Emergency Care If you have an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. In an emergency, you can go out of the network to get care. You should call your PCP as soon as you can after the emergency. Then, your treatment can be coordinated by your PCP. All follow-up care must be provided or arranged by a network doctor. Choosing a Primary Care Physician (PCP) There are several types of PCPs in this directory. Each covered family member may choose a different PCP in UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Except in an emergency, your PCP and staff will give or manage all of your health care. Changing your PCP. If you want to change your PCP, call Member Services. They will help you pick a new PCP. You may change your PCP at any time. You may also contact a doctor to find out if the doctor contracts with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. When you call, be sure to mention UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Ask if the doctor is taking new patients. If your PCP leaves the UnitedHealthcare Community Plan network, they will call and tell us. We will send you a letter within 15 calendar days of us being told by the doctor. Seeing another doctor or specialist. Your PCP might want you to go to a specialist. A specialist is a doctor who treats a special problem, like a dermatologist or a heart doctor. Your doctor will help you find the right specialist. If you have a complex illness, you may need to see the specialist many times. You may see the specialist as often as needed. If you have complex care needs, a specialist can be the PCP. If you need this, call Member Services. We will help you find a specialist who can meet your needs. Out-of-Network Providers You or your PCP might decide that you need to see a doctor or provider that is not in our network. Your PCP may need to call us to approve these services before they will be covered. This is called a Prior Authorization. Read more about prior authorization in the member handbook. You do not need a prior authorization for family planning or in an emergency. Women's Health Specialist You have direct access to a network women's health provider for family planning, routine and preventive care. Quality Care Is Important Not all health care is equal, and that can affect the care you receive. According to one study, adults receive the recommended medical treatment only 55 percent of the time. 1 Studies show that poor quality care can lead to more health problems and surgeries. It can also lead to more hospitalizations and a higher chance of the wrong diagnosis. Your Choices Make a Difference People who are involved in their health care decisions have fewer hospital stays and emergency visits. They also use preventive care more often and have lower medical costs. You can take an active part in your health. Seek out and choose quality care. We Can Help You Find Quality Care UnitedHealthcare Community Plan provides information about doctors who meet quality care guidelines. This information can help you make more informed health care choices. UnitedHealthcare Community Plan displays the words Quality Doctor with the symbol in our provider search tools and MO HealthNet Managed Care member directories. These doctors have met Quality guidelines. Doctors with the Quality Doctor symbol: Met guidelines for quality care. Doctors without the Quality rating symbol: Did not meet guidelines for quality care, Did not have enough health plan claims data to be evaluated, Do not have a rated specialty, or The doctor's rating is in process. Quality Ratings Are Viewable for Doctors in the Following Specialties: Allergy Cardiology Endocrinology Family Medicine Internal Medicine Nephrology Obstetrics and Gynecology Pediatrics Pulmonology Rheumatology Quality Ratings Are Based on the UnitedHealth Premium Program The guidelines we use to rate doctors are based on standards from the UnitedHealth Premium program. This program has been in existence since 2005. The Quality rating uses evidence-based measures from national organizations. These measures define how a patient should be treated to get the best care for his or her condition. At least five unique patients and 20 quality measure opportunities (the number of times a measurement or standard could have been met) across all conditions or procedures are required to measure quality. In order to meet the quality standard, doctors must perform at or above 50th percentile of all doctors assessed. Quality measures for inpatient procedures are severity adjusted by 3M APR DRG severity of illness level. Doctors Can Appeal Their Quality Ratings Doctors have an opportunity to review the data used to create their Quality rating. Doctors can also ask us to reconsider the data that was used. Important Notes About Quality Ratings Quality ratings are a guide. Quality ratings are a resource for informational purposes only. Quality ratings are displayed in UnitedHealthcare online provider search tools and MO HealthNet Managed Care member directories. Quality rating information is a guide to choosing a doctor and may be used as one of many factors you consider when choosing a doctor. If you already have a doctor, you may also wish to confer with him or her for advice on selecting other doctors. Doctor Quality ratings have a risk of error and should not be the sole basis for selecting a doctor. Only individual doctors that meet UnitedHealthcare Community Plan Quality ratings criteria, or doctors in identified specialties who are part of medical groups that meet UnitedHealthcare Community Plan's Quality rating criteria for group practices and who have enough claims data for analysis, may be included. All doctors who contract with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan have met credentialing requirements. Regardless of Quality rating, plan enrollees have access to doctors in the UnitedHealthcare Community Plan network as described in their benefit plan.
