TAKARI PRIMARY SCHOOL Takari is an Aboriginal word meaning 'Tomorrow'. Established in 1969, Takari Primary School is located in the northern suburbs of Perth in the Balcatta area. We cater for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. With a population of 170 students, we are a small school where every child is known and valued. The Takari staff bring considerable experience to the school and the programs offered, and are all committed to providing a supportive, safe and nurturing environment for all students. Takari has a strong focus on the development of students' numeracy and literacy skills, and has developed learning programs that use whole school strategies and planning processes that address individual student needs, and provide small group learning experiences and explicit whole class instruction. The school offers specialist programs in Physical Education, Languages (Italian), Music and Visual Arts. A spacious air conditioned library and an enclosed undercover area which accommodates the whole school for assemblies were built in 2011. Takari has general, specialist and small group withdrawal classrooms, many of which were refurbished in 2016. The grounds and playground areas are continually being improved and the oval was recently reticulated. We believe that students reach their full educational potential when they are happy, healthy and safe. At Takari, we achieved this through the collaborative practices of all involved - students, staff, families and community. At Takari, our children are the nation s tomorrow. STAFF PROFILE In 2016, Takari Primary School employed a total of twenty seven teaching and non teaching staff. The staff bring considerable experience and stability to the school with many being employed at Takari for more than ten years. All teaching staff meet the professional requirements to teach in Western Australian schools and are registered with the Teacher Registration Board. Eighteen of the twenty Year 6 students nominated for Student Council and delivered speeches in front of the school community. Staff and students from Year 5 and Year 6 then voted for their preferred representatives. The speeches were all of a high standard and voting for the six available positions was very close. The Student Council met regularly with the Deputy Principal to discuss strategies to help overcome any problems in the playground. They helped implement the Bye Bye Bullying campaign and introduce a special Buddy Bench. The Student Council also reported to the school at fortnightly assemblies, announcing Golden Ticket awards, and organised fundraising activities, collecting donations for charities. They did an outstanding job of hosting the annual ANZAC Assembly. Lily Hill Katia Paolino Aksah Mathew Ritesh Dindyal Seth Betti Dante McGee Head Girl Head Boy

2016 SCHOOL COUNCIL Takari Primary School has an active School Council. Elections for positions on the Council are held each year, with four of the seven positions being filled by parents of students at the school. In 2016 the School Council members were: Staff Representatives: Mr D Tennant, Mrs A Carpenter, Mrs K Williams and Mrs E Hill Parent Representatives: Mr B Butler (Chair), Mrs C McGee, Mr Les Lewis and Mrs T Burgess P&C Representative: Ms K Sterbucl Community Representative: Mrs A Parker In 2016, the School Council supported the school community, participating in: financial planning, including endorsing and reviewing the 2016 budget. reviewing and ratifying the 2017 voluntary contributions, charges and personal requirements. reviewing student performance (NAPLAN) and data from parent and staff satisfaction surveys. Reviewing and endorsing school policies. supporting school projects, including the reintroduction of the Year 6 Camp. The School Council also considered making a submission to become an Independent Public School (IPS) in 2017. Information on IPS was distributed, a community forum held and the School Council conducted an audit to determine its readiness to transform into a School Board. Although surveys indicated 100% staff and 85% parent support for IPS, the School Council decided not to apply this year, and to work on its governance to be better positioned to make a submission for IPS in 2017 for commencement in 2018. 2016 P&C The Takari P&C is a small group of dedicated parents who work hard to support Takari Primary School. In 2016, the P&C started the year off with a very successful Meet & Greet afternoon, where staff, students and parents came together for a sausage sizzle and fun activities, including the very popular dunking tank. The P&C also coordinated a bulb fundraiser and school planting project, the Easter raffle, Mothers and Fathers Day stalls, Entertainment books, student disco, parent Bogan Trivia night and Christmas raffle. The P&C introduced a twist on the annual Lapathon, turning the event into the very popular Tough Takari Kids obstacle course. Students ran a one kilometre course, conquering ten different obstacles, including the combat crawl and giant slippery slide. The P&C raise an amazing $17 700 in 2016 and supported the school with the Mathletics program, the two school bands, graduation activities and various special events. They subsidised every Year 6 student $50 for the school camp and purchased and installed bench seating around the covered area and picnic seating in the playground. The P&C also operated the canteen, school uniform shop, school banking and Safety House services. The Takari school community is fortunate to have such an active and supportive P&C.

2016 NAPLAN PERMORMANCE All students in years three and five participated in the National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). Although the NAPLAN assessments can be narrow in their coverage, they are regarded as the best tool currently available for comparing students and schools across Australia. NAPLAN results can also be used to track the progress of individual students, year group cohorts and the whole school. Like Schools data is used to compare Takari s achievement against other schools from similar socio economic areas.
