Wowzers Classroom Setup Process 1) Log In Go to login.wowzers.com and enter your e mail address and password. 2) Click Create New Classroom button or link If you do not have any classrooms yet, the Create a classroom now link will be presented to you. Otherwise, just click the + symbol next to the school name. Please note a classroom must be created before creating a group. See Group Tab for more information. 3) Fill in Add Classroom Information and click Create Classroom The grade determines the default Classroom Path curriculum. 2

4) Select Pre test, Set Adaptive Lessons and Free Time You can assign a Pre test right from set up by checking box. You can also assign it at a later time. Each of the bubbles under Adaptive Lessons is a different activity in a day. If a student gets 100% on the tryout, they will skip to whatever activity you select here. You can set it anywhere from never skipping (select L), to skipping the entire day and going to the next day s tryout (select the last T). Free Time is the amount of time a student gets after a quiz to explore the mall or their Buzzpod, buy new items for their avatar or Buzzpod, and change the way they look with the items they bought. When you re done with these settings, click the Update Classroom button. 3

5a) Uploading a Student Roster The first way you can create your students accounts is by uploading a classroom roster. There are two templates available for download. The only required fields are the students first and last names. Click import after selecting a file.. There are some common pitfalls that come with the importer. Only one sheet per spreadsheet is allowed. Passwords must be at least 6 characters long. Spelling matters for the headers. First Name works, firstname does not. Two students can not have the same Username or first and last name. Each column must be unique. If you have two First Name columns, the second will be ignored. Only one classroom can be included per spreadsheet. 5b) Inputting a Student Roster The other way you can create your students accounts is by manually inputting each of their names. You can add a row for a new student by clicking the Add Student button, and you can delete a row by clicking the red x to the right of the row. This method of creation is usually easier with small classrooms. When you are done adding students, click Save Changes. 4

6) WARNING! After importing or manually inputting your students, you will go to a page that shows your students usernames and passwords. There is a PDF you can download that will have your class roster on it but this is the only time you will be able to access your student's passwords without resetting them. After you have downloaded the PDF, you can click Show Classroom at the bottom of the page. 5

7) Editing Your Classroom Path Path Tab Now that you have a classroom, you can customize what sections your students will cover by changing the Classroom Path. The page you are on should look like this: Click the Path tab in the upper right. This will take you to your Classroom Path page where you can click the Edit button to start making changes. 6

8) Ways to Edit A) Clear Path If you want to start with a completely blank path, this will clear out all the sections in the path, leaving it empty. Make sure you add sections back into it. B) Add New Sections This will allow you to add additional sections to the Classroom Path. You can even add an entire grade s curriculum at once. C) Sorting and Turning On/Off You can click on the arrows to the left of the bar to drag it up and down and reorder the sections you currently have on the list. You can also turn sections, days, or activities off by clicking the eye on the right of the bar. You can expand the section by clicking on it; you can turn off days, or expand the days and turn off individual 7

activities. D) Saving Once you are done customizing your Classroom Path, click the Save Changes button. 8

Additionally you can choose to turn on/off activities in your path at once. 9

Teacher Dashboard The Reports Dashboard is your default view for examining your Classrooms. The Reports Dashboard displays a large table with each student on a row and columns that represent specific curriculum Sections (i.e. "6.2 Decimals" or "7.9 Simplifying Expressions"). This table will be filled in with your students scores as they complete the Sections. A) The column on the left lets you select which of your Classrooms or Groups you'd like to view, and shows some overall performance statistics. B) The "Scroll to" drop down menu lets you quickly shift the table to view a particular Section. You can also use the tall arrow buttons along the edge of the table to scroll the table forward and back by a single Section. Or, you can use the "go to" link above each student's name to scroll the table to whichever Section that student is currently playing. C) You can use the "Show" drop down menu to control what Sections you see. "Sections in Path" will show only the Sections that are a part of the Curriculum Path for the Classroom or Group that you're viewing. "All Sections" will show all of the Sections in the Wowzers Curriculum. 10

Built In Intervention This is a broad look at a classroom's statistics. The graph shows you how the classroom is doing overall. The bars and tiers on the left are a quick way to group together struggling students and students who are doing well. You can hover over the bars and tiers of the active classroom (the classroom you are currently looking at) to view more information. You can also click on the bars and tiers to view the students in that group. When you hover over it, the color of each tiers on the left will match the color of the "people" icons in the sections table on the rest of the page where the students are listed. 11

Scores Within the scores table itself you will see indicators of your students progress, giving you the ability to gauge all of their performance from a single page. To see more information about student performance over a particular Section, click the magnifying glass. 12

The table will then display scores for each Day of the Section. You can also click the magnifying glass on each day to see specific information on each Activity in a Day. Sorting the Report Dashboard Any column can be sorted using these black arrows. Click once for descending order, and twice for ascending order. Sorting the Reports Dashboard is a great way to identify students who are most in need of intervention. You can even create custom Groups directly from the Dashboard if you need to assign students special assignments. 13

Additional Options on Dashboard When selecting a student or students, tabs open up that provide additional options. 14

A) The "Select Activity" button will take you to the Classroom or Group Path, and let you select exactly where in the Path you want the selected students to start playing. The "Move to Next" button will simply move the students on to the next activity in their Path. This is useful if a student is stuck and you want to move them on. It's also useful if you have changed them to a different Path, and want them to move to it before finishing their current activity. a) Both of these options will immediately move the student. They will not have a chance to finish the activity to which they are currently assigned. b) NOTE: If you use "Select Activity" from a Classroom Dashboard it will take you to that Classroom Path. If you use "Select Activity" from a Group Dashboard it will take you to that Group Path. When you select an activity, it will move all the students you selected to that Path. If a student still has content in their Temporary Path, they will move back to it after one activity. You'll need to edit their Temporary Path and disable the content in it. B) This is the fastest way to create a Group. On the Classroom Dashboard, use the check marks next to the students names to select the students you want to be in the Group. Then select the "Create Group" tab from the options that appear at the top of the page. a) Give the Group a name, and check the box if you are ready for the students to start playing this Group Path. Then click the "Create Custom Group" button. b) This will take you to the Path editor. Click the "Add New Sections" button, and choose the sections you would like to add to the Path. c) Click the "Save Changes" button when you've added the Sections you want. After you save the Path, you can go back in and disable individual Days and Activities within the Sections if you don't want students to play them. C) Assessment Tab Because your students have already started playing content, you can assign the assessment using the students' Temporary Paths. a) Use the checkboxes next to each student's name to select the students you would like to take the Assessment. 15

b) When you select students a box will open up at the top of the page. c) Select the "Assessments" tab and use the drop down menus to select the Assessment you would like them to take. d) Click the "Assign Content" button. e) This will add the Assessment to the students' Temporary Paths. They will begin the Assessment when they finish the activity to which they are currently assigned. If you would like them to start immediately, use the "Move to Next" feature to push them on manually. f) When the student finishes the Assessment they will return to the Path they were on before you assigned the Assessment (assuming you haven't added anything else to their Temporary Path). D) To assign a Test Prep, pick the grade level and concept you would like the students to practice. a) Check the "Move Immediately" box if you want them to start immediately. Leave the box unchecked if you want them to finish their current activity first. b) Click the "Assign Content" button and the assessment will be added to the student's Temporary Path. c) You can see the results of these assessments by clicking the student's name to go to their profile page, and then clicking "Quiz Scores. Test Prep assessments will show up above the other content under the heading "Test Prep Activities." Click their score to see the individual questions and how the student answered. The Wowzers Test Prep feature allows you to assign your students a randomized assessment. This is intended as a way for a student to practice taking next generation digital assessments like those from PARCC and Smarter Balanced. Test Prep assessments are designed to give students practice with these new types of questions, not necessarily to gauge their mastery of math concepts. As such, these assessments have the following features: 1) Students can use forward and back buttons to move around and change answers. Students must enter a guess to move on. Answers cannot be left blank. 16

2) The assessment will continue indefinitely until the student chooses to stop or you move them to another activity. These assessments draw from a bank of hundreds of questions, so there is only a small chance that a student will encounter the same question if they take the Test Prep assessment multiple times. E) You can also award students extra coins. Select the student or students you want to award, then click on Coins and enter the amount. Coins are the incentive system in Wowzers. Students get coins for completing activities and answering questions correctly in quizzes. They will also collect coins as they complete Games and Quests. F) This tab allows you to easily make edits to a student or students. Similar to the individual student settings, you can quickly make the same changes from this tab. Refer to individual student information below. G) Reset Password Tab. If you lose your passwords, you can use this option to reset them. If you have a specific password you want to use, you can do so by clicking on the Class Roster Tab. If you're ready, click "Confirm" on the warning message and print or download the list that it generates. Please note this will generate random passwords for your students. 17

Student Profile To access a student s profile, click on a student s name from the dashboard. 18

Number of Coins Earned Coins are the incentive system in Wowzers. Students get coins for completing activities and answering questions correctly in quizzes. They will also collect coins as they complete Games and Quests. At the end of each Day, when students are in Free Time, they can spend their coins in the Wowzers mall. They can buy clothes and accessories for their Avatar as well as decorations for their BuzzPod. You can also view general information about their login information, adaptive settings, remediation, and free time. Actions To make changes to any of the student s general information, simply click on Edit or Delete Student under the Actions heading. 19

Reviewing Word Problems under Actions These questions are the open ended extended response questions the student has answered, which need to be graded by the instructor. The grading rubric is located on the right corner. 20

Reports Quiz Scores This is an overview of all the sections in a grade. To move to another grade, use the Select a Grade button. Test prep scores also shown here. You can click on any of the scores to see the questions in the assessment. You can also click o n Download Scores PDF to get a report. 21

Standards Progress Report This provides an overview of standards progress. It is viewable by Content, Pre Assessment, or Post Assessment. If your students took a pre and post, you can view a Compare Assessments report. You can also use the filters to view specific standards by mastery. This report can be downloaded and printed in PDF format. 22

Standards Growth Report This provides in graph form a growth report of all standards your students encounter within Wowzers. 23

Individual Activity Report With this view, users can view a detailed look of all of a student s activities and time spent on Wowzers. You also have the option to export this information as a CSV file. Assign Activity to This Student You can assign one or more activities to this student. The student will finish their current activity, complete all these activities, and then return to their regular curriculum. You can assign a full section, single day, or single activity. You can also choose to View Temporary Path and manually add content. Please refer to setting up a path for guidance. After being assigned a Temporary path, the student will complete the activity they are currently working on. Once completed, they will begin the Temporary path. Once they complete the Temporary path, they will continue where they left off on the Classroom path. (i.e. If student is working on 6.1, Day 2, Lesson and the teacher assigns 6.1 Day 1, the student will finish off the 6.1 Day 2 Lesson, then start 6.1 Day 1, complete the section, and start back at 6.1 Day 2 Practice. 24

To move a student to a new Temporary path immediately, select the student from the dashboard and click Move to Next. 25

Students will appear differently once the move has successfully been made. Change Student s Active Path This allows you to move students around in any group they belong to. For example, if you have a group for after school students, you d be able to move a student there by selecting the group from the drop down menu and clicking Assign. Just like how the Assign Activity function works, the student will complete their current activity before moving on to the newly assigned path. To move the student immediately, use the Move to Next feature previously described. 26

Manage Tab Edit Default Settings This is the page you first saw when setting up your classroom. You can edit those settings again from here. 27

Review Extended Response Questions Rate the answer using the stars on the right (you can view the scoring rubric using the "View Word Problem Scoring Rubric" button at the top right of the page). Click "Mark Reviewed" when you've given your rating. The student will receive coins based on your rating and the question will then move to the "Reviewed" section at the bottom of the page. 28

Usage Report This report allows users to view a graph of the time students have spent using Wowzers. View Scores Here, reports are viewable by section, pre and post assessment, and individual student scores. All reports are printable by PDF. Clicking on the blue link allows you to view the assessment. 29

Classroom Scores 30

Student Scores Edit Name/Archive This allows you to change the name of a classroom. You can also archive the classroom, which deletes it from view and frees up licenses if students are no longer using Wowzers. 31

Standards Tab Teachers and administrators can use the Classroom Standards Report to see how many students have encountered each standard and how they performed on questions related to those standards. You can also sort through the data using the symbols. You can also print a classroom report. 32

Standards CSV Report To view the report, open the csv file using a spreadsheet application (i.e. Microsoft Excel). Data is determined by practice and quiz questions. For each student who has completed any material for a given set of standards and grade level: The "Completion" column shows how many questions the student has answered out of how many questions total for the entire curriculum. The "Average Score" column shows their average score across all standards. For each standard, the score indicates how many questions have been answered correctly out of how many answered so far, thus giving an indication of how the student is performing on that standard. Classroom averages for each column are listed at the bottom. Only students who have completed some material are included in these averages 33

You can click on a number to identify the students in that category. You can also choose to create a group based on the data provided. 34

Group Tab If you want to make a Group that includes students from several of your Classrooms, start by switching to the Groups dashboard instead of the Classroom Dashboard. Please note you must create a classroom before creating a group. Next, you can click the plus sign in the corner of the Groups column. This will take you to a new page where you can search for students and add them to a new Group. 35

1) Be sure to give your Group an identifiable name. 2) You can use the search bar to find students by name. 3) Click on a student's name to add them to the Group on the right. Click a student in the Group on the right to remove them from the Group. (For Admins: You can use the same process to add teachers who you want to be able to administer the Group) 4) The "Assign Path to Students" checkbox will set this Group's Path as the students' Active Path. 5) Click the "Create Custom Group" button when you're ready to save your work and create the Group. 6) You can then choose the content for your Group's Path as previously described. Add or Remove Students Switch to the Groups view on the Dashboard and bring up the Group you would like to change. Then click the "Manage" tab and select Manage Group. 36

This will bring you to the "Edit Custom Group" page where you can update the Group. Moving students between Paths When a student is added to Group, you have the option to have the student play the Group Path or their Classroom Path. You can switch the student back and forth if you need to, and the student's place in each Path will be saved. There are two different ways to move students between Paths. Play Button 1) On each Classroom or Group page, there is a play button in the top right corner. Clicking the Play button will move all the students listed on that Classroom or Group Page to that Classroom or Group Path. 37

2) There are also smaller play buttons next to individual students. Pressing one of those allows you to move just that student to the Path of the Classroom or Group you are viewing. (These only appear by students who are not already on that Path.) Active Path Setting You can move students between Paths by changing a student's Active Path setting. Click on the student's name to get to their profile page. When a student is a part of one or more Groups, a drop down menu will appear on their profile page. Select the Group or Classroom Path you would like the student to play. Then click the "Assign" button. The student will move to that Path after they finish their current activity. If you would like them to move immediately, use the "Move to Next" feature. 38

Additional Features Limit Access to Students By clicking to the right of the Enabled button off your dashboard, you can suspend access to your students if you do not want them logging into their account from home. Play Button 2) On each Classroom or Group page, there is a play button in the top right corner. Clicking the Play button will move all the students listed on that Classroom or Group Page to that Classroom or Group Path. 39

2) There are also smaller play buttons next to individual students. Pressing one of those allows you to move just that student to the Path of the Classroom or Group you are viewing. (These only appear by students who are not already on that Path.) Adding/Deleting Student If you need to Add a new student, you can simply click on the Class Roster Tab, scroll to the bottom of the page, and then click on the plus (t) sign on the left hand side. Enter the student s first name, last name, password (if you want to enter a specific password, remember that it needs to be at least six characters long) and leave the username as CREATE FOR ME. 40

To Delete a student, click on the student, click edit/delete, click delete student(s). Please refer to the Student Profile information described previously. Previewing Curriculum/Supplemental Materials Every Wowzers Teacher or Administrator login gets access to the entire K 8 Wowzers Content. To view this, click on your name, click on curriculum, then select your grade level. From here, you can change the set of standards used, preview the content and play as if a student, and pull additional offline resources to support you in using Wowzers. 41

Middle School Supplemental Materials Middle school supplemental materials include blended learning activities and performance tasks. 42

You can preview content by clicking on the eyeball next to each activity, or by clicking on Go To Activity Previewer. 43

Adding Users to your Account School Administrator logins have access to invite/add teachers. To do this, simply click on your name, click staff/classes, and click the plus (t) sign to add a teacher. Enter an email address, and they will receive an email inviting them to join Wowzers. 44

Dashboard Screen This is your home screen upon logging into your account. There are various functions available on this page. 45

Activity Definitions The following sequence of Activities primarily describes the elementary school curriculum, grades 3 5. For information on how grades differ, see below. Each Day of content is broken up into different Activities. Each Activity has a specific function. 1. Tryout The Tryout is a short series of questions designed to determine if a student has already mastered the Day's concept. If you so choose, you can have our adaptive engine skip the student further along if they get every question correct in the Tryout. This is a good way to get each student to their appropriate content level quickly. You can change this setting at any time by selecting the student or students on the dashboard and using the "Student Settings" tab that becomes available at the top of the page. 2. Lesson The Lesson is the main instruction for the Day's Concept. It's an interactive presentation that explains and demonstrates the concept with the help of participation from the student. The student will get adaptive feedback based on their responses that guide them toward the right answer. 3. Practice This is a series of questions designed to give the student more experience with the content from the the Lesson, as well as measure how well they understood the concept. Adaptive feedback is given for incorrect answers. The student can get three incorrect answers (also known as strikeouts) before the student is moved to the next question. a. Remediation If you choose, you can set Wowzers to automatically intervene with a Remediation if the student scores below 70% on the Practice. The Remediation is a video lesson that teaches the concept in a different way that might be more helpful to lower performing students. Upon finishing the Remediation, the student will automatically be given more Practice questions to determine if the Remediation helped. 4. Game The Game is a more traditional "video game" for the students to play. It offers an opportunity for the student to use the math concept in a fun setting. The game format 46

also pushes students to master the content by incentivizing speed and accuracy of answers with points and coins. 5. Quest The Quest is an interactive platforming adventure that puts the day s lesson into context for students. The Quest couples the lesson of the Day with a real world adventure which helps answer the question, When will I use this in the real world? for students and makes the lesson less abstract. Each quest includes information about a career and how math is used in that career. 6. Quiz The Quiz is the main assessment for each Day. It is designed to mirror the types of standardized test question that students will see from PARCC or Smarter Balanced. This is the primary method to see how well the student understands each concept. The quiz scores will appear on the Dashboard. You can click on each score to see more details. 7. Free Time At the end of each Day of content, the student has a prescribed amount of Free Time where they can use their avatar to shop in the Wowzers Mall. They use the coins they accumulate from playing Activities to buy clothing and accessories for their avatar and decorations for their BuzzPod (their in game vehicle/home). You can change this amount of Free Time given to students by selecting the student or students on the dashboard and using the "Student Settings" tab that becomes available at the top of the page. 8. Section Quiz The last day of each Section includes an assessment that covers all of the content that has been taught in the Section. This assessment determines if the student has mastered the standards based content for the Section. 47

Grade Differences Grades K 2 *Complete Curriculum coming 16/17SY Grades K 2 contain simple story based practice activities designed to supplement your in class instruction. Students play as Kelpie, a charming and mysterious flying seahorse. Grades 3 5 Each day of content in Grade 3 5 includes instruction, reinforcement, and assessment. The activities for each day include a Tryout, Lesson, Practice, Game, Quest, and Quiz. In Quests, students play as their own personal avatar which they create the first time they log in. They can customize their avatar during Free Time after each day's Quiz. Grade 6 8 Our middle school content engages students in learning through a story driven and problem solving approach. The Tryout, Lesson, Practice, and Assessment are presented within the context of a story, and are supplemented by games throughout the day. In our middle school content we take the philosophy behind the Quest activity and apply it throughout the other activities as well. This also means that there is no separate Game, and in some cases, no separate Quest. We believe this offers a more seamless and engaging experience for the student. Activities in Each Day of Content Grade K 2: Practice Grade 3 5: Tryout > Lesson > Practice > Game > Quest > Assessment > Free Time Grade 6 8 : Tryout > Lesson > Practice > Quest* > Assessment > Free Time 48

Student Report Card/Dashboard The student dashboard is a feature that allows students to see their own progress and performance. Students can access it during Free Time by pressing the folder button on the right edge of their screen. Report Card The report card page shows the student's scores on the end of section assessments. The scores are listed in the order the quizzes were completed, with the most recent on the top. 49

Note: The report card does not show the grade level of the content the student has played. Many teachers who use Wowzers for RTI prefer that students not know when they are playing content from a lower grade. Avatar/Pod Options This motivates students to earn more coins so they can complete their collections. The student dashboard also shows students the number of avatar options and pod decorations they've purchased from each category, encouraging them to complete their collection. 50
