a private bus company, with regular schedules around town. What do I do in my spare time? There is so much to do in Cairns. Once you start your course you will make friends with other students and often you will do things together after class and on weekends. The school arranges different activities each week these include soccer games, volleyball games, pool nights, drinks at an Aussie Pub, tours to the reef/rainforest, horseriding, visits to Cape Tribulation just to name some. When you start at International House Cairns, you will see all the different activities available on our notice board. Where can I send and receive emails? The school has computer rooms set up for use by classes. The computers are then available for students to use during their breaks and before and after class. This service is free of charge. Wireless facilities are available throughout the school so students can bring their own lap top computers if they wish.
