We consider it an honor that you have chosen us to help you teach your teen how to drive. Our program will give them the structure, discipline, and skills to truly become a Safe Driver For Life. Please review this guide before you begin this course. The following are the contents of this package: Quick Reference Checklists by age group--make sure you refer to the correct one for your age (Age 15 and 15 1/2 or over 16 years old). Detailed Colorado Step-by-Step Guide Sample forms As you work through our program and the licensing process, we welcome your calls anytime on whatever issue or question may arise at 1-800-942-2050 (voice only). Again, thank you for choosing our program. Sincerely, The Entire Staff at National Driver Training Institute

Age 15 & 15 1/2 Colorado Quick Reference Checklist: This checklist is designed as a quick reference only. Please read your welcome pack thoroughly for detailed instructions on the use of your driver education program. For Students Obtaining a Permit Before 16 Years of Age Colorado teenagers who wish to obtain a permit before turning 16 years old may do so after completing an education requirement to learn about Colorado driving laws and safe driving practices. These students must bypass the Guidelines for Behind-The-Wheel Training that are included in the curriculum, because they can not obtain a permit and drive until they complete the classwork. Log in to our website and click the link to Continue With Online Program Read, watch videos, and take tests online. Students must pass each test with a score of 90%. Finish your required 30 class hours by studying the Colorado Driver Handbook to prepare for the permit test. At the end of the online program, a parent must validate that the student has completed 30 hours of class time. Once the 30 class hours have been entered into the system, the parent may request an Affidavit of Completion. This form requires an original signature from one of our representatives, so it must be mailed to you. Please allow 1 week for mailing. To apply for the permit, you need: Completed Affidavit of Completion of Driver Education (as mentioned above). Sign an Affidavit of Liability and Guardianship in the presence of the DLO* or a notary Raised seal birth certificate or other original government-issued ID Social Security Number for your teen $14.00 fee for the permit Pass a written test and a vision test Determine if you need professional in car instruction (mandatory for Colorado teens who plan to get a license before age 16 1/2) Review Level 1 of the online program and download the Level 1 Guidelines for Behind-The-Wheel Training. After sufficient practice, administer a Level 1 driving evaluation. If the evaluation score is 90% or better, proceed to Level 2. Enter the hours driven on a Colorado Driving Log. Complete the in-car phase of each level evaluating for a score of 90% or better before graduating to the next level. Remember to log the driving hours. Colorado students are required to log 50 total hours of supervised driving time. Ten (10) of those hours must be driven at night. To apply for the license you need: Your valid learners permit Proof of address Completion certificate for 6 hours professional instruction (if obtaining license before age 16 1/2) To hold the permit for 1 full year To be at least 16 years old A log of 50 total driving hours, at least 10 of which at night Pass a driving skills test at the DLO* (by appointment) or at an NDT test center (for $40.00) * Driver License Office

At the end of the online program, a parent must validate that the student has completed 30 hours of class time and 50 hours of driving time. COLORADO STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTION GUIDE Step 1: Verify that you have the proper login credentials All enrollees have access to our online program. Access to the online program requires a login ID/customer ID and password (provided on your receipt). Your ID is a 5 or 6 digit number. Your password is your 8 digit date of birth formatted YYYYMMDD. Step 2: Become Familiar with All Program Steps Colorado driving laws differ according to age groups. In order to understand the requirements for your teen and the options for other age groups, please read this guide in its entirety. Step 3: Which Came First: the Program or the Permit? Colorado 15 and 15 1/2 year old teens have different permitting requirements than Colorado teens age 16 and older. Select your age group below to determine your first steps for getting a program. Age 15 and 15 1/2: The Program 15 and 15 1/2 year-olds in Colorado must complete an educational requirement to qualify for a permit. The self-paced driver education you have enrolled in qualifies teens in both age groups for a permit once they have finished the program and received their Affidavit of Completion. If you are obtaining the permit at age 15 or 15 1/2, you may begin the program online by logging in with your 5 (or 6) digit ID number and 8 digit password. Read Level 1 Watch the Level 1 video Pass the Level 1 test with a score of 90% or better Skip the Guidelines for Behind The Wheel Training - you will not use these until you get the permit. Repeat the above steps with Levels 2 through 7 Study the Colorado Driver Handbook to prepare for the permit test Request your Affidavit of Completion and proceed to Step 4 Age 16 and Older: The Permit Colorado teens age 16 and older are not required to show completion of driver education before they apply for a permit. These teens should begin with a study of the Colorado Driver Handbook to prepare for the permit test, then proceed to Step 4. Step 4: To the Driver License Office (DLO) for the Learners Permit Collect the following documents to take to the DLO: Affidavit of Completion of Driver Education (age 15 and 15 1/2 only) Affidavit of Liability and Guardianship - Parent should sign at the DLO or sign in the presence of a notary public Original Raised seal birth certificate or other approved proof of age and ID (see driver handbook) Proof of Social Security Number for your teen DLO fee for the permit

Your teenager will be administered the Colorado Permit Test and a vision test. Teenagers with special needs may be required to show evidence that they are physically able to drive. Step 5: Complete the Program Colorado teens are required to hold a permit for one full year and drive at least 50 hours under the supervision of a parent or guardian (at least 10 of those hours must be driven at night). Your driver education program includes guidelines for the 50 hours of supervised driving. Professional Behind-The-Wheel (BTW) training is not required unless the driver license applicant is younger than 16 1/2. Age 15 and 15 1/2: BTW Training 15 and 15 1/2 year-olds in Colorado may begin their supervised in-car instruction once they have obtained a permit. BTW guidelines are available at the end of each level. Parents should read through the guidelines and follow them to prepare the teen to pass a driving evaluation. Teens should pass a driving evaluation before moving to the next level of driving. When all supervised BTW hours are complete, update the online program with your 50 driving hours. Students who obtain a permit between age 15 and 15 1/2 may desire to apply for a license before age 16 1/2. In order to do so, these students must complete 6 hours of professional on-road training through a school like NDT. We offer professional on-road training from any of our office locations. Please call 800-942-2050 for additional information. Age 16 and Older: Concurrent Training Colorado teens age 16 and older should work through the program in a concurrent training format. That means they should complete class study and supervised BTW training hand-in-hand. Begin the program online by logging in with your 5 (or 6) digit ID number and 8 digit password. Read Level 1 Watch the Level 1 video Pass the Level 1 test with a score of 90% or better Conduct supervised driving according to the Guidelines for Behind The Wheel Training Pass the Level 1 Driver Evaluation Repeat the above steps with Levels 2 through 7 Submit class and driving hours and request the certificate of completion for insurance purposes Step 6: Certificate of Completion Upon completion of Level 7, you may apply for your certificate of completion. In order to provide your certificate for insurance purposes, we need the following information: Passing test scores for all 7 levels. (Scores must be 90% or higher) Parent Validation of 30 Class Hours Parent Validation of 50 Driving Hours Students using the online program may submit their hours online through the last page of the online program.

Step 7: Applying for the License Take the following items with you to the DLO for the teen s driver license: Valid Permit held for at least one year Proof of residence address-one of the following: Utility bill, Credit card statement, Pay stub or earnings statement, Rent receipt, Phone bill, Transcript or report card from an accredited school, Bank statement, Mortgage document, Tax document, Homeowner s/renter s insurance policy, Vehicle registration Driving Logs showing 50 total driving hours and at least 10 night driving hours Teens under age 16 1/2 will also need to turn in a certificate of completion for 6 hours of professional on-road training. Colorado teens must pass a driving skills test to convert a permit to a license. The driving skills test is described in detail on page 27 of the Colorado Driver Handbook. Helpful driving tips can also be found in the How to Pass a Driving Skills Test video on the last page of Level 7 online. You may schedule an appointment for a test at the DLO or call us at 719-266-4700 to inquire about paying to take a test sooner through NDT.
