The Success Principles How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be Life is like a combination lock. If you know the combination to the lock... it doesn t matter who you are, the lock has to open. Orrin Hudson The main objective today: Learn how to go further and faster with less effort. The Promise: If you use these principles and strategies, you can easily 1. double your results (including your income), double the amount of your free time have more balance and fun at work and at home, and 4. achieve greater spiritual fulfillment and emotional peace. The three key differences that separate super high-achievers from everyday people: 1. They have unusual clarity about their purpose, mission, vision and goals. They have developed powerful success habits disciplines of success. They take 100% responsibility for their results and they are action oriented. Success Principle 1: Take 100% responsibility for your life and your results. You can t hire other people to do your pushups. Jim Rohn E + R = O... Events + Response = Outcome If you want a different outcome, you have to change your responses. You have to give up blaming others, complaining about circumstances and events, justifying your lack of results, and defending your position. Hold yourself accountable. There are only 3 responses (Rs) you have any control over: 1. Your behavior (including what you say and how you say it) Your thoughts (self-talk) and beliefs (both conscious and unconscious) Your visual imagery (including your images of the future) 1

Thought creates the world and then says, I didn t do it. David Bohm You have to harness the power of your thoughts. Your thoughts (self-talk) control your physical reality more than you realize. The Hand Demonstration: Grow longer! Return to normal. The Kinesiology Demonstration: Lying vs. the truth I can t vs. I can Focusing on Your Successes vs. Your Failures, Criticism and Judgment vs. Support and Appreciation Fear vs. Confidence Service vs. Self-centeredness If you want to be successful, you and your staff have to eliminate the phrase I can t What I can ts do I need to eliminate in my life? 1. You control your attitude by what you think. If you are an average person with a negative attitude, you are half way to the bottom. If you are an average person with a positive attitude, you are half way to the top. Roger Crawford 1. What is a difficult or troubling situation in your life or work? How are you creating it or allowing it to happen? What are you pretending now to know? 4. What is your payoff for keeping it like this? 5. What would you rather be experiencing? 6. What actions will you take to create that? 7. By when will you take that action? 2

Success Principle 25: Drop Out of the Ain t It Awful Club You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Jim Rohn Avoid negative people and associate with positive and successful people... best with people one level up. Utilize the power of a Dream Team or a Mastermind Group. Utilize the Law of Attraction (Like attracts like!) by practicing gratitude, appreciation, love, acceptance and joy. You must create the vibrational (emotional) match for that which you want to receive. The Quick Coherence Technique Quick Coherence will help you find a feeling of ease and inner harmony that will be reflected in your heart rhythms. The heart is a primary generator of rhythm in your body, influencing brain processes that control your nervous system, cognitive function and emotion. More coherent heart rhythms facilitate brain function, allowing you more access to your higher intelligence so you can improve your focus, creativity, intuition and higher-level decision-making. When you re in heart-rhythm coherence, you perform at your best-what athletes call being in the zone. You feel confident, positive, focused and calm yet energized. Step 1: Heart Focus Focus your attention on the area around your heart, the area in the center of your chest. If you prefer, the first couple of times you try it, place your hand over the center of your chest to help keep your attention to the heart area. Step 2: Heart Breathing Breathe deeply but normally and feel as if your breath is coming in and going out through your heart area. As you inhale, feel as if your breath is flowing in through the heart, and as you exhale, feel it leaving through this area. Breathe slowly and casually, a little deeper than normal. Continue breathing with ease until you find a natural inner rhythm that feels good to you. Step 3: Heart Feeling As you maintain your heart focus and heart breathing, activate a positive feeling. Recall a positive feeling, a time when you felt good inside, and try to re-experience the feeling. One of the easiest ways to generate a positive, heart-based feeling is to remember a special place you ve been to or the love you feel for a close friend, family member or treasured pet. This is the most important step. Success Principle 3: Decide What You Want If you re clear and focused on the WHAT, the HOW will show up! Success Principle 7: Unleash the Power of Goal-Setting A goal is something I want which is measurable in time and space. How much... by when? 3

My Life Purpose Success Principle 2: Be Clear Why You Are Here (Clarify Your Purpose) Clarify your purpose, mission, vision and values. To inspire and empower people to live their highest vision in a context of love and joy. To bring joy, compassion, happiness and freedom to people in the world and experience the same while doing it. The Life Purpose Exercise 1 : 1. List two of your unique personal qualities, such as enthusiasm and creativity. List one or two ways you enjoy expressing those qualities when interacting with others, such as to support and to inspire. Assume the world is perfect right now. What does this world look like? How is everyone interacting with everyone else? What does it feel like? This is a statement, in present tense, describing an ultimate condition, the perfect world as you see it and feel it. Remember a perfect world is a fun place to be. 4. Combine the three prior subdivisions of this paragraph into a single statement. Example: My purpose is using my creativity and enthusiasm to support and inspire others as we all freely express our talents in joyfulness, harmony and love. 1 I learned this life purpose exercise from Arnold Patent the author of You Can Have it All! For more information on Arnold Patent visit his website: www.arnoldpatent.com 4

My Irritation / Tolerations List What Is Irritating Me? What am I Tolerating? How Can I Fix It? Who Will I Delegate All or Part of Fixing it To? 1. What irritates you? What do you need to do to fix it? Who could you ask to help get it handled? 4. How do you stop yourself from asking? 5. What is the possible benefit of asking? 6. When will you ask them? 5

It doesn t take any more effort to dream a big dream than it takes to dream a small dream. General Wesley Clark, Former Head of NATO Allied Troops Create a Breakthrough Goal... a goal that would quantum leap your professional success or the success of your company. You want to set a goal that is big enough so that in the process of achieving it, you become someone worth becoming. My Breakthrough Goal is: My Breakthrough Affirmation is: I m so happy and grateful that I now: Write your Breakthrough Goal on the back of your business card and carry it in your wallet and read it every day. Display it on a 3x5 card where you will see it every day, too. Practice the Rule of 5 (Success Principle 23) on your Breakthrough Goal. Do 5 things every day to advance the achievement of your Breakthrough Goal. Five action steps I can take tomorrow to achieve my breakthrough goal: 1. 4. 5. 6

Some of My Limiting Beliefs Are Identifying and Removing Blocks to My Success An area of my life where I feel stuck or blocked or I am having a hard time creating what I want: The feeling I feel when I feel that is: Where that feeling manifests itself in my body is: The early experience I went back to is: The coaching I gave to my younger self is: The coaching my 80-year-old self gave me is: I now feel: 10

Utilize the power of the innernet. Resource: Hidden Messages in Water and The Secret Life of Water by Dr. Masaru Emoto Remember, every thought you think is a virtual e-mail that you send out on the innernet! Success Principle 11: Use the Power of Visualization Remember the 30-day principle - 30 days in a row without interruption. Create a Vision Board Remember, Your level of performance always matches your dominant vision. Visualize all of your goals and results as already complete... twice a day! Feel the feelings you would feel if you had already completed it. VISION REALITY STRUCTURAL TENSION SHIFT IN PERCEPTION EXPANDED CREATIVITY INCREASED MOTIVATION ACTION RESULTS 1. Review your affirmations one to three times a day. The best times are first thing in the morning, in the middle of the day to refocus yourself, and around bedtime. If appropriate, read each affirmation out loud. Close your eyes and visualize yourself as the affirmation describes. See it as if you were looking out at the scene from inside of yourself. Hear any sounds your might hear with you successfully achieve what your affirmation describes. 4. Feel the feelings that you will feel when you achieve that success. The stronger the feelings, the more powerful the process. 5. Say your affirmation again, and then repeat this process with the next affirmation. Perception Exercise What is the one thing that most separates winners from losers? Winner s. 11

Success Principle 13: Take Action THE SUCCESS PRINCIPLES WORKSHOP Take both Obvious and Inspired Actions What stops us from taking action? Answer: FEAR! Oh what the heck go for it anyway! Success Principle 15: Experience Your Fear and Take Action Anyway How to overcome the four major fears: fear of failure, rejection, looking foolish, and loss. FEAR = Fantasized Experiences Appearing Real The Skyscraper Visualization Catastrophic vs. positive visualizations Principle: Your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between a real event and a vividly imagined event. Principle: Your subconscious images are more powerful than your intention. Principle: You can only hold one image in your mind at once. (Seagull...Jackhammer) Use EFT (See Tapping into Ultimate Success by Jack Canfield and Pamela Bruner at www. TappingIntoUltimateSuccess.com) You can also research Tapping on the internet and on YouTube. Success Principle 17: Ask! Ask! Ask! Remember: Nothing happens in life until a request is made, an offer is made or an action is taken. What Do I Need to Ask For? Who Do I Need to Ask? When Will I Ask Them? Remember the 9 No s Exercise! Success is a numbers game. Keep asking until you get a yes. Believe you are worth it Visualize asking for what you want and getting it. 13

Success Principle 18: Reject Rejection SWSWSWSW (Some Will, Some Won t, So What, Someone s Waiting!) What do you say when someone says No! Say NEXT!!! (Next person...next time) Resource: The Aladdin Factor: How to Ask for and Get Anything You Want by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. (New York: Berkley Books, 1995) A powerful six-hour CD live audio program of The Aladdin Factor is also available from www.jackcanfield.com. Success Principle 19: Ask For and Respond to Feedback On Course/Off Course Happy/Not Happy Wealthy/Poor Healthy/Not Healthy... Relaxation/Stress Joy / Lack of Joy... Aliveness / Boredom... Enthusiasm / Lethargy Don t cave in. Don t get mad at the source of the feedback. (i.e., don t shoot the messenger.) Don t ignore the feedback. Ask for it. Welcome it. Express gratitude for it. Respond to it. The most useful question I have ever learned: "On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being high), how would you rate the quality of (our product, our service, our relationship, me as a manager, me as a husband/wife/father/brother/coach/ teacher/student, etc.) during the past (period of time)?" Any answer less than a 10, gets a follow-up question: "What would it take to make it a 10?" I will ask_ for feedback on by. Find a need and fill it! Ask what people want and need, and give it to them. You have to commit to Constant And Never-ending Improvement Success Principle 22: Practice Persistence Never, ever give up on your dream! Take advantage of the Law of Probabilities, which states: The more things you try, the more likely one of them will work. The more people you talk to, the more likely someone will say yes. Success Principle 53: Practice Uncommon Gratitude and Appreciation Believe it or not: People in your organization, customers, clients and family members are more motivated by appreciation, feeling in on things, and an understanding attitude than they are by good wages, job security and promotion opportunities. Our deepest need is to be accepted and appreciated for who we are. 14

What I Am Grateful For 1. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 1 Who Do You Appreciate? What Do You Appreciate About Them? How Could You Express It? When Will You Do It By? Find and work with and Accountability Partner. Have a 5-10 minute call 5 days a week. I will ask to be my partner. 15

Conducting a Mastermind Meeting Each mastermind meeting will be conducted every other week, for one hour, with all members of the group over the phone. Each meeting should follow the proven format described below for insuring each participant stays involved and gets their needs met. My Personal Meeting Plan for This Week Invocation to Share: Step #1: Ask for Spiritual Guidance By Delivering an Invocation A sample invocation that asks God or that higher power to be present might be: We ask now to be filled and surrounded with light, and our hearts be open to receive guidance from a higher power. News to Share: Step #2: Share What s New and Good A good way to bond with others in the group is to each share a success story. Even small successes achieved since the last meeting give others in the group the feeling that this process is working. It s something I need to stay involved with. Step #3: Negotiate for Time While the normal weekly time allotment might be 10 minutes per person, during Step #3 members can negotiate for any extra time they think they ll need. Step #4: Individual Members Speak While the Group Listens and Brainstorms Solutions Discussions can be personal or professional it doesn t matter. As long as everyone is getting value, they ll stay involved with the group. I Need Extra Time For: I Plan to Talk About: Also report on what you committed to last time and whether you completed it. After the allotted time of explanation, discussion and brainstorming, the Timekeeper says, Done! and the group moves on to the next member s needs. Step #5: Make a Commitment to Stretch Once each member has had their time to present, discuss, brainstorm and gain feedback, the Timekeeper asks each member in turn to commit verbally to something they wouldn t normally commit to if they weren t part of the group. My Commitment to Stretch: Step #6: End With Gratitude Your group might end with a group prayer expressing gratitude. Or you might end with each member saying one thing they appreciate about another person in the group. 16
