Frequently Asked Questions How do I access itslearning? Browse to hkr.itslearning.com Click the button Logga in med HKR-konto (Log in with HKR-konto) Log in with your HKR mail and password. Who can I contact if I get a problem? See Frequently Asked Questions and contact information at www.hkr.se/en/study-at-hkr/serviceand-support/itslearning/ Where can I get help? For personal help, we offer drop-in at 12:00 to 13:00 every weekday during the term. You will find us in the computer room 07-323 above the library. For technical support, turn to IT educators at Learning Resource. You can reach us through the University helpdesk - 3030@hkr.se or +44 20 30 30. Can I get itslearning in my language? When you log in for the first time you will get an option to choose language. This can also be changed later. When you are logged in you can change language at any time by clicking your name in the top right corner and choose My settings - Customize itslearning (Mina inställningar - Anpassa itslearning). This will only affect the global functions in itslearning. All content posted by a teacher or student will remain in its original language. How can I download itslearning? You do not need to download anything in order to log into your course. Just open the program you normally use to browse the internet (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari). However, some parts of the course material might require special software. The most common are Flash Player to see movies in the course, Adobe Reader to read documents in PDF format or Office to open uploaded documents. Can I use itslearning on my smartphone/tablet? On your smartphone or tablet, please log in exactly the same way as on a PC. There is currently no special app for itslearning. Just use the app on your mobile device that is designed for web pages (usually Safari or Chrome). 2
Find your course You have to register to get access to your course To get access to your course you have to register. The quickest way is to register online at http://www.hkr.se/registrering. Registration opens one week prior to the course s start date. After registration it will take one work day until you get access to the course. Favourites for quick access You will find all courses you have access by clicking the tab Courses. Note the little stars in the course list. Courses marked with an orange star can also be accessed via the Go to-menu. Hat is a quick way to navigate between courses. If you lose access to your course In almost all courses there will be an activity control in the third week of the course. If you do not participate you will lose access to your course. Inside your course Bulletins on the course dashboard, more material in the menu When you enter a course you will see the Course dashboard. Most teachers use the dashboard to post news to their students. Other course materials will be found in the lower part of the left hand navigation. Follow-up and reports The grade book is used very differently in different courses. In some courses you will see a preview of your results here, your final results can always be found via HKR website at My Study Information. Personal report is a very useful function if there is a lot of material in your course. You will get an overview of the course with markers to tell what you have opened, witch assignments you have submitted etc. 4
Change details Contact information, photo and presentation Click your name in the top right corner and choose Your settings Change details to change your contact information, upload a photo and write a brief presentation. Your presentation will be available for students and teachers in all courses you participate in. DO NOT change your password in itslearning If you wish to change your password you should use the link https://pwreset.hkr.se/ E-mail alerts and message forwarding You can activate e-mail alerts to get information from your courses sent to the mail address you entered in your contact information. Click your name in the top right corner and choose Your settings Alerts. On Your settings Message settings you can chose to get all personal messages forwarded to the mail address you entered in your contact information. 5
Messaging Messages to students and teachers in your course An easy way to send a personal message to someone in your course is to click the link Participants in the course menu, mark one or more persons and click the button Send. You will get a message form with those persons pre entered as participants. Read your messages Click the letter in the top menu to read and reply to new messages. Click the link Messages in the same window to access all your messages, both new, old and sent. Your student e-mail Messages in itslearning are only internal. If you need to send e-mail to someone who is not a student or employee of HKR you can use your student email at mail.hkr.se 6
Discussions Participate in a discussion Discussions in a course are initiated by the teacher änd can be found in the lower part of the menu. You can eitehr start a new thead or opan an existing thread to submit a reply. Your can edit your entrance up to fifteen minutes after submitting it. Your photo in discussions If you upload a photo in Your settings Change details that image will be visible in discussions in all your courses. Attach a file to a discussion 1. Choose Insert File from your web files 2. Click Upload file 3. Find the file on your computer. Save. 4. In the list of your web files: click the link symbol (a little globe) 5. A link will appear in the textbox 6. Write your message 7. Save. NB! The link will not work until you have saved. 7
Assignments September 2014 In most courses you are supposed to submit assignments via the element Assignment. Submitting via the element Assignment When you submit in the element Assignment normally only your teacher can read your answer. If it is a group assignment everyone in the group can see what has been submitted and the teacher s comments. 1. Click the button "Answer". 2. Upload your file(s). 3. If it is a group assignment there will be a box near the end of the page where you can specify who else was in the group. 4. Click "Submit" at the bottom of the page. After submitting you can edit your assignment, if needed. When your teacher starts reviewing your assignment editing will be disabled. See your result The easiest way to see your result is to open the element for the assignment again. If your teacher has submitted feedback you will find it at the bottom of the page. Feedback might also be available in Status and follow-up in the top part of the left hand menu. Submitting via Urkund Urkund is at system for plagiarism control and should be used for all final exams at Kristianstad University. Submitting via Urkund is very similar to submitting in the element Assignment. The difference is that you have to enter your e-mail address. You will get an e-mail from Urkund asking you to register to verify your e-mail. 8
Submitting in a folder Work submitted via the element Assignment can only be read by a teacher. When you are supposed to read each other s work your teacher can give you permission to add it to a folder. 1. Open the folder. 2. Click the button Add 3. If available; choose what type of content you are submitting 4. Write a title and upload your document. 5. Save Default settings in itslearning does not give students permission to upload material directly to a folder. The permissions have to be assigned by a teacher. Submitting in a discussion In some courses you are supposed to hand in files via a discussion. Se the section on how to attach a file to a discussion at a previous page. 9
Test Taking a test Prior to starting at test you can see some information; for example how many questions will be in the test and if there is a time limit. There might also be some information from your teacher. After reading the information click the button Start test. At the last question there will be a button to complete the test. If you need to skip some questions remember to navigate to the last question to complete. See your result on a test Many test will show your result as soon as you have completed the test. Other test needs to be reviewed by a teacher first. You can find your results on an older test by opening that test again. It is important that you have a stable Internet connection while participating in a test. But most tests are possible to restart if your access suddenly is lost. We do not recommend taking tests on your smartphone or tablet. 10
eportfolio September 2014 In your eportfolio you can build a web site to present yourself and your work. You can choose to keep your portfolio private, to share it with your courses or to publish it on the Internet. Find your eportfolio Your eportfolio consists of different parts presentation, blog and one or more portfolios for different subjects. Find your eportfolio by clicking your name in the Go to-menu and then chose eportfolio. Important settings for your eportfolio Settings and permissions for your eportfolio are important. With default settings your portfolio is private; only you can see it. There are three other possible settings: 1. Your courses and projects, i.e. all fellow students and teachers in your courses. 2. All users of this site, i.e. all user from Kristianstad University who are logged in to itslearning. 3. Available on the Internet. It is not possible to give permissions to chosen persons or a specific course. 11
Projects for collaboration September 2014 You can create a Project and invite other students if you need a collaboration space for group studies or anything else related to your studies at Kristianstad University. Create a Project Click the tab Projects and the button Add. Fill in the form to set a name for your project. Description and objectives are optional fields. Invite participants Initially you are the only participant, so the first thing you have to do is to invite others.. 1. Open your project. 2. Click the link Participants. 3. Click Invite users You need the user ID to invite someone. Invitation cannot be sent to an e-mail address. The easiest way is to click the little blue search icon and search for the full name. Write a short message to the people you wish to invite. They will get your invitation as a message in itslearning and they need to accept it to get access to your project. 12
Start working in your project As you can see a project is very similar to a course, but as an owner of a project you are the teacher. You can assign that role one or more participant(s) in the project by clicking their name in the participant list and change their role to Project manager. In your project dashboard you can add bulletins or events for the group. To initiate a discussion click Add at the bottom of the menu and chose Discussion. You can also add files, links, folders, conference (i.e. chat) and surveys. From First Class to itslearning Starting September 2014 all courses at Kristianstad will get access to itslearning. Course material prior to august 2014 is still on First Class Prior to august 2014 some courses used First Class for documents and discussions. Material from older courses will not be transferred to itslearning. If you need material from your previous studies you can still log in at www.fc.hkr.se to get access. Remember to check your student e-mail The messaging system in itslearning will only handle messages sent internally within itslearning. If you need to send regular e-mail you are welcome to use your student e-mail mail.hkr.se Remember to check your student e-mail regularly since important information from the University and the Student Union might come as e-mail. 13
