Panneer took em to Kolkata e 'City of Joy'. Our physioerapist, Mr. Murari Pramanik, also joined em as he is well versed wi Bengali and is well acquainted wi every nook and corner of Kolkata. They enjoyed emselves oroughly sightseeing and gobbling down pizzas to eir hearts' content. I feel anoer chapter has been added to eir memory files and one more feaer in e cap of Fr. Panneer. He left no stone unturned to provide loads of TLC and perhaps one could conclude at is e reason of Panneer becoming so emotional when e time came to say good bye to em. These days Fr. Panneer is burning e mid night oil in preparing for e next financial year's Budget. On 2 August our Dr. P.S. Balmuchu went to The Leprosy Mission Community Hospital (Diana Princess of Wales Heal Education & Media Center) Naini, Allahabad - UP for e upgrading programme for doctors. He was e only one from Jharkhand State. There were 10 participants who went rough e training programme: how to identify leprosy, how to diagnose it correctly if identified and how to eradicate leprosy in whichever form it might appear in e patients. Today, 22 August, e fif batch of RCS patients was discharged after ree weeks of physioerapy. After a couple of weeks ese people are expected to come back for eir first follow up program. Mr. Murari conducted eir follow up checkups and he is extremely satisfied wi e results! On 23 August Fr. Panneer and Mr. Ramesh, assistant accountant, DFIT, left for Chennai for e Budget Business Meeting. Vijay Kachhap scholastics to write, sing, and compose etc. All e scholastics were inspired to contribute to e E-magazine. You can see e web site www.dnctimes.com for our articles. On 7 August we had a special prayer service in commemoration of 200 Years since e Restoration of e Society of Jesus. All e Jesuits of e JDV campus took part in e prayer service. On e 8 August Niral Deogam celebrated his birday which was topped off for an Amul brand mangoflavoured ice cream. Independence Day was celebrated wi gusto. The Theologians had eir first midsemester exams from 18 23 August. On 23 we had a fellowship meal in e company of Frs. Abe, Swami and Joseph Xavier (on vacation from Rome). A Rain Picnic by Living Groups to Lonavala towards e end of is mon gave some respite for doing someing different for a change. The deacons are preparing emselves for eir upcoming comprehensive exam. Apart from all ese, our time table announces forcoming events such as recollections, study group discussions, various ministries, etc. Prabhakar Oddipalli came to our community and stayed wi us for a couple of days. In spite of his busy schedule, Saby was kind enough to address our children. Thank you, Saby, for your generosity! On 8 and 9, Victor along wi Saby went to Bokaro for e ISCE/ISC Principals' Meeting. Once again on 13 we went to e Jesuit Community, Digwadih, for e birday celebration of Fr.Amrit Kujur. We c e l e b r a t e d I n d e p e n d e n c e D a y meaningfully. While Bene, our Coordinator and Treasurer, hoisted e Tricolor, Victor, 02 JAMSHEDPUR JESUITS

our Principal, gave e message for e occasion. We began our first semester exams on 13 and wi at e entire campus turned into a silent zone. It will be over on 29. On 23 Frs. Victor and Bene went to Mugma for e monly meeting of DNS Principals. The students and staff of DNS Units showed a true sign of solidarity by contributing for e treatment of a student from DNS CTPS, who is suffering from cancer and is presently George Fernandes e newlyappointed Provincial's visitation was a grace filled and energizing occasion for us. His encouraging words and sign of constant support were contagious. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to one and all for your prayerful support. Our regular guests e students from our premier institute XLRI 8 boys and 7 girls wi eir Coordinator, Fr James Sananam, halted here for eir village exposure programme, The boys stayed at Divya Bharati and e girls at TRTC. Divya Bharati organized a ree-day Catechist Training programme from August 5 evening till 8 afternoon, to update e skills and meods of evangelisation. Eight catechists from different parishes in Chaibasa Deanery participated in e training program. The emes for different days of e training program revolved round e main em: The Storm of Modernization and Wi-Fi on e Faiful. Niranjan SJ briefly explained e mission and role of e family based on e letter of Pope John Paul II titled The Christian Families in e Modern World On 31 July, St. Ignatius was brought live to us by our Sisters, teachers and children rough a meaningful Eucharistic Celebration followed by cultural programs. On 2 August Fr. Alex went to Ranchi to e PF office to collect information as per e notice received pertaining to a PF problem created in e past. And again on 8 August Fr. Alex attended e hearing in e presence of e state PF Commissioner and clarified e issue at we are e new management wi new employees who would like to deposit our PF money as per e rule. Once again on 9 September Alex will be visiting e PF Office for e final judgment on how to enrol our employees under e PF Act. The First Terminal Exam began on 4 and ended on 12 August. On 6 Alex left for Calcutta to attend e funeral mass of Fr. Chinnappan of Baraipur Diocese who is also from his native village. On Independence Day, 15 August, our local Mukia Jagana Mahto was e Chief- Guest for e flag hoisting ceremony and took e salute at e march-past. Victor, our Director, appreciated and anked one and all for eir generosity. Fr Niranjan was away for e orientation program for e Krusvir Animators in Jamshedpur and Dhanbad and en to Ranchi to give a day of recollection for e moers of Nawatad Parish in preparation for a meaningful celebration of e feast of St Monica. Niranjan also went to give a day of recollection to e Krusvir Children of Khuntpani and a half-day session on motivation to Plus Two students of St Xavier's Girls School, Chaibasa. Niranjan Minj From 9 to 13 August we had a special guest from America Mr. Daniel Pearson, e grand-nephew of John Guidera. In e evening Mr. Daniel, himself a basket-ball coach in a college, enjoyed playing basketball and soccer wi e hostel children. Children were mesmerized by his skills in basketball and his simplicity. During e day Alex took Mr. Daniel and some children who are from e leprosy colonies and visited eir tiny huts and make-shift shelters. People were fascinated by Daniel who is 6 feet 7 inches tall making efforts to stoop down to enter e homes of lepers and meet em. We also ank Fr. Walter Kongari for visiting Gomoh on 13 of is mon and for arranging Daniel's visit to Gomoh. His visits give us direction and guidance towards a better presence in is mission. On e same day we were also surprised by e sudden visit of Fr. Walter Crasta, e VG of e Diocese and Fr. Tobias. On 13 August 23 Japanese students from a Jesuit High School at Rokko accompanied by ACROSS THE BRIDGE Fr Boris D'Santos (CCU), 80/49, passed away on 13 August 2014 in St Xavier's, Kolkata. Fr Piergiorgio Mennini (RAN), 75/53, died on 16 August 2014 in Holy Family Hospital Mandar (Ranchi). Bro. Stephen Soreng, (MAP) 70/49 passed away on 19 August in Holy Cross Hospital, Ambikapur Mrs Beronica Baruwa, moer of Fr Isidore Minj, passed away on 22 August 2014 in Jhunmur, Sundargarh Sr Mary Leonaq, (Ursuline Nun of Ranchi Province) sister of Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J., passed away on Sunday, 31st August 2014 at Lohardaga. Mike visited our school and Fr. Elvius Dungdung from DSWC came as a local guide. They spent a few hours in our c a m p u s a n d d r e w t h e attention of our hostel children b y p e r f o r m i n g s o m e Japanese skills and cultural arts. Later in e evening ey played a friendly foot-ball match in which our children won convincingly. On 2 and 3 August Topchanchi Block level Subroto Roy Cup Football Tournament was conducted in our school p r e m i s e s. S i x d i ff e r e n t schools participated in e boys' category. Bo our teams from e Junior and Seniors sections emerged champions. At e district level our senior foot-ball team Under-17years category became champions but our junior boys Under-14 years gave a good fight in e final against St. Xaviers, Tundi and remained runners-up at e district level. It is e first time in e history of our school at we won two cups in e same tournament on e same day. Congratulations go out to Sch. Alok who has been inspiring and accompanying our team closely. From 24to 27 August, he was in Hazaribag for e next level of e tournament. Good luck, Alok! This year e Deanery Kurusvir Animators Meeting was held in DSWC, Govindpur where Sr. Mukta and Ms. Satya represented our parish and school. They were impressed by Niranjan's charm, creativity, ideas and dynamism. 31 August will be a memorable day for our parishioners as we are getting ready to celebrate e feast of St. Monica and it will also be e official beginning of e fund raising for a Church building. On is day people from oer Churches are also invited to participate in e cultural events and in e mini-mela at is organized by our parish women and you. On 22 August we were shocked by e sudden dea of Sr. Cicily, SCN, a dynamic Sister who visited Gomoh on 2 and 3 August. A Alex Fr.Kurian Emphrail S. A Recollection talk by Benjamin Lakra and a reeday prayer service to St. I g n a t i u s p r e p a r e d t h e candidates spiritually for e feast. After e spiritual activities it was e time to From 30 July to 7 August we had special Novena Prayer to commemorate e 200 Anniversary of e Restoration of e Society of Jesus. I n collaboration wi e agriculture department, an in-field demonstration training was organized for e farmers of Subarnagiri GP. It is wor-mentioning at one village called Madapaju which refrained from line meod cultivation for e last five years, has now happily adopted is meod due to its high yielding capacity. A short skit on Ignatius wi e message of Finding God in All Things for e Greater Glory of God was enacted by e college students. On e eve of Founder's Day e students appeared for a Quiz Competition on St. Ignatius. It was fun as well as it gave em an insight into Ignatius's life and work. The 68 Independence Day was celebrated on e school ground for e children and at e porch of e college for e students. Fr. Hillary Lobo unfurled e Tricolour while oers sang e National Anem. It was followed by two speeches, patriotic songs and a fantastic dance. The Chief Guest for e school function was Mr. Ronny D Costa who highlighted e importance of keeping e environment clean and free of pollution. He encouraged e kids to strive hard in making Xavier School e best in India. Today special efforts are made to keep e school premises neat and clean. School news: On 11 August, Fr. Kuruvilla's birday was celebrated in a fitting manner at e school hall. The students put up a scintillating programme on e newly built stage which is equipped wi an LCD projector. During e mon of August several competitions were successfully conducted in e school. The most important one was organized by e GK and Art- Craft Clubs on 9 August. Altogeer eight schools came from Jamshedpur to participate in is mega event. The staff and e students of Xavier School did an excellent job on is day. Most of e parents came to collect e report cards of e children, which was distributed on 16 August. The process for e affiliation of Xavier School wi ICSE board has begun. College News: This year altogeer 145 candidates appeared for e admission interview and 90 of em took admission for e BBA, B.Com and BCA courses. A Cleaning Drive was proposed, planned and executed by Fr. Staney, e Administrator and Treasurer of e College, involving all e students in clearing e surrounding. A Samsung You Carnival was conducted by e Storm Communications Ltd. wherein e students participated and showcased eir singing, dancing and oer talents rough creative games. As directed by e DSW, Kolhan University, Chaibasa, e college celebrated e 6 Foundation Day of Kolhan University on 13 August. A Power Point Presentation was done by e ird year students. They too had patriotic songs and speech competition on Education and Kolhan University. The next day e ere was a report appeared in e vernacular press. This year too our BCA students went to Karim City College for eir Physics Practical Exam in August and e University allowed e college to have e Home Centre for e Computer Practical Exams wi e freedom of appointing e External Examiners for e exams. By God's providence, just two days before e commencement of e University Exams, we got e Affiliation Letter from HRD, Ranchi for e 2013-16 batch of students. Thus, e First Years, could appear for eir University Exams from 6 August. This year again we had 100% results. Out of 27 BBA Third Year Students, 24 got First Class and 3 Second Class. The topper of e college Ms Moumita Mohapatra got admission into Xavier Institute of Management, Bangalore and four oers joined Xavier Institute of Management, Jabalpur. Two got into M.Com in St. Xavier's, Kolkata and five have joined coaching centres in Ranchi for banking jobs. We are fortunate to have two here for XAT coaching centre at XITE. On 2 August, e University Inspection Team of four came for e inspection of e college in response to our application for e affiliation of 2014-17 batch of students. T h e y a p p r e c i a t e d t h e infrastructural as well as oer facilities available for e courses. However, ey did mention a few points where we need to improve and put our house in order to avail affiliations in e years to come. C Gautam The Board Meeting and AGM of XLRI was held on 9 August in Kolkata. The Board appointed Mr T V Narendran, Managing Director of Tata Steel, as e next Chairman of e Board of Governors. He succeeded Mr. H M Nerurkar, who was e Former MD of Tata Steel and was Chairman of XLRI for almost four years. The Board anked him for his contribution and guidance. Fr. Jerry Cutinha was inducted as a member in e Board of Governors of XLRI. Fr. Abe went to Dubai and inaugurated e commencement of e new batch of students for Executive MBA. S George went to Hosur to conduct a training program for e Executives of Ashok Leyland. Fr. Peter Francis was in Dubai teaching a course in Communication. Fr. Ozzie Mascarenhas went to Mangalore to teach at St Aloysius Institute of Management & Technology as well as participate in e one-day Eics Seminar organized by e Alumni at Bangalore. Frs. Peter Francis, Alwyn Rodrigues, Jerry Cutinha S George and Ozzie continued to visit different communities of e Province to help wi e preparation of e Province Assembly. Fr. James Sananam accompanied our students in variously weekly trips to villages as part of e Rural Immersion Program. Fr.
