CST Readiness: Targeting Bubble Students Participants will identify students that are on the threshold to CST proficiency, determine a focus for instruction and test preparation for the CST, and develop targeted assessments to determine which standards students continue to struggle with. Participants will leave this training with an Intervention Group of CST bubble students and a target cluster to guide instruction. Identify CST Cluster Targets Use OARS CST Cluster Analysis to compare district, school, and class averages compared to CA Minimally Proficient. Identify CST Bubble Students Use OARS CST Scale Score Report and Intervention Groups feature to group CST Bubble Students. Analyze Local Assessments Use OARS Local Assessments or INSPECT Reports to find focus clusters for instruction. Diagnose using INSPECT Use INSPECT in OARS as a tool to continue to diagnose, treat, and perform progress monitoring. Training Module: CST Readiness: Targeting Bubble Students Handout 1 Understanding the CST Blueprints, Key Clusters and Key Standards Understanding the CST for your grade level will help guide you in making instructional choices. Clusters are weighted differently in each grade level. Narrowing the focus for instruction by targeting the clusters with the most weight and where students are struggling the most will make your time spent in intervention more effective. Standard CST Cluster is also known as the Strand. Which of these standards has the most items on the assessment? What percentage of the assessment is tested in this cluster? Which cluster/strand in your grade level has the most percentage of items tested on the CST? Which standard in that cluster/strand has the most number of questions? Training Module: CST Readiness: Targeting Bubble Students Handout 3 Identifying CST Bubble Students Identify and create an Intervention Group of bubble students based on a CST scale score of 330-360. The title of this Intervention Group should include the grade level, content area, and a reference to the CST bubble students. You can do this for any content area tested on the CST. OARS Navigation!Reports Tab!CST Scale Score Report!Enter Filter Option 330-360!Click on the All Students check box!click on Create New Group!Enter group name and click OK How many students do you have in this Intervention Group? You may choose to record their names here or on Handout 5.
Training Module: CST Readiness: Targeting Bubble Students Handout 4 Use INSPECT Assessments to Practice CST Questions, Diagnose Student Needs and Monitor Progress of Interventions OARS Navigation You can use the INSPECT item bank to create tests specific to your chosen target standards. You can then use this assessment data to further diagnose student needs or monitor the progress of standard mastery. Generate a test for your target cluster with at least 10 questions. Items associated with a passage should have more than one question. Save your test when finished.!assessments Tab!INSPECT Sub-Tab!Create New!Select Subject!Enter Description!Select Grade!Click on Automatic Build!Select the standards you choose to focus on.!select the number of items you would like for each standard.!scroll down to end of the page and click Add Items!Save Test When will you give this assessment to your intervention group? How will you use the results to further guide your instruction?

You may only want to focus on key standards.!view All Items!View Item Info Identify Target Cluster and Standards for CST Bubble Group Identify the needs of your bubble students with an item analysis report. This will allow you to analyze your intervention group data and identify the cluster target as well as standards in that cluster to focus on during instruction. What is the focus cluster for this intervention group? What is the focus standard(s) for this intervention group? How can you use an item analysis report and the CST Blueprint to target areas of focus for intervention? How will this help you plan for instruction?
Training Module: CST Readiness: Targeting Bubble Students Handout 6 Webinar Training Goal: Participants will identify students that are on the threshold to CST proficiency, determine a focus for instruction and develop targeted assessments to determine which standards students continue to struggle with. Participants will leave this training with an Intervention Group of CST bubble students and a target cluster to guide instruction. CST Bubble Group: Student Names: (see Intervention Group details and Handout 2) Target Cluster: (see Item Analysis Report by Intervention Group by Cluster and Handout 3) Target Standards: (see Item Analysis Report by Intervention Group by Standard and Handout 3) Plan for Intervention: Next steps: Create an INSPECT test for either ELA or Math bubble Intervention Group based on the target cluster. Give the INSPECT test created to your CST bubble Intervention Group and scan the answer sheets. After answer sheets are scanned, create an item analysis report to identify the standard that the bubble students need more work with. Follow-up questions for a professional development or grade level meeting: How many students are in your bubble group for ELA? for Math? Other content areas? Are there common CST cluster targets across the grade level? across the school? When and how often do you plan to meet with this group of students? What are your instructional goals for this target intervention group? What materials do you plan to use with this group? How will you monitor student progress of the interventions you are providing?
