Meet the Preceptors Laura Adkins,, Residency Program Director and Preceptor for Drug Information/Medication Safety, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Laura graduated from Rutgers University College of Pharmacy in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at University of Maryland Medical Center. Laura moved further south in 2000 to take a position as the Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg Virginia. In 2004, Laura became the Pharmacy Clinical Manager at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Laura serves as a clinical assistant professor for Virginia Commonwealth University and Shenandoah University Colleges of Pharmacy. Laura lives in Harrisonburg with her husband, Bret, son, Cameron, and daughter, Virginia. Betsy Early,, MBA Director of Pharmacy and Preceptor for Pharmacy Management, Leadership, and Informatics Betsy graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Betsy began her career at Sentara RMH Medical Center as a staff pharmacist. In 1989 she obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from James Madison University. Shortly thereafter, Betsy accepted the Director of Pharmacy position at Sentara RMH Medical Center. In 2001, Betsy received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Betsy currently serves as a clinical assistant professor for Virginia Commonwealth University and Shenandoah University Colleges of Pharmacy. In 2013, Betsy was named Director of Pharmacy for the Blue Ridge Region of Sentara. Jamin Engel,, MBA Pharmacy Manager and Preceptor for Sterile Compounding Jamin attended James Madison University as an undergraduate, then graduated from the Medical College of Virginia/ VCU School of Pharmacy in 2008. Shortly after graduation, Jamin joined the Sentara RMH Pharmacy staff and has transitioned into the sterile products coordinator and Lead Staff. He recently has furthered his studies within business/administration by obtaining an MBA from JMU in 2013. Originally from the Shenandoah Valley, Jamin enjoys participating in all outdoor sports, as well as spending valuable time with his wife, Katie, daughter, Ella and son, Colby. Lesley Humphries,, Preceptor for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Pediatrics/Women s Health Lesley graduated from Auburn University in 2011 with a Doctorate in Pharmacy and minor in Spanish. She completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Sentara RMH Medical Center in 2012. She is originally from Birmingham, Alabama and has lived in since 2011. In 2013, Lesley became Board Certified as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist. She enjoys watching college football, listening to live music, attending local festivals, and spending time with her friends, family, and pets. John Moore,, BCOP Preceptor for Oncology John attended Virginia Tech as an undergraduate. He then attended Virginia Commonwealth University receiving a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy. John has spent the majority of his career since that time at Sentara RMH Medical Center, where he is currently employed as a clinical pharmacist. John received a non-traditional in 2006 from Shenandoah University. He also obtained Board Certification in Oncology in 2007. Jeremy Rose,, Preceptor for Infectious Diseases, Antimicrobial Stewardship
Jeremy graduated from Ohio Northern University in 2008, with a Doctorate in Pharmacy and minors in Chemistry, Theology and Dance. He completed a PGY-1 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in 2009. He is originally from Northeast Ohio and has lived in since 2008. Jeremy enjoys playing/watching any and all sports, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling his dog Sir Edmund Wallace III. Jeremy obtained certification in 2013. Ellen Shinaberry, Pharmacy IT Manager and Preceptor for Pharmacy Management, Leadership, and Informatics Ellen graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. She came to Sentara RMH in 1992 as the Supervisor of both the Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacies. In 2000, Ellen earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy. She has since transitioned to Pharmacy Informatics and is responsible for pharmacy automation and electronic medication ordering. Ellen was appointed by the Governor to the Virginia Board of Pharmacy in 2010 and was elected Vice Chairman in 2013. She has served as Chairman of numerous committees on the Board of Pharmacy including the Regulation Committee, Special Conference Committee, Informal Conference Committee, and as co-chair of the joint committee with the Virginia Board of Medicine to rewrite the Collaborative Practice Regulations. Throughout her career, Ellen has been very active in the Virginia s Association having served in various capacities including Regional Director, Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, and President in 2005-2006. Ellen lives in Harrisonburg with her husband Curtis, also a pharmacist. They have two daughters, Elizabeth and Madison. Ellen enjoys sailing, cooking, and spending time in the Outer Banks with family and friends. Saumil Vaghela,, Preceptor for Emergency Medicine Saumil attended the University of Virginia as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and a minor in biology. After graduating in 2010 from the Appalachian College of Pharmacy, Saumil completed post-graduate residencies in pharmacy practice at Sentara RMH Medical Center in and emergency medicine at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. Saumil enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. Rick Villiard,,, BCCP Preceptor for Critical Care Rick received a B.S. in Biology from Clinch Valley College of the University of Virginia in 1988, a B.S in pharmacy from Medical College of Virginia in 1991, and a from Shenandoah University in 2001. He has worked as a staff and clinical pharmacist at Sentara RMH since 1991. Rick enjoys outdoor activities such as cycling and camping and spending time with his family. Richard Ware,, BCNSP Preceptor for Internal Medicine with a focus on Oncology Supportive Care/Palliative Care Richard was born in North Carolina. After graduation from high school, Richard served 4 years in the United States Air Force in the Alaskan Air Command. After his military service, he attended The Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy in Richmond, Virginia graduating in 1992 with BS in Pharmacy. He has practiced at various sites including hospital and home infusion pharmacy. Richard has been employed at Sentara RMH Medical Center since May 2004 as a clinical pharmacist. He received a nontraditional in 2006 from Shenandoah University and is a board certified Nutrition Support. Pamela Wilkins,, Preceptor for Internal Medicine with a focus on Nephrology Prior to becoming a Clinical, Pam received a B.S. in Animal & Poultry Science from Virginia Tech and a Master s Degree in Poultry Science from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. She
attended Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy and then moved back to Virginia to complete a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Upon completion of the residency, she joined the pharmacy team as a Clinical at Sentara RMH Medical Center in 2009. Pam enjoys farming on the family farm, gardening, and spending time with her husband and variety of pets.
