Without a GCE O level qualification, Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) was the only route for me to eventually attain the ACCA qualification. The CAT doesn t focus on your qualification level, rather, it starts you on your journey at the most relevant level through a range of Foundation-level certificates and diplomas which provide the ideal starting point for anyone new to accounting and finance and who doesn t have any formal qualifications. Stand-alone Professional Qualification Students who complete all nine exams, including two specialist options in Foundations in Taxation, Financial Management or Audit, the Foundations in Professionalism module and a year s work experience will gain the CAT qualification. Flexible Progression Pathway Once the first seven core exams are completed, student can either continue their CAT pathway to attain the CAT Qualification or further their academic pursuits by transferring to the ACCA Qualification and start at F4 of the Fundamentals level receiving exemption from the first three papers at this level. Preparatory Course for ACCA Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) The CAT Qualification is awarded on the completion of nine exams, consisting of a suite of awards, including certificates and a diploma. There are flexible entry points with certificates awarded at each level, allowing students to tailor the awards, making them an attractive and relevant choice to employers. Both Diploma and CAT Qualification holders have direct entry to the F4 Fundamentals level of the ACCA Qualification. The CAT Qualification is broadly equivalent to HND level/equivalent to the first year of a degree. Who is this course for? The program is ideal for students who desire to explore a career in accounting and finance or pursue a higher qualification in the same field but have no formal qualifications and/or experience. Course Duration Full-time: 18 months Part-time: 24 months Course Intakes For June examination: January & April For December examinations: July & October Course Assessment You will be given a mock test per paper during course of study, as well as regular homework assignments and in-class exercises. Award of Certificate The Certificate is awarded by ACCA. You must pass the examinations set by ACCA and complete the self-study online module. LSBF CAT Faculty Module Outline FA1 Recording Financial Transactions This module introduces students to the fundamentals of preparing and recording financial documentation from originating documents and processing ledger transactions up to the trial balance stage. It also covers relevant banking procedures associated with bookkeeping, maintaining and reconciling cash and petty cash records and preparing the journal and relevant control accounts and identifying and correcting errors. FMA Foundations in Management Accounting This module introduces students to elements of management accounting which are used to make and support decisions. The syllabus starts by introducing the nature, the source and purpose of cost accounting and the costing techniques used in business which are essential for any management accountant. The syllabus then looks at the preparation and use of budgeting and standard costing and variance analysis as essential tools for planning and controlling business costs. The syllabus concludes with an introduction to measuring and monitoring the performance of an organisation. Ghan Shyam Dubey Students will gain from Ghan s extensive and valuable working experience ranging from external audit to investment banking. He started his career with KPMG and then progressed to investment banks like Credit Suisse and Royal Bank of Scotland. He knows exactly what it takes for students to succeed. Domnic Danaraj Peter A highly experienced lecturer, Domnic has been teaching a wide variety of accountancy courses since 1990. Students will love his highly-engaging teaching style, coupled with his signature humour which he brings to classes to make them more interesting. MA1 Management Information This module introduces students to basic costing principles and techniques and the tools with which to use these principles and techniques. The syllabus starts by introducing business organisations and the specific role of the management accountant within the organisation. The next section deals with cost classification followed by the identification of sources of information and coding, to ensure that cost information is properly classified. FA2 Maintaining Financial Records This module introduces students to the fundamentals of Maintaining Financial Records, explaining its context and purpose with reference to accounts preparation. The syllabus concentrates on the double-entry system and on recording, processing, and reporting business transactions and events, including the specific accounting for fixed assets. It covers the use of the extended trial balance and how to identify and correct errors, including the reconciliation of the control accounts, and the posting of period end adjustments as well as preparation of final accounts for sole traders and for partnerships. FFA Foundations in Financial Accounting This module introduces students to the fundamentals of the regulatory framework relating to accounts preparation and to the qualitative characteristics of useful information. The syllabus then covers drafting financial statements and principles of accounts preparation. It concentrates on recording, processing, and reporting business transactions and events. Kevin Lee Kevin is an experience OBU mentor. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Economics and Management from University of London, in association with The London School of Economics and Political Science and is a full member of ACCA and ICPAS. In addition, he also has an executive diploma in directorship from the Singapore Management University and the Singapore Institute of Directors. Khryon Goh Khyron has years of experience teaching the CAT and ACCA programmes. Besides specialising in Taxation (F6), he is also a versatile lecturer and has taught a variety of subjects; such as Accountant in Business (F1), Management accounting (MA1 & MA2). He has extensive corporate experience and was a former auditor with Ernst & Young. MA2 Managing Costs and Finance Managing Costs and Finance introduces student to costing and financing principles and techniques, and to elements of management accounting which are used to make and support decisions. The syllabus starts by introducing candidates to management information clearly distinguishing it from financial accounting information and the basics of recording costs in management accounting. FAU Foundations in Audit This module introduces students to the nature and purpose of an audit, including the duties and liability of auditors, and the regulation that auditors must adhere to. The syllabus then covers the areas relating to the process of an audit of financial statements starting at audit planning and risk assessment, recording and evaluating internal control, as well as tests of controls, audit evidence and the use substantive procedures. FTX Foundations in Taxation This module introduces students to the subject of taxation and provides the core knowledge of the underlying principles and the major technical areas of taxation, as they affect the activities of individuals and businesses. Candidates are introduced to the rationale behind and the functions of the tax system. FFM Foundations in Financial Management Foundations in Financial Management introduces students to different ways of managing finance within an organisation with the aim of enhancing business performance. This includes planning and controlling of cash flow in both the short and long term, how to manage capital investment decisions and managing trade credit for an efficient flow of cash. Kishore Menon Kishore started his career with a medium-sized firm of Chartered Accountants in London and later worked as an auditor with KPMG. He has held many senior-level appointments including General Manager, Director and Managing Director. Kishore has more than seven years of teaching experience in auditing, financial management and financial accounting. Andrew Goh Andrew Goh is an experience lecturer in business and accounting topics. Students will benefit from Andrew s extensive corporate experience. He has held senior regional positions in several MNCs and managed a local SME from its early inception to its successful IPO on the SGX. Andrew has a degree in economics and management studies, and is a member of CIMA, ICPAS and CPA (Australia). FAB Foundations in Accountant in Business Foundations of Accounting in Business introduces students who may not have a business background, to the business, which as an entity is made up of people and systems that interact with the environment and with each other. The syllabus begins with examining the purpose and types of business which exist, the key stakeholders and the rights and responsibilities that businesses have in connection with them, exploring the external influences that affect the business in its environment.

Fee Protection Under The Insurance Scheme (FPS Insurance Scheme) The Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) serves to protect students fees in the event a private education institution is unable to continue operation due to insolvency, and/or regulatory closure. The FPS also protects students, if the private education institution fails to pay penalties or return fees to the students arising from judgment made against it by the Singapore courts. Medical Insurance LSBF has appointed AXA Insurance as the medical insurance provider. It is compulsory for all students to have medical insurance coverage for their hospitalisation and related medical treatments throughout their course duration. Singapore citizens, permanent citizens and international students (not on the Student Pass) and Students under corporate sponsorship or corporate agreement between the private education institution and their sponsor organisations can be exempted from the medical insurance scheme if they can show proof that they are already covered by their own medical insurance.
