POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE BUSINESS UNIT REPORTING TO LOCATION e-learning Coordinator Academic Pathways Manager, e-learning Nirimba DATE January 2015 CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The e-learning Coordinator will build the College s capacity to deliver curriculum in a range of elearning options (on line). They will provide support for the implementation of e-learning strategies, and work with teaching staff to develop sustainable high quality online learning activities appropriate for the discipline, incorporating sound educational design principles, and consistent with the Colleges policies. ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT UWSCollege Pty Limited is a not-for-profit company, wholly-owned by the University of Western Sydney. The College was created to provide academic pathways to the University, complemented by English language and other professional programs for Australian and International students. Created in 2006, the College has its antecedents in English language and Foundation studies programs offered by various University Schools and entities since the 1980s. UWSCollege is divided into two broad operational areas: Teaching and Learning which is responsible for the delivery of our various programs, and Support Services which provides the planning capability and support services to our educational mission. Within these broad divisions are five business units: Academic Pathways English Language Programs Widening Participation and Professional & Community Programs College Registrar Corporate Services UWSCollege operates across a number of campuses in Greater Western Sydney. English Language Programs and VETAB Programs are offered from the UWS Westmead campus; Academic Pathways programs are available on the Nirimba Education Precinct at Quakers Hill, at our Westmead and Bankstown campuses, and at our Outreach campus. English Language Programs will be available at Bankstown from 2015. 1
CONSTRAINT/AUTHORITY LEVEL The position operates in accordance with UWSCollege policies, and the requirements of relevant legislation, awards and agreements. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Collaborate with faculty staff in the development of curriculum for online delivery Assist academic staff to design sustainable high quality e-learning and online assessment activities incorporating sound educational design principles that are consistent with UWSCollege Academic Standards and Assessment Framework and UWS and College policies. This will involve working with curriculum experts to modify existing curriculum materials to be compatible with an online environment, as well as creating new materials. Develop training resources and facilitate groups of staff in learning how to use the institutional online learning management system. Maintain quality assurance processes and protect the intellectual property in e-learning materials developed for the College. Manage project tasks, coordinate with faculty and deliver e-learning projects on time and to budget Act as an ambassador for online learning at UWSCollege, and promote the program by sharing ideas and information with a diverse range of stakeholders to facilitate the achievement of the College s e-learning goals. SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training. 2. Recent experience teaching adult learners. 3. Demonstrated experience in providing pedagogically informed practical advice to teaching staff regarding the design and delivery of curricula online. 4. Able to integrate adult learning theory and instructional design methodology into an appropriate mix of delivery media and methods 5. Demonstrated knowledge of and proven experience in the use of Learning Management Systems e.g. Blackboard Learn 9 and experience in a range of online development tools 6. Demonstrated ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously, and to respond to the needs of each project and working to established priorities in a multi-campus environment. 7. Excellent communication (written, oral, negotiation) and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate pedagogical and technological concepts to diverse groups in a team environment 8. Ability to travel between campuses and a preparedness to work on multiple campuses. 2
Multi Campus Given the multi-campus responsibility associated with this role, the position is required to travel across all UWSCollege campus frequently. This is an inherent requirement of the role.
