OTHER RELEVANT EXPERIENCE Boulder County Community Hospital, Boulder, CO, LEED Certified (Medical) Boulder Community Hospital s Foothills campus is a facility designed to accommodate the needs of Boulder County s women and children. It provides services to women and children such as labor and delivery, neo-natal intensive care and pediatrics. The facility also houses an emergency room, a surgery department and a full imaging department. Attached to the hospital is an outpatient services building housing physician offices and a lab. The site and building are designed to allow for future expansion with a build out of approximately 425,000 sf. Rio Tinto Minerals Corporate Headquarters, Greenwood Village, CO, LEED Silver (Research) Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM) is the world s largest producer of salt, boron and talc. In 2007 RTM selected Greenwood Village, Colorado as the location for their new corporate headquarters, merging the existing subsidiaries of US Borax (Valencia, CA) and Luzenac America (Centennial, CO). OZ was hired to design the new facility utilizing elements of the RTM Global Workplace Standards to create a new corporate identity for RTM. Acacia Fraternity, Boulder, CO (Housing) This project involves the re-development of two adjacent parcels at 17th and Broadway, directly across from the University of Colorado Boulder campus. The site is currently occupied by former fraternity houses that are now functioning as rental apartment buildings. Proposed are two three-story buildings with 39 for-rent apartments that will be marketed exclusively to CU students. Confluence, Community College of Denver, Denver, CO (Academic) The Community College of Denver seeks to build a new $43 million 85,000 SF student services building on the Auraria campus. This building will house classrooms, faculty offices, and a student services one stop. The building will create a new identity for the college, and will be a central part of the student experience. The building is currently under construction. Via, Mobility for Life (Formerly Boulder Special Transit), Boulder, CO (Facilities Maintenance) Special Transit is a private non-profit agency located in Boulder, Colorado that provides an efficient, cost-effective and accessible transportation system for seniors and people with disabilities residing in Boulder and Boulder County. Their mission is to promote independence and self-sufficiency for people with limited mobility by providing caring, customer-focused transportation options. Colorado Community College System Headquarters, Aurora, CO (Office Space) Colorado Community Colleges staged an invited design competition among Denver architecture firms for CCC s new headquarters at Lowry. OZ is the project architect for the complete renovation of existing Lowry buildings for CCC administrative headquarters, three parking lots, conference facilities, and a new statewide data center for CCC central computer operations. Manhattan Middle School, Boulder Valley School District, Boulder, CO (Performance Areas) Manhattan Middle School of Arts and Academics was born out of the merger of the existing Burbank Middle School and the relocated School of the Arts program. The merge created a unique opportunity for a new image and identity to go along with the school s exciting new programs. The result was two additions and an extensive remodel. Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, Denver, CO (Library) In 2001, Mayor Wellington Webb decided to build a project as his legacy to the City of Denver. A new Denver Public Library branch located in the historic heart of Denver s African-American community, Five Points, would honor the history of African-Americans in the Rocky Mountain West. 9

UNIVERSITY CENTER SECOND FLOOR REMODEL AND CLYDE S PATIO EXPANSION University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado The recently completed renovations to the Overlook dining area in the UCCS University Center have brought new life to the facility. We targeted creative building modifications and finish upgrades to improve function and enhance the student experience. In addition to the improvements to the Overlook, the courtyard at Clyde s was improved with an outdoor dining area complete with fire pit and trellis. Renovations to Berger Hall were also undertaken to create a flexible space that can stage a variety of event types, ranging from weddings to student laser tag. AREA 7,750 sf 11

ADAM PRESS SPORTS CENTER THE COLORADO COLLEGE Colorado Springs, Colorado Originally built in 1970, Adam Press Sports Center was challenged both in access and facilities, and served Varsity Athletics with little or no accommodation for the general student population seeking wellness and fitness. OZ worked closely with the Athletic Department, and the Design Build contractor on this fast-track, three-phased construction project. Phase one included a 12,000 sf three-story administrative addition providing offices and conference room space for the Athletic Department. Phase two: a renovation to 75,000 sf of the existing athletic facility including locker rooms, climbing wall, LAX practice area, weight room, multiple gymnasiums, a completely new plumbing system including fixtures, and an upgrade to their mechanical and electrical system. The final phase included a 33,000 sf two-story fitness addition that wraps around the college s primary athletic field and houses new saunas, weight training, aerobics, yoga and locker rooms. AREA Administrative addition - 75,000 sf Renovation - 12,000 sf Fitness addition - 33,000 sf 12

ROCKY VISTA UNIVERSITY Parker, Colorado Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine is a state-of-the-art medical school. The intent was to create a new university campus in a village-like collection of connected buildings surrounding lush courtyards and pathways. It was fundamentally important that the common areas engage the outdoors, both visually and functionally. Classroom and lecture halls were designed to incorporate the latest medical education practices and theories. State-ofthe-art audio-visual equipment and technology was installed to maximize learning capacity. In addition, wireless capacity exists throughout the entire facility with multiple work/study areas. AREA 150,000 sf - Phase I 13

FRONT RANGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE LARIMER CAMPUS Fort Collins, Colorado At Front Range Community College s Larimer Campus, we were engaged to update their master plan, based on changing factors including available funding, and to improve it to address their need to maintain operations throughout the multi-phase development. We worked with a variety of user groups to understand the true space needs of the various departments affected, and evaluated their current location in the multiple buildings on that campus. With this information, we explored options to relocate them on campus with the intent of consolidating related departments to build better synergy and collaboration between them. We also looked for optimal features in each of the existing facilities that could benefit the departments. For example, the large doors and windows in the current auto shop could be used to provide ample daylighting into an art studio classroom. We also explored future buildings and expansions to existing buildings on the campus. The primary goal was to improve the student experience on campus, so issues such as student wayfinding and improved access to faculty were considered in addition to departmental collaboration. Once the ideal campus locations were agreed upon, we worked to develop a phasing plan to allow revisions to occur on campus without compromising the academic offerings during the construction sequencing, or having to move departments multiple times. 1

UNIVERSITY CENTER SECOND FLOOR REMODEL & CLYDE S PATIO EXPANSION University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado OZ ccollaborated with UCCS on their $1.3 million renovation and remodel of the University Center Second Floor and also an expansion of Clyde s patio. The recently completed renovations to the Overlook dining area in the UCCS University Center have brought new life to the facility. AREA 7,750 sf 2

The space will feature climate-controlled exhibition and storage spaces, permanent and changing exhibition galleries, a visual resources center and slide library, a 200-seat auditorium for lectures and symposia, a collection study center and an educational workshop. ALFERD PACKER RESTAURANT AND GRILL University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado A true campus crossroads, the Alferd Packer Grill in CU s University Memorial Center serves many students, staff and faculty daily. The facility s remodel improves food service function, opens up the circulation flow and enhances the student dining experience. Incorporating sustainable principles to improve operation costs and energy efficiency, the Grill also utilizes recycled materials throughout to reflect CU s commitment to environmental stewardship. The Grill is student-run and self-funded, so student input was vital to the renovation s success. AREA 21,180 sf 4

PUEBLO COMMUNITY COLLEGE CENTER EXPANSION Pueblo, Colorado For this major remodel and expansion, students requested a central place that would enhance all aspects of wellbeing involved in student life: intellectual, social, and recreational. The expansion is designed as a dynamic experience and a central feature of campus life, providing areas for a variety of activities ranging from quiet study to fitness. The exterior design harmonizes with surrounding campus architecture, and the interior design utilizes natural materials, strong colors, and bright daylighting to set this space apart. AREA 62,237 sf 5

BEAR CREEK APARTMENTS AT WILLIAMS VILLAGE BUILDINGS F&G University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado A precedent-setting project for CU, Bear Creek Apartments provides housing for 1,000 students at Williams Village, a satellite housing cluster close to the main campus. Site planning and building design focus on creating a sense of community for students, adapting the best of the main campus residential areas. Designed to complement the predominant Tuscan vernacular style of the main campus, Bear Creek both connects its residents to the larger campus and serves as an impressive gateway to the city of Boulder. AREA 200,000 sf 6

AL C. YATES HALL - CHEMISTRY & BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES INSTRUCTIONAL LABS Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado This facility houses undergraduate instructional laboratories for the Chemistry, Biology and Biochemistry departments at Colorado State University. It includes four floors of laboratory space, break-out recitation/classroom areas, and a 250-seat auditorium/lecture hall.
