Additinal Descriptin: PHGY230 is the secnd half f a tw semester, intrductry human anatmy and physilgy curse that is rganized parallel t the majr rgan systems f the human and fllws the sequence f the text, Anatmy and Physilgy, 6 th ed. by Marieb and Hehn. The curse cntains in depth labratry explratin f each cvered rgan system. PHGY230 is fr students entering health prfessin fields r prgrams f study in which a twsemester (eight semester credits) Anatmy and Physilgy with lab curse is required and fr thse desiring further bilgical sciences study fcused n the human bdy. Develpmental bilgy, histlgy, pathlgy and clinical applicatins/crrelatins will be included when apprpriate. Specific tpics addressed include nutritin and metablism, fluid, electrlyte and acid base hmestasis as well as endcrine, cardivascular, lymphatic, immune, respiratry, digestive, urinary and reprductive systems. Independent and grup learning is required in PHGY230. Curse Objectives The bjectives f the curse are as fllws: T explre eukarytic cell structure and functin as a basis fr human anatmy and physilgy T prvide a clear and rganized vehicle fr gaining factual knwledge and learning the fundamental principles f human anatmy and physilgy T present terminlgy widely accepted fr describing the anatmical rganizatin and physilgical prcesses f the human bdy T emphasize the relatinships between frm and functin, the extensive interrelatinships between rgan systems and the mechanisms fr maintaining hmestasis T demnstrate and practice the skills f lgical thinking and applying knwledge t slve prblems Tpic specific bjectives are indicated by blue arrw heads under chapter subheadings in the textbk and are included in the textbk study guides psted n D2L. Student Learning Outcmes The student learning utcmes are as fllws: Identify the cmpnents and functins f the endcrine, cardivascular, respiratry, digestive, urinary and reprductive systems. Apply knwledge f the cmpnents f eukarytic cells and their functins t explain the anatmy and physilgy f the studied rgan systems. Describe the flw f infrmatin within the cell and between cells. Describe the regulatin f cellular activities including cmmunicatin, grwth, divisin, metablism and cellular energy prductin. Describe the tissues cmpnents and functins within each studied rgan and rgan system. Describe the imprtance f hmestasis, its parameters fr the human and the mechanisms used by each f the studied bdy systems t maintain it. Describe hw attempts t maintain hmestasis by individual rgan systems affect the ther rgan systems and prcesses. Identify and describe cmmn pathphysilgy related t the studied rgan systems and its underlying anatmy and physilgy. Demnstrate the crrect use f widely accepted anatmical and physilgical terminlgy. Demnstrate and apply the cncept that anatmical structure and physilgy (functin) are cmplimentary. Apply the abve knwledge t prblem slving situatins. Labs/Lab Quizzes The labs are assigned s that students get practice in researching, analyzing, critical thinking and applicatin f the infrmatin learned in the curse. The labs will demnstrate t bth the instructr and student as t whether r nt the student has a deeper understanding f the infrmatin learned. Several labs will invlve the PhysiEx 9.1 lab manual/sftware. PhysiEx 9.1 is available n the Mastering A&P cmpanin website. All assigned labs are psted in the Drpbx and will be submitted via the Drpbx n yur D2L curse page. Labs will nt be graded but will be need t be cmpleted in rder t take the related lab quiz, thus yur lab grade is earned via the related quiz. Related lab quizzes d nt appear n Quizzes list until the related lab has been cmpleted and submitted via the Drpbx. All labs must be submitted by due date/time fr ne t take the related lab quiz. Late assignments are NOT accepted which means that a student wh des nt submit lab by due date/time will nt be allwed t take the related lab quiz thus lsing thse available pints. Lab quizzes are assigned fr each lab assigned and are used t evaluate yur understanding f the related lab.
