Academic calendar and date of arrival at the ENSCM In order for us to welcome you as well as possible, you are kindly requested to arrive at Montpellier, "Ecole de Chimie", for registration two days if possible before the classes begin The classes start at the following dates: FIRST ENSCM YEAR STUDENTS : Monday, September 1st SECOND ENSCM YEAR STUDENTS : Monday, September 1st THIRD ENSCM YEAR STUDENTS : From Monday, September 15 th until Wednesday, October 1st (depending on the options) Please note! International students who come to the ENSCM for research projects and do not take courses will be advised when to arrive The Academic calendar : First Semester From the beginning of September 2014 to the end of January 2015 Second Semester From the beginning of February 2014 to the end of May 2015
Accommodation Only some of you will be given access to state-run students' Halls of Residence (prices from : 173 per month to 255 ). The Hall of Residence where you will be admitted are : Voie Domitienne and Boutonnet. Please do not ask for another one, we are not able to change this. Please note that, you can only ask for a single room. You will be taken to your room upon your arrival if you informed the Club Erasmus about your arrival. IMPORTANT : If you have been accepted a room in a hall of residence, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you through the platform Interlog Those who have not been offered hall of residence accommodation will have to look for private accommodation by themselves. You will find useful information on the CROUS Website : www.crous-montpellier.fr and on http://www.espace-etudiant.com You will have access to cheap meals at student restaurants (Restaurant Universitaire) (3.05 for a meal)
Arrival On your arrival day, in order for the ENSCM Students t of the Welcome Club to pick you up either at the airport or at the "SNCF" railway station, If, for any reasons you have not been able to give us notice of your arrival and you arrive after our office is closed, our students cannot welcome you on the day of your arrival, you can spend the night at the Montpellier Youth Hostel : Auberge de Jeunesse (in French) rue de la Petite Curraterie 34000 Montpellier 04.67.60.32.22 Reservation are made on the Auberge de Jeunesse Web Site www.hostelbooking.com Administrative Requirements Please make sure that you take the required forms and documents from your national institutions before leaving your country. - Student's card - Birth Certificate, Translated into French - 1 passport-sized identity photograph - European Card for Social Security (European Students) For non-european Union students : Please bring along an official document stating that you receive any grant and the amount of this grant. Civil Liability You need to take an insurance for your accommodation that will also cover your civil liability (needed for your registration at ENSCM). You can sign for this in a bank or in any insurance company. (directions: take the tramway, direction "Mosson", to the "Louis Blanc" station; the street where the hostel is located is on the left hand side of the big ancient building in front of you)
First step : Tour arrival in Montpellier You advised the club accueil Erasmus for someone to pick you up at the time and place you will arrive (either at the bus station, or at the train station or at the airport). If you decide to get to Montpellier by car, you may arrive directly to the ENSCM. Second Step : Accommodation Procedure - You have received notice from our International Relations Office of being entitled to a room in the state-run Hall of residence This centrally state-run administration accommodates nonprivileged, grant-holding French students and international ones, in its cheap (but rather Spartan) students' Halls of residence called "Cités Universitaires". At this stage, you will have to give : 150 euros as a one-month rent deposit. This sum will be refunded to you at the end of your stay provided - no damage nor breakage has been done to the room and to the Cité Universitaire, -DO NOT leave your state-run accommodation before the date agreed at the beginning of your stay in Montpellier, The payment of the room's first month's rent, has to be given to the Secretary of your Cité Universitaire at your arrival the payment of 5 euros for administrative costs 2 identity photographs If you are a non-european student, you must provide a certificate of warrant which proves that you have received sufficient financial means to cover the cost of accommodation or someone will pledge to pay in your stead. - You do not have a room reserved in the state-run Hall of residence or you have chosen to find yourself an accommodation in the private sector If you have not been offered students' Hall of Residence accommodation, you will have to look for private accommodation and thus come preferably earlier to do so. WELCOMING AND REGISTRATION STEPS Third step : registration procedure at the International Relations Office - You will fill in the official registration forms of the Registration office (Service Scolarité), the "dossier d'inscription étudiant". - You will provide : 211 for health insurance (if you are not an EU citizen and if you stay more than three months in Montpellier) 1 identity picture for your file at the International Relations Office IMPORTANT : As for Health Insurance, Non-European / Non-European Economic Area Students : -If you intend to stay more than 3 months : As you must be insured for your stay in France, according to the French law, you will have to take a French Insurance on arrival, which will give you the same rights as French students. So, you will have to pay about 203. Since the national security service only covers 70% of your medical expenses, you can take an additional insurance in order to cover the extra 30% (information may be given to you later on). Nevertheless be informed that this insurance will be effective only from the 1 st day of the month after your registration ( immatriculation ). So, make sure that you are insured for your travel to France and for the first month of your stay here. - If you intend to stay between 1 day and 3 months : you must take an insurance in your own country which will cover you during your stay in France. We inform you that only INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE WILL BE ACCEPTED IN THE FRENCH HOSPITALS
Fourth step : Student Resident s Card and Accomodation Allowance For non european students : you need a visa long séjour for a stay from 4 to 12 months. It gives you the same rights than the carte de séjour if you are a student. You have been given a form from the OFII that you have to fill in on arrival and send to the OFII services that will give you an appointment within 3 months. If you intend to stay longer than 12 months, you will have to ask for a carte de séjour A student from the Welcoming club of international students will take you to the PRES office located near the ENSCM. (tram station Albert 1er, 163 rue Auguste Broussonet) Accommodation allowance The French state, through an administration called Caisse d allocations familiales (CAF), gives an accommodation allowance, Aide au Logement Social (ALS) or Aide Personnalisée au Logement (APL), to all its under-privileged citizens and legal residents which includes European and international students. This allowance will usually enable you to cut your accommodation costs by half. You will need to provide copies of several forms : - One copie of the Attestation d'inscription ( Certificat de Scolarité ) - A copy of the "attestation de domicile" or "certificat d'hébergement" - A copy of your Student Resident s card - A birth certificate translated into French --Social Security certificate -- Bank account information For more information about this allowance : http///www3.caf.fr
