Call for Volunteers Short-term EVS Volunteering for Acceptance and Diversity About CID Center for Intercultural Dialogue (CID) is a civil society organization working to promote intercultural acceptance and active citizenship through capacity building processes, education and youth work. The organization s activity focuses on many aspects which are of interest for young people: from provision of services and information, to research and support for policymaking and networking. You can find more information on the website: www.cid.mk Youth Work provided in MultiКулти Youth Center CID is running the youth support system in Kumanovo known among youth as the Multi Култи Youth Center. The main aim of the youth center is to establish common ground for sustainable multi ethnic cooperation by fostering intercultural learning and communication among children and young people. This is made possible by promoting democratic citizenship and fostering active participation of youth within the main decision making processes of the community. Since the establishment of the first Multi Култи Youth Center in 2010, a neutral platform was created where youth from different ethnic backgrounds follow joint activities.
The youth center is running 7 days a week, with every day programme adjusted to different age groups and workshops offering space for dialogue in the youth center are the establishment of the first multicultural book cafe-library, Arts and Crafts programme, Photography, Leadership, Debate Club, Theater, Online Radio, Recycled Art, Sports and Research, Language classes, etc. CID also runs a set of programmes for new youth workers called the Youth Workers Academy offering well-planned processes for development of competences needed to work in the youth support systems. Apart of this CID runs a programme of detached youth work in Kumanovo. The youth work offered by CID annually gathers over 2000 beneficiaries. You can find more information on our FB fan page: https://www.facebook.com/multikultiyouthcenter/?fref=ts About the project The project Volunteering for Acceptance and Diversity is a short term EVS project that is built around the idea of volunteering service as a main tool in raising awareness of human rights, tolerance and acceptance of diversity as well as promoting inclusion and intercultural learning. The project will focus on the current refugee crisis and develop activities to raise awareness of the communities where the volunteers are hosted about the refugees. It will also aim to promote solidarity and cooperation especially by motivating organizations to engage with the refugees and offer support for them. The main objectives are: - to develop empathy and acceptance of the refugees through local community actions and storytelling - to raise awareness about the refugee crisis and their reasons to migrate - to develop educational activities to be presented in schools about the current refugee situation - to provide support to activists working on safe-passage of young refugees, migrants and asylum seekers - to engage the local community in dialogue with the young refugees, migrants and asylum seekers Hosting volunteers in Kumanovo, Macedonia where we would need volunteers from: Finland, Turkey, Hungary and Slovakia. These are the following period where you can apply from your country:
- 1 st period: 1 st October 31 st December 2016-1 volunteer per country (eligible countries Hungary, Turkey and Finland) - Deadline for applying: 22 th of August 2016-2 nd period: 1 st March 31 st May 2017-1 volunteer per country (eligible countries Hungary, Slovakia and Finland) - Deadline for applying: 12 th of December 2016-3 rd period: 1 st June 31 st August 2017-1 volunteer per country (eligible countries Turkey, Slovakia and Finland) - Deadline for applying: 13 th of March 2017 The volunteers will have the chance to work on their personal and professional improvement, developing their communication, entrepreneurship and initiative skills. Voluntary service description The volunteers will be working with local youth workers and youth leaders to implement different types of actions and initiatives in the local community on the topic of migration. They will try to promote acceptance and tolerance of diversity through several educational activities, among which are public photo exhibitions, cultural presentations, open debates, blogs, educational workshops, flash mobs, charity events, living libraries, movie projections, etc. Orientation Training and Preparation: This will be an introduction to the local community, culture and environment, focused on getting to know local reality and inhabitants relation. In addition to that the EVS volunteers will be invited to participate on workshops that focus on working with marginalized youth, so as to prepare and learn how to approach and work with the target group. Preparatory Workshops: This part will include meeting with the MultiКулти staff and youth workers to plan the activities that volunteers will deliver within the local community. The EVS volunteers will conduct joint workshops with the local youth workers, in the form of open workshops in the local youth coming from marginalized groups, or in public outdoor areas. Evaluation and Learning: Evaluation of the workshops and discussion of the learning aspects of EVS volunteers and what they can apply once they go back in their local communities. General tasks that every volunteer would be asked to do are the following:
1. At the Office: Volunteers would have to help out with logistics during events in the organization (sorting out materials, transporting them from CID to the event and back, etc.), work on the website (updating it with new info, maintaining it, etc.), design promotional materials, leaflets, logos, posters, etc., archive documents, assist the staff during ongoing activities, etc. 2. At the Youth Center: Volunteers would act as assistants of the coordinator of the youth center and would have to be prepared and willing to work with youngsters age 5+, which also includes some logistics, acting as support for organizing events and workshops, organizing workshops, movie nights, flashmobs, open debates and events themselves, etc. The volunteer will be offered a space to implement and run their own activities with the youngsters, and are strongly encouraged to have activities and workshops on the topic of raising awareness of the current refugee crisis, tolerance and acceptance. Creativity and self-initiative are highly appreciated. Profile of Participants The project will specifically motivate the volunteers to engage themselves in learning and increase their spirit for initiative and participation. General conditions for participation: - Aged between 18 and 30 - Good communicational/social skills - Good social media knowledge and interests in social media development - Open to learn and being (self)motivated - Responsibility, flexibility and proactive attitude are very appreciated - Creativity and experience in working with youth/children is encouraged - Able to work independently in English language (Upper-Intermediate or more) - Be resident in one of the following countries: Slovakia, Hungary, Finland and Turkey - Full presence on the EVS Service Priority should be given to: refugees, youth facing cultural differences and discrimination, youth with limited social skills, unemployed youth, youth from rural areas, youth from orphanages, youth with educational and socio-economic difficulties Housing and board
Volunteers will be accommodated in a rented apartment in Kumanovo with sharing bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and other facilities. The accommodation will be at a walking distance from the office and the youth center, so there would be no need for a public transport. Financial details: All volunteers will receive 9000 MKD per month for food and for individual expenses. Travel cost and reimbursement 100% of travel costs will be reimbursed only for the cheapest way of transport. Only participants who fully attend the voluntary service will be reimbursed. Additional information about reimbursement procedures will be provided to the selected applicants. The participants should use the cheapest way of transport (Bus, Train, planeeconomic class). Please note that there are cheaper flights to Sofia, Bulgaria, Belgrade, Serbia, Thessaloniki, Greece, from where you can get a bus/train to Kumanovo, Macedonia. Participants will be selected on the basis of their applications and ensuring a balance in terms of gender, organizational participation and cultural background.
