HCTM/T3 Regional Conference Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 Page2 Elementary, Middle,, Pre-Service Elementary, Middle Grades, Algebra, General Math Closing the Math Achievement Gap with Technology and Data-Driven Instruction in I CAN Learn Classrooms In order to stay competitive in a global economy, it is critical to get US students through the Algebra Gateway and move them on to a higher-level mathematics. In light of the persistent Math Achievement Gap in this country, this is a daunting challenge. This presentation describes how some US schools are using a computer based math curriculum and data-driven instruction to close the Math Achievement Gap. Jeffrey Hildebrandt I CAN Learn Education Systems, INC Elementary, Middle,, Pre-Service Elementary, Middle Grades Math, SPED Math, Algebra Nspiring Your Students Participants will see student products and interviews regarding changes in their attitudes and math abilities using the TI-Nspire hand held models. Particpants will also have the opportunity to use the TI-Nspire to explore classroom possibilities for their own classes. Gina Ontai Doreen Elliott/Leilehua High School Moanalua High School Elementary, Pre-Service Elementary Management Tips 101 (for the Elementary Classroom) Are you looking for alternative methods to manage your classroom? Join us to learn and create practical and easy-to-use tips to better provide instruction with process standards imbedded. Stacie Kaichi-Imamura Cheryl Nakamura Salt Lake Elementary and Maemae Elementary Middle,, College/University, Pre-Service Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus Using Multiple Representations to Enhance Students' Understanding of Functions The presenter will use the graphing technology's ability to show multiple representations at the same time to challenge participants to rethink the types of questions that they are asking students to solve. Instead of starting with a symbolic or algebraic representation, start with a table or graph and ask questions to assess their ability to analyze and solve problems using these representations.
