Introduction Pre-Training Intel created the Intel Learning Series to address ongoing education technology needs around the world. The Intel Learning Series is a collection of hardware, software, and services designed specifically for education. Intel spearheads the research and design specs; the Intel Learning Series is brought to life by local technology companies who customize the products and services for their markets. This document will discuss the standard software stacks for Windows * XP including an introduction, how to use, and other useful information for LOEMs to understand the software stacks easily and quickly. SMART Response Pre-Training From an administrator s perspective, SMART Notebook consists of two components: SMART Response (Teacher-side): An application that resides on the teachers' computer, and allow them to connect with students and start a quiz. SMART Response (Student-side): An application that resides on the students' computer, included in SMART Notebook SE, and allow students to connect with teachers and take a quiz. 7

Installation Teacher-side 1. Copy the installer package to the target machine, double click IntelClassroomTeacherSetup.exe 2. Click Next to move forward. 3. When you see the following window with Complete(Default) or Custom, please select Custom. Tips: Select Custom, then select which program feature you want to install. 13
Installation Teacher-side 4. If Custom is selected, click checkbox to add or remove installation item, then click Next to install the program to the default folder, or click Change to install it to a different folder. 14

Create a SMART Teacher File 1. Launch SMART Response a. From Start Menu Click start > All Programs > SMART Technologies > SMART Response > Teacher Tools b. From Tray Icon After SMART Response was installed and then PC was restarted, the SMART Response icon will appear in the notification area. Click the icon,and then select Click here to start a class. 27

Start Class For Quiz (Teacher-side) Before starting a class session, you must decide which mode your system will operate on, Anonymous mode or Sign In mode. Note: Both modes are OK. If want to know the difference between them, please refer to Help file in SMART Response Teacher Tools with an Internet Connection. 1. Open Teacher Tools in Gradebook view 2. Select one class in the Gradebook area on the left. 3. Click Start Class. 51
Start Class For Quiz (Student-side) After Class Starts in Teacher Side, The name of the SMART Teacher file and class information will appear in the students SMART Notebook SE Quick Links tab, and Students can click the class name or click Connect Manually to connect to the teacher. (See Picture1) 1. If students click the class name, they should enter their own Student ID, then they can connect to the teacher s PC. (This is the recommended method.) 2. If students click Connect Manually, they should enter IP address, Port number and their own Student ID, then they can connect to the teacher s PC. 1 2 Note: If Connect Manually is used, Teacher should click Connect students manually first to get the IP address and Port number.(see Picture2) 52

Note: If students disconnect from your class when Sign In is locked, they re unable to sign in again until you select Unlock Sign In. 53

Generate Reports You can export students or class performance reports at any time after your assessments are completed. You can tailor the reports to include all classes or select classes. You can also create reports for individual student or for all students in the selected classes at one time. 71

Q & A Recommendation on Quiz Paper s Size For Quiz Paper, recommend that: (1) Do not use more than 50 questions in one quiz paper. (2) For each quiz paper, do not insert more than 25 pictures, and for each picture s size, suggest to use < 100KB. (3) If want to insert Flash content in quiz paper, do not use more than 40 questions, and do not insert more than 2 flashes, and for each flash, suggest to use < 2MB. 82
Q & A Tips on Quiz Paper Delivery from Teacher While teacher send out quiz paper to students during quiz. After students received quiz paper, sometimes (>50%) teacher will disconnect from all students, but will automatically reconnect to all students in about 5 10 minutes (based on network performance). Impact: Teacher will see a prompt box said You're no longer connected to any of your students..., and see all students status is disconnected. In students side, nothing happens, and even their status are connected. Workaround: No workaround Solution: While teacher disconnect to students, please do NOT close NOTEBOOK, students could continue doing quiz. 83
