Juliann Igo TESL 507 App Name: 620 Irregular English Verbs This app provides learners with an extensive list of irregular verbs in English and how they are conjugated in different tenses. The app provides a definition for the verb, its base form, the past simple form of the verb, and the past participle form of the verb. There is also an audio option, where the word is spoken aloud so the student understands how to pronounce the verb. There is also a translation option for English to a variety of other languages. Pricing Information: $0.99 This easy- to- navigate app is ideal for English language learners. Many ELLs overgeneralize verb rules in English and apply inappropriate affixes to irregular verbs. With this app, learners are able to simply choose the word and learn its conjugation, as well as the pronunciation. This helps learners metacognitively recognize the irregularities in certain verbs and can begin to memorize the irregular verb forms of these words. 3-5 Expanding

Students are physically building the words themselves by dragging letters into the correct space. It not only helps with sight word recognition, but also with listening skills. There is positive reinforcement sounds to indicate a correct answer, which helps keep learners engaged in the game. Bridging, Expanding

App Name: ESL Express: Words Frequently Confused This app provides a list of words that are frequenty confused in the English language and a lengthy description of the true meaning of each word. Pricing Information: $0.99 This is a good app for ELLs because it provides an interactive and fun way to learn Dolch s sight words, rather than just memorizing the list. They get to improve their listening skills, as well as their reading skills. There is also a competitive factor in the game, which may motivate students who are competition- oriented. The games are visually stimulating and kinesthetic to adapt to different learning styles. K- 2 Emerging, Beginning

App Name: Idioms (Lite) This app helps English language learners navigate confusing idioms in the English language. The app uses illustrations and explanations to explain common phrases that do not translate exactly into other languages. When you click on an idiomatic phrase, both the meaning of the phrase and an example of its use in context appear. The free version is limited, but when you download the full version, you have access to the entire dictionary. There is a portion to track your progress and to test yourself. After testing yourself, your data is shown on a graph. It also allows you to save favorites. Pricing Information: Free (Lite) and $2.99 for the full app Because idioms do not translate word- for- word in other languages, ELLs are often confused about these unique phrases. This app is especially useful because of the illustrations it provides to give the learner more comprehensible input. Expanding/Bridging
