Donnelly Course Evaluation Process The Rules 2 evaluations will be maintained. The Course Evaluation ESL will apply to all IE00x-3 through IE00x-5, and all EL00x-3 through EL00x-5 courses. The standard Course Evaluation will apply to all courses not beginning with IE 00x or EL 00x. Evaluations will be enabled by ethink 14 days prior to the end date of the class and continue through the end date of the class. ** NOTE as of 4/4/2012 per Frances evaluations now turn on 30 days prior to the end date of the class. Evaluations are fully anonymous. Only one evaluation per student per course can be completed. Evaluations run from 9am on the day they open until 12 midnight the day they close. Evaluation results become available to faculty the day after grades are due for the relevant Year/Term/Session (Moodle Course Category). permission of ethink Education. 2

From the Student Perspective Once evaluations for a particular course are open, when the student logs into Moodle and into their course, they will see the Course Evaluation block in the upper right-hand corner. The link will read Course Evaluation for a traditional evaluation and Course Evaluation ESL for an ESL evaluation. When the student clicks on the link, they will receive instructions on completing the evaluation and then can click the Answer the questions link at the bottom of the instructions: permission of ethink Education. 3

The student will then receive 4 pages of questions as shown below: Note these are not full pages in the screenshots, just the top portions to give you an idea. The bottom of each page has the following buttons: permission of ethink Education. 4

permission of ethink Education. 5

Once the student has completed the evaluation, they press the Submit your answers button at the bottom of the page. The Course Evaluation for this course has now been submitted. The student s work is complete. permission of ethink Education. 6

From the Faculty Perspective When the faculty member accesses their course, they see an additional block on the right-hand side called Course Evaluation Reports. This block is not visible to students. This block contains links to the Course Evaluation Related reports available to teachers. permission of ethink Education. 7

The first link in the block is How to Use this Block. This link takes the teacher to set of instructions for using the block as shown below: This provides explanations for each of the reports as well as login instructions. When the instructor clicks on the report link they will be prompted for their username and password. See the instructions in the screen shot above for how this needs to be entered. The first report is Completed Course Evaluations. When the instructor clicks on the name of the report in the block, it opens a new screen with the following report information: This report is available to the instructor DURING the time the evaluation is open. It is designed to allow the instructor to see how many of their students have completed the evaluation. permission of ethink Education. 8

The remaining reports only become available to faculty the day after final grades are due for the Year/Term/Session the course is in. Until then, if they click on the link for any of these reports, they will see a blank report. Once the reports become available, they can be accessed by the instructor logging into Moodle, into their course, and clicking on the link for each report from the Course Evaluation Reports block. The Analysis report is shown below: Reports can have multiple pages. Note the page toggle in the upper left hand corner. This report is designed to export easily to Excel which can be done by dropping down the Actions box in the upper-left corner. permission of ethink Education. 9

The next report is the Analysis Graphical: This report shows the same results as the Analysis report, but in a graphical format. Any of these reports can also be printed using the printer button in the Toolbar or exported to a PDF. The last report available to teachers is the Student Responses report. This report is designed to show each student s course evaluation in full. Below is page 1 of the report, which provides a link to each response with an anonymous Response # link. permission of ethink Education. 10

When the user clicks on one for the responses, the complete evaluation is shown as follows: permission of ethink Education. 11

These are the reports for faculty. Faculty only access reports via Moodle, never via the Report Manager directly. permission of ethink Education. 12

From the Moodle Admin Perspective Moodle Administrators will have access to reports via the Report Manager. http://reports.donnelly.edu/reports/pages/folder.aspx Once the user logs on, they will see a folder called Moodle as shown below: From there, navigate into Moodle > Admin Reports. Here you have access to 2 reports: Completed Course Evaluations by YT and Faculty - Shows counts of number of completed Course Evaluations for all Year/Term's and Faculty. Course Evaluation Results All Shows Course Evaluation results for all courses. Note the Average Response column on the far-right. This will average responses from each student s evaluation to give the instructor an overall score for that course. 1 is considered high. The toggle buttons next to Instructor Name, Course, Percentage Completed, and Average Response in the report header can be used to resort the report by any of those items. For example, you may want to toggle the average response to bring everyone with a high average response to the top and then look at those in detail. For additional details on a particular course/instructor combination, you can click on the underlined course name in the report. This will bring up a more detailed Graphical Report with responses for each question for that particular course only. Note this data cannot be seen until grades have been turned in for each Year/Term/Session. ---------- These reports are designed to assist administrators in answering questions or troubleshooting issues related to course evaluations. Administrators can also run any of the Course Evaluation Reports for individual courses directly from the Moodle using the Course Evaluation Reports block. permission of ethink Education. 13
