Farewell and Good Luck Mrs Lucy Dreyer will be commencing maternity leave tomorrow to prepare for the birth of her baby. Lucy has been teaching at Irymple South for four years and we appreciate all the time and effort that she has put in to educating the students in her classes. We wish Lucy, and her husband Tim, all the best for the arrival of their bundle of joy. Lucy and Tim will be returning to England next year, so we would like to take this opportunity to say farewell to Mrs Dreyer. We will all miss you! Mrs Aleisha Milne will be teaching 2D for the remainder of the year. Congratulations Next weekend Miss Sarah Gladman will be getting married! She is marrying Will Callow and we wish them all the very best for their marriage together. Sarah will return as Ms Gladman the following week. Camps Program All students participate in a graduated Camps program, from The Preps excursion day and tea at school to the Grade 5/6 camp to Roses Gap. Next week the Preps, Grade 3s and Grade 5/6s have their camps. Camps require a lot of organising and overnight camps require staff to spend time away from home. I would like to thank all the staff who are involved. Grade 1 Excursion and Tea All the Grade 1s excitedly boarded the bus this morning for their excursion. The students will be going to Bunnings, Woodsies, Jaycee Park, Park for Play and Ten Pin Bowling. We look forward to hearing about how they enjoyed their excursion and tea. We are formally inviting all parents or special friends to come and be involved in the interactive learning. This will be a great opportunity to see how students are involved in some balanced learning through 21 st century development. Puberty Education Last week the Grade 6 students participated in a Puberty Education session with Denise Pragt. Classroom Technology Our school s focus has been on providing quality teaching and learning and ensuring best results for all students. Netbooks have been used extensively in Grades 3-6 for several years now and two classroom sets of ipads are shared amongst classes in the school. Our teachers have engaged in extensive professional learning using international research and experts based in Melbourne. This professional learning has supported our teachers to understand how to use technology to support the teaching and learning. There are many outstanding educational opportunities now available. Technology is not used at all times during the day and it will not replace all aspects of the great teaching that currently takes place. It will be used strategically to support students learning and to engage our students in the world in which they live. Irymple South currently provides a range of technology resources to assist in providing engaging learning opportunities for students and teachers. Some of these technologies include: Interactive whiteboard/televisions in all classrooms Computer lab Class sets of netbooks Class sets of ipads Digital reading devices Bring Your Own ipad in 2016 Thank you to the many families who have returned their expression of interest regarding the BYOD program in 2016. After extensive professional reading the staff at ISPS, supported by the School Council will be introducing the BYOD model as an option for parents, based on Apple ipad in 2016. This will not be compulsory and technology will be available for student use if you do not support this program next year. We are currently negotiating with JB Hifi to establish an Irymple South portal where Apple ipads will be available to buy, lease or flexi rent, at competitive prices. More information about this portal should be available very soon. This offer will include options for insurance and apples care and protective cases. If your child already has an ipad then you are welcome to use these devices, except the older models of ipad 1 & 2. Policies are being developed around the use of ipad and other technologies and will encompass possible scenarios which will be distributed to all students and all families. As we are currently doing we will do our utmost to ensure our students use the technology appropriately and are safe online. Grade Two Excursion Last Thursday, we had our excursion and sleepover at school. We went on a paddle steamer, visited the Rio Vista house and the Mildura Homestead to learn about Mildura s local history. We then went to the House of Bounce. When we got back to school we played some games, had dinner, went on a treasure hunt and had a disco before changing into our PJs and getting into our beds. It was very exciting sleeping at school! We all had a wonderful time although we were very tired on Friday! Gabby; My favourite part of the excursion was the disco at school. I felt very excited because there was very loud music! Georgia; My favourite part of the excursion was House of Bounce because it was really fun. There was a lot of jumping involved! I liked the foam pit best of all. Piper; My favourite part of the Grade Two excursion was when we went on the PS Melbourne Paddle steamer. I was so thrilled when I got to see how the engine works and when we got to have a turn steering the wheel! Rueban; My favourite part of the sleepover was getting into my PJs and watching a movie. I was very proud of myself for being brave. Nikala; My favourite part of the grade two sleepover was when we went on the paddle steamer. I liked the view because you could see lots of things. I also liked taking photos of the paddle steamer and around the paddle steamer because I could look back at them and remember that time. This decision is based upon our desire to make the reception of these Sacraments more pastorally effective. The outline of the Eucharist Program for 2016 will be available in the very near future; however, it would be good for parents to know in advance that they will be expected to attend Faith Formation Evenings in the first week of March 2016.
