Project 2007 and 2003, Access2007 and 2003, QuickBooks 2005 MS Office: Essentials for Beginners and Xtra: Charts and Smart Art Mac OSX Tiger and Snow Leopard, Mac Word 2004 Windows 7 and Windows XP Computer Basics Accessing the courseware Use the Online IT Training icon on the desktop OR Go directly to the following web address: www.salford.ac.uk/library/online-training Both will take you the online Training website. Follow the login instructions. Using the online training materials Wherever you see an orange question, hover for further help. All of the courses you have access to are listed under My Courses on the left. Click on the course you are interested in. 1
Chapters: the online materials are divided into chapters to make them easier to manage. Click on a chapter on the left to see a list of the individual Topics on the right under Program Fundamentals. To begin, click on the Not Started link under Pre Assess, Tutorial or Post Assess. Tutorial: takes you to the Lessons which are short interactive clips that focus on one particular feature. The lessons start with a screen telling you what you will learn. Lessons have sound and captions and will ask you to actively participate. Ref: you can open a printable reference document (in PDF format) for each lesson. Search Lessons: if you are looking for information on a particular feature you can use the search box on the right hand side. Assessments If you are following the materials through from start to finish, assessments will help you identify which lessons are relevant. If you are unsure whether you already know how to use a particular feature you can take a short Pre assessment first. If you pass the Pre assessment you will know the 2
information in the lesson. To confirm your understanding of the lesson you can take the Post Assessment. Some assessments consist of a series of multiple choice questions, while others such as the example below simulate the software and will ask you to carry out a particular task. Using Lessons Lessons are short and focus on a particular feature. To watch a lesson click on the Not Taken link under Tutorial. On the next screen click on Proceed to Lesson. 3
The text that you see on the left hand side will also be read out but you can toggle the voice on and off. Options Click on Options. From here you can turn the narration, sound effects and Action Arrow on and off. The Action Arrow is the red arrow which points you to the right spot when interaction is required. You can turn Presentation Mode on, which lets the lesson run through without requiring any interaction. You can also use the Delay Adjustment to speed up or slow down the lesson. Help Click on Help to open a box with further information about individual features. Reference Opens a User Guide for the lesson in PDF format which you can print off. 4
Text Help Text help is available in the left section of the window and is coded as follows Underlined text Gives further detail on Glossary terms. Click on the term for more information. Provides text that emphasises the current action or step. Provides text that emphasises the object that requires action. Provides text that emphasises a text phase is to be typed. Navigation Buttons Click the Next button to go to the next page. Click the Back button to go back to the previous page. Click Help to display the Help dialogue box. Click Exit to close the session and return to the lesson menu. At the end of a lesson you have the option to repeat the lesson or exit the lesson. Certificate Once you have completed an entire course online, the certificate link will appear. Click on the link to print your own certificate. 5
Reports You can track your progress in all of the online training courses by clicking on the Home tab and then Reports. You also have an option to export your reports data to Excel.
