Florida HoSA Welcome Back! Hello again, Florida HOSA! I ve missed you all very much. As the school bells start ringing again, I know you are all missing sleeping in and the warm Florida sun, but no worries! We have so much planned for you this 2017-2018 HOSA year! So let s crack open those texts books and make a difference in this world as Future Health Professionals. For those of you who don t know, I will be serving as your Florida HOSA State President. During my young HOSA years, I balanced my leadership roles and in my free time, I enjoyed photography, writing, and the outdoors. Not much has changed except that within this past year, serving as a Florida HOSA State Officer, I grew a lot as a leader through my experiences with each one of you; I anticipate pushing the limits even further this year. But that s enough about past me. I am currently in my pre-requisites for Nursing school at Florida International University and my anticipated career path ranges from Nurse Corps to Pediatric Oncology. However, that is for future Jackie to figure out. Right now, I am enjoying every second of life, just like Patch Jackie Anorga State President Adam s said: Being happy is the best cure of all diseases. So, how about we make the best of this crazy thing called life? 2017-2018 HOSA Theme Hey there, Florida HOSA! I am attending Florida State University, and in my limited spare time I enjoy baking and imagining situations in my life that will never happen. I was born and raised in Miami by two Cuban parents who always taught me about seizing my opportunities, staying positive, and staying humble. I hope to apply the work ethic they have instilled in me in order to help HOSA and all of its members reach their full potential. I have been an aspiring State Officer since my first State Conference in 2014 and it feels totally surreal that I have finally accomplished that goal. I remember how seemingly impossible my goals were just a few years ago and I hope to help all of you realize how tangible your goals really are and even help you accomplish some of your goals, if possible. Others things I hope to accomplish during my time as an officer are to help increase the membership in all divisions as well as increase the connection among them. All HOSA members have such a unique experience in which they learn a special skill and because of this, I Kasey Cantelli State President-Elect believe that every member s experience is important to share. I hope that each and everyone one of you has an amazing school year and makes the most of your opportunities. Most importantly, though, I wish that you all find happiness within your life.

Welcome Back! Page 2 Florida HOSA, welcome back to a new school year of endless opportunity! As you experience the end of being a member in one chapter and the beginning of the next, always remember the lasting relationships that you made in HOSA. I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve Florida HOSA this year as a State Officer and could not be more delighted. Currently, I am a senior at Timber Creek High School in Orlando and a Region 10 HOSA member. I became involved in HOSA through the Project Lead the Way Biomedical Program as my advisor introduced the opportunities and potential growth I could experience through joining this organization. Now I would like to maximize your growth as a member of HOSA and as a person. I am beyond excited to serve as your Florida HOSA State Northern Vice-President, Secondary in this 2017-2018 HOSA year. For this upcoming year, I hope to be a leader that empowers you. Seek opportunity, pursue it, and be the best you! Go with an expectation of Evangelina Wong greatness and you are bound to find it. I want to meet each and every one of State Northern VP, Sec. you. As a HOSA family, we will share in each other s successes, as well as our challenges. We will help each other stand and continue to walk forward together in pursuit of our future health careers. I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse. - Florence Nightingale Suzane Nazir State Northern VP, PS/C Welcome back, Florida HOSA! I hope you are all as stoked as your State Team is to introduce you to the 2017-2018 academic and HOSA year! I m ecstatic and honored to be serving you all for another year. This will mark my sixth year in this incredible organization and I would find it hard to express how remarkable my experiences have been thus far. I m currently a Public Health and Cell/Molecular Biology student at the University of South Florida (the largest Postsecondary/ Collegiate chapter in the state - GO BULLS!!) to ultimately reach my goal of attending medical school. In my last term as State Officer for this wonderful association, I aspire to increase connectivity amongst respective regions. I believe that through communication, members and advisors will be able to share ideas and methods with each other across the state thus allowing them to improve old techniques and/or strengthen their own. This will foster an environment where members will ultimately be able to reap more from this organization. With that being said, while you are enjoying the last few days of your summer vacation, be mindful of the opportunities that present themselves this year. And as always, bear in mind the impact you can have on those around you. I look forward to meeting you all at various future conferences. Let s make it a great year!

Florida HoSA Welcome back, my fellow HOSA members! The time has come again - textbooks are being opened, pencils are in hand, and school bus engines are revving. It s going to be an amazing year! I am honored to be your State Southern Vice-President, Secondary. I m Hope, and I bring the hope to HOSA. I m a freshman at the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!) majoring in nursing, hopeful to become a travel nurse. I m originally from Weston, which is a small town near Fort Lauderdale, where I spent my days enjoying the life of a typical Floridian. I attended Cypress Bay High School, where I was the VP of Publicity in my HOSA chapter. Not only was I involved in HOSA, but also volunteered twice a week at my local hospital, Cleveland Clinic Florida. As a State Officer, I hope to be a leader, but also your friend. It is very rewarding to be able to engage with our incredible HOSA members and advisors. I hope to serve you to the best of my ability and have the members of HOSA thrive with success! All in all, I hope everyone is ready for an amazing year filled with opportunities and countless memories! Page 3 Hope Bruner State Southern VP, Sec. If you think you can do a thing or think you can t do a thing, you re right. - Henry Ford Charles Benetiz State Parliamentarian Welcome back, Florida HOSA! I m sure you are all wishing that you were still at the beach, kicking it back with all your friends, but it is now time to begin setting ten alarms to wake up by 6 a.m. and hitting the books. August is not just the beginning of the new school year, it s also the beginning of the 2017-2018 HOSA year! I hope you make the best of your opportunities this year through Florida HOSA and I can t wait to hear all about it throughout the year. I am entering my Junior year of college at Nova Southeastern University as an Athletic Training Major. Competing in Sports Medicine in HOSA the past 4 years has really given me the edge in my classes and I use my knowledge and skills everyday on athletes to get them ready to compete at a high level. I aspire to become an orthopedic surgeon and someday work with professional athletes. HOSA has impacted me in ways that I would have never expected when I first joined; it has been a life changing experience and is something that I want everyone to experience. That is why I became a State Officer, to help make Florida HOSA the best it can be and make it a great life changing experience for each one of you! Please feel free to come up to me and ask any HOSA questions you have or to just talk to me about your HOSA experience. I want to get to know all of our Florida HOSA members because each member is special and has a unique HOSA story. I look forward to a sensational year serving you and making this the best HOSA year yet!

I L C 2 0 1 7 Page 4 HOSA Week November 5-11, 2017 (or whenever your chapter designates!) HOSA Week is a time for HOSA members to get out into the community and provide services, inform about opportunities in health care, show appreciation to health professionals and promote HOSA! While the first full week in November is usually designated as HOSA Week, chapters can select any week to be HOSA Week for their school. For activity ideas, follow this link to the National HOSA webpage: http://www.hosa.org/node/122.
