Ms. Neset made a motion to approve the December 9, 2015 search committee minutes. Mr. Osborne seconded the motion. Neset, Hacker, Kubatova, Osborne, Morgan, Nelson, Neuerburg, Kopp, Perrin, Poolman, El Rewini, and Shaft voted aye. The motion carried. Co chairs reviewed the process that the committee followed. Committee members were asked to review all applications based on the 14 preference attributes listed in the advertisement. Committee members were asked to prepare a list of applicants they believed should move forward for further consideration by the committee. One suggested way to come up with their short list was to include those applicants who met 11 or more of the preference attributes listed in the advertisement. However, they could have included an applicant 1 P age
3 who did not meet 11 or more of the preference attributes if they felt strongly that the applicant deserved to be considered. Committee members submitted their list to AGB by 5 p.m. CST, January 17, 2016. AGB compiled a list of all names submitted by committee members for discussion during the meeting on January 20, 2016. For best consideration, applications were to be received by January 4, 2016. There were four applications received after that date Dr. Timothy J. Greene, Dr. Mary Pat Wohlford, Dr. Allen Lee Sessoms, and Dr. Morgan R. Olsen. The committee at their Dec. 9, 2015 meeting, agreed that they would have to determine if these applications will be considered. Mr. Poolman made a motion to accept the above four applications, Ms. Nelson seconded the motion. Hacker, Kubatova, Osborne, Morgan, Nelson, Neuerburg, Kopp, Perrin, Poolman, Neset, Shaft and El Rewini voted aye. The motion carried. Ms. Fitzgerald provided a brief report on outreach for the position to the committee, which is provided below. As supported by the University of rth Dakota presidential search committee, a communication plan was undertaken that addressed three primary areas of action. The first area guided a print and electronic posting of the position advertisement. The committee approved advertisement was placed on vember 13, 2015, the date of the launch of the search. The advertisement was on the sites for The Chronicle of Higher Education, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, Inside Higher Education, Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, and Women in Higher Education, with one print appearance in the vember 27, 2015, issue of The Chronicle. We know that The Chronicle's ad was viewed 572 times online. The print edition has more than 64,000 subscribing academics and a total readership of more than 315,000. Other postings for which we could get a report on the hits had smaller numbers: Diverse Issues with 48; Inside Higher Education with 34 verified views. 2 P age The second area was the broad distribution of a communication inviting applications and nominations of candidates. Communicating with leaders and/or members of higher education organizations, associations, senior administrator groups, colleagues, and more, we reached out to more than 5,250 people all over the country and across the higher education spectrum. Finally, a very good presidential search Web page was built on the university's site. Both the position profile and institutional profile also were carried on the AGB Search site. The committee began the review of each of the candidates suggested to AGB Search by members of the search committee, including applications #42, 43, and 44 since committee members didn t have a chance to forward their name to AGB Search. NOTE: the only applicants that didn t appear on at least one of the search committee members short lists was Mr. Ronald T. Spriggs, J.D., Dr. Gurendra Nath Bhardwaj, and Dr. Lawrence J. McCrank. These applicants will not be considered by the search committee.
4 Applicants on the list compiled by AGB Search were discussed one by one. The process that was used is listed below: After an individual applicant was discussed, one of the co chairs asked for no less than 9 committee voting members to move that applicant forward. The co chair did so by asking the committee for the first move, then the second move and so on until 9 were reached. This happened in no particular order, just a free offering of hands by the committee, with no committee member "moving" twice. te that 9 is 75% of the number of voting members (12) Any applicant that did not receive 9 moves was eliminated from further consideration. Chancellor Mark Hagerott asked the committee to reconsider its decision on considering Dr. Cynthia Lindquist s application for the UND Presidency. Besides what the committee also discussed previously about the candidate s qualifications, he said he currently has six Chancellor Cabinet studies taking place and Dr. Lindquist would have some unique qualifications that could help guide these studies. She also was a former member of the Governor s Cabinet. After further discussion, Dr. Neuerburg made a motion to reconsider her application for the position. For a lack of a second, the motion failed. The co chairs reviewed the interview questions along with the logistics for each of the interviews as well as how the voting process will work at the end of day two. They also laid out how the campus visits will be handled between February 11 and March 3.

Naganathan, dean, College of Engineering and Interim President (2014 15) at University of Toledo, Ohio Dr. Jay ren, associate dean, College of Medicine at University of Illinois in Chicago and former president at Wayne State University Dr. Morgan R. Olsen, executive vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer at Arizona State University, Arizona Dr. Mark Rudin, vice president for research and economic development at Boise State University, Idaho Dr. Steven Shirley, president, Minot State University; former president, Valley City State University, rth Dakota to the campus between the dates of February 11 and March 3, 2016. While the semi finalists are on campus they will interview with the search committee; meet with Chancellor Hagerott; UND faculty, staff, students, and administration; UND Foundation Board and staff; and community leaders, legislators, etc. Perrin, Poolman, Neset, Hacker, Kubatova, Osborne, Morgan, Nelson, Neuerburg, Kopp, El Rewini, and Shaft voted yes.
