Moodle/Program/Course Orientation and Laboratory Safety Review B. Peripheral Ports and Interfaces C. Solid State Device and Hard-Disk drives D. Scanners Printers and Printer Plotters E. Sound Adapters F. Communication devices G. Displays H. Storage In each unit you will be given a lecture/demonstration and then be expected to perform the assignments for each unit. Each assignment will be demonstrated and explained so that you can then attempt and complete it. After each unit, there will be a knowledge exam and a performance exam. Each exam is based on the information discussed during the lecture, the reading assignments and the lab assignments given. Towards the end of the semester the student will apply the proper procedures for the assembly, OS installation and configuration of a computer system. Towards the end of the semester the student will troubleshoot and determine the cause of the problem (hardware or software) and apply the proper resolution. During the semester, each student will apply new skills of laboratory safety during each computer laboratory.

CSMT DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATION POLICY: Student participation is defined in the current TSTC Harlingen Campus Catalog and Student Handbook; and is expanded to include: answering and asking questions during class; completing all Assignments, Activities, Technical Summaries, Tests and Quizzes; and attending classes as scheduled. Additionally, students are expected to read all assigned materials, and come to class prepared for dialog. Your average will be provided by your instructor after each unit exam. Any other questions concerning your grade, average or progress in coursework will not be discussed during class; you must make an appointment to discuss your progress with your Instructor. Note: Lecture Presentations have been modified to support the instruction of this Course and cannot be used in place of reading the book. CLASS POLICIES: ATTENDANCE: As a student you are expected to arrive promptly on time as per your scheduled course time, unless otherwise notified by the Instructor. Weekly attendance will be valued as one full assignment. Late attendance will result in a deduction of points. CONDUCT: In addition to the Student Conduct and Discipline section of the Campus Catalog: Cell phones will be turned OFF or set to vibrate. Texting is prohibited in class especially during exams/quizzes. The Instructor must give permission before taking photos and/or videos in class. Eating and drinking is prohibited in classrooms and laboratories. Cheating and/or copying will earn a grade of zero (0) for all parties involved. Cheating and/or copying are determined by the Instructor, usually with the concurrence of another Instructor. You may appeal your grade, by making an appointment with the Program Chair. No downloading of games or software is allowed, and no game playing on lab computers. Printing material must be related to the course. Any other material must be approved by the Instructor. While class is in session, whether lecture or lab, student will refrain from messaging, using any social media or answering cell phone calls (If you have an emergency step into the hallway quietly). CARE AND USE OF EQUIPMENT:
Students are expected to exhibit reasonable care and safety in the use of all computer systems and related equipment. This includes production machines, trainers (teardown machines), and all peripherals. This also includes any equipment that is considered nonfunctioning or used as demonstration units. Any wanton destruction of equipment, either willfully or by carelessness, may result in a "0" for an assignment or exam, dismissal from class, or dismissal from the CSMT program of study. DUE DATES: Due dates for assignments will be provided by the Instructor, in class and posted on the Course website. Assignments will not be accepted after the due date, and a grade of zero (0) will result. TESTS/QUIZZES: Tests - Only excused absences will be allowed to take make-up tests. Excused absences must be communicated to the instructor through email or voicemail, and will be at the discretion of the Instructor. You must make an appointment to take a make-up test; failure to make-up a test will result in a grade of zero (0). Quizzes - There are no advanced notices for quizzes and no make-ups. Quizzes are usually timed, and late arrivals must complete the quiz before the designated stop time.
