FOREWORD To plan and carry out the academic activities in a meaningful way, an academic calendar is utmost need for any academic Institution. It is my pleasure to present the academic Calendar for Higher Secondary course holders for the academic session 2017-18. The +2 stage courses under AHSEC are imparted by Degree Colleges, Junior Colleges as well as Higher Secondary Schools in the State of Assam. While conducting Classes, the Colleges follow the holiday list and academic time schedule as specified by their respective Universities. The High Schools upgraded to Higher Secondary Schools follow the schedule as prescribed by SEBA. This creates confusion among the teachers and the students of Higher Secondary stage as regards the academic schedule and the actual teaching days required for the course. Contemplating uniformity in the academic activities in the HS Schools and Colleges imparting HS Courses as well as with an endeavour to increase the number of teaching days, Council has proposed this Academic Calendar for the session 2017-18. It is expected that institutions imparting HS School Courses under the academic control of AHSEC will follow the activities as per this calendar in true sense of the term. Giving emphasis on the need base curriculum, it is felt that Road Safety and Disaster Management are very needful for every citizen of the world. So these two chapters are included in the revised text book of Environmental Education in 2016 and it has been implemented since 2016-17 academic session under AHSEC. The book Environmental Education has been published in three versions Assamese, English and Bengali. AHSEC has also revised the text book of Assamese (MIL) for HS 2 nd year i.e. SAHITYA SOURAV and it is being inplemented since 2016-17 onwards. This year, AHSEC has revised the text book of Assamese (MIL) for H.S. 1 st year, named by SAHITYA SOURAV to upgrade the syllabus in recent time and it will be implemented from the academic session 2017-18. It is hoped that the Heads of the institutions will follow the Academic Calendar to implement various academic activities following tests, examinations, special activities including Observance Days etc. for better future. The AHSEC acknowledge with thanks the suggestions put forwarded by various organisations, members of various philanthropic committee including persons of status. Dr. Dayananda Borgohain (Ph.D) Chairman, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council Bamunimaidam, Guwahati-781021 iii

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS The Department of Education, Government of Assam has developed a uniform Academic Calendar for Class XI to XII and has directed to implement the same in all Schools of Assam. All the periods for Higher Secondary Classes will invariably be of not less than 45 minutes duration in all the institutions. It is to be maintained strictly. 9. Dates of Holidays may change if any order is issued by Govt. from time to time. 10. The Unit Tests shall be conducted as per schedule mentioned in the academic Calendar. The records of such tests be analyzed immediately after completion of each test and be taken necessary remedial measures for academic improvement of the students. 11. The AHSEC will issue necessary instructions from time to time regarding holding of H.S. Examination, submission of registration forms, examination forms etc. It is expected that the Head of the Institutions will take necessary steps for proper implementation of this Academic Calendar for achieving desired level of academic improvement of the students in general and institutions in particular. 12. At the beginning of the academic session it is imperative to discuss the syllabus and textbook for deriving the skills/competencies envisaged in the curriculum and syllabus. 13. The Academic Calendar must be followed by the concerned Institutions for maintaining healthy atmosphere. The defaulting Institutions shall be deal seriously as per rules of AHSEC. 14. Any suggestion for improvement of academic activities at +2 stage is highly solicited for designing future course of action. (Sri Simanta Kr.
