FACILITIES and PARKING In order to ensure continued use of the Varsity Stadium professional facilities, all principals, coaches and participants must be made aware of the following specific information. 1. Varsity Stadium is located at the south-east corner of Bloor Street and Devonshire Street. It is easily accessible via T.T.C. The St. George subway station (Bedford Exit) is across the street. 2. Street parking is available on Bloor Street. Green P parking is available in the parking garage north of Bloor and another along Prince Arthur Avenue. Parking is also available on Devonshire Rd along the west side of the track. 3. The washrooms and concession stand are located on the concourse level below the stands,. Any person causing damage to any part of the facility will be held liable. Please make all students are aware of this fact. 4. ALL coaches and participants are requested to remain in the bleachers unless called for marshalling. All spectators are to remain in the stands. Only participating athletes and officials are permitted in the infield. All events can be seen from the bleachers especially if those in front do not obstruct the view. 5. Marshalling of athletes- athletes are to walk along the concourse level to the northeast corner of the track for marshalling. NO athletes are to cross the track or walk along the track to the marshalling area. 6. FINISH LINE: Electronic equipment will be used at the finish line. Official decisions on race results will be made by the Chief Finish Line Judge with the use of the electronic equipment. NO OTHER RECORDING DEVICES WILL BE VIEWED. 7. Insurance liability only covers the TCDSB at Varsity Stadium; therefore, students should not venture onto restricted areas. As the meet is held during a regular school day, supervision of participants according to the excursion handbook must be provided by each school. 8. GENERAL INFORMATION 1. DATE/LOCATION/TIME The 2016 City Track and Field Meet will be held on Wednesday, May 25 th, 2016 at VARSITY STADIUM at the University of Toronto. STARTING TIMES: FIELD: TRACK: 9:45 AM SHARP 10:15 AM SHARP 2. INCLEMENT WEATHER/EXTREME HEAT ALERT In case of serious inclement weather or extreme heat alert, schools are asked to check email. An email will be sent to all principals, vice-principals, school secretaries and athletic representatives. In addition, you can check the TCDSB website or call the CEC at 222-8282, extension 3121 for an update on the status of the meet. If an alternate date/location can be confirmed, schools will be notified by 12:00 noon. 3. QUALIFIERS 100M 200M 400M Relays - Top 2 from Regional Final 800M 1500M: - Top 3 from Regional Final Field Events: - Top 2 from Regional Final 4. AGE CATEGORIES All ages are according to year of birth (see chart below). 5. PARENTAL & MEDIA CONSENT FORMS A signed parental consent form and media consent form for all participating students must be on file in the schools. 6. SUITABLE ATTIRE a) Suitable attire must be worn by all competitors (i.e. gym shorts or track tights, school identifying t-shirts, and running shoes). Sweat pants will only be allowed in the case of inclement weather and at field events. Note: NO JEWELRY IS ALLOWED NO JEANS ALLOWED, even in the Shot Put Event. b) Bare feet will not be allowed in any event. c) NO SPIKES AND NO TRACK SHOES WITH SPIKES REMOVED WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE CITY FINAL. START LINE MARSHALS WILL CHECK SHOES and IDENTIFYING T-SHIRT AND IF NEED BE, SEND STUDENTS BACK FOR RUNNING SHOES AND CORRECT TOP. 7. RACE START SILENCE is a must during the start of each race. 8. AWARDS a) MEDALLIONS - 1 ST, 2 ND, 3 RD b) RIBBONS - 4 TH, 5 TH, 6 TH, 7 TH, 8 TH, Participant ribbons for all other athletes c) INDIVIDUAL TROPHIES -new TCSAA record, or 3 First Place finishes -champion Grade 8 relay teams d) TCSAA TROPHY -Grade 8 Relay Boys -Grade 8 Relay Girls e) CITY CHAMPION SCHOOL -Patrick Flannery Plaque, City shield & 40 Champion ribbons f) CITY FINALIST SCHOOLS -Two City finalist pennants& 40 finalist ribbons. 9. ULTRA VIOLET (UV) RAYS / HYDRATION Coaches and athletes should be aware of the implications of excessive exposure to U.V. rays. Sunscreens and hats are strongly recommended. Students are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to ensure proper hydration during the meets. 10. TRACK AND FIELD REGULATIONS All rules are consistent with the Canadian Track and Field Association Rule Book. 4

11. RELAY RACE INFORMATION Please note that Varsity has told us we cannot use tape on the track. ONLY CHALK WILL BE PERMITTED TO USE ON THE TRACK. We will remind students of this at the start of the relay races. 11. HIGH JUMP STARTING HEIGHTS AGE BOYS GIRLS Grade 5-: 120 cm 115 cm Grade 6: 125 cm 120 cm Grade 7: 135 cm 125 cm Grade 8: 145 cm 130 cm 12. SHOT PUT INDOOR SHOT PUTS WILL BE USED AT THE CITY MEET. Weights 3.0 kg. for all competitors with the exception of Grade 8 (13+) Boys who will be required to put a 4.0 kg., and Grade 5 (10 & under) Boys and Girls will be required to put a 2.0 kg. 13. STAND-INS When a competitor is called for a track event and is already competing in a field event, leave him/her at the field event and send a stand-in for your runner to the track marshalling area. Before the runners are taken to the start of a race, the stand-in will be sent by the marshal to bring the actual runner to the start. Send a boy to stand-in for a girl and vice versa to make it obvious to the Track Marshals. This procedure will facilitate the officiating at field events and speed up marshalling. *** If at all possible, have a stand-in assigned before the day of the meet and insure he/she is aware of his/her responsibility. *** 14. POINT SYSTEM Points for the City Championships will be awarded in the following manner: 1 st place 10 points 4 th place 4 points 2 nd place 8 points 5 th place 2 points 3 rd place 6 points 6 th place 1 point 5
