WE SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE DON T WE? PRESENT STATE: College asks: What do you need? Manufacturing says: We need this! College says: That s what we teach! Students takes classes, get good grades and go to work... SKILLS LEARNED SKILLS NEEDED! (No Common Language) PREFERRED STATE: Common Objectives clearly identify & prioritize: For Manufacturing... What technicians do For Colleges... What instructors teach For Students... What they must know SKILLS LEARNED = SKILLS NEEDED! SPEAK a COMMON LANGUAGE: Performance Based Objectives!

IMPROVED ALIGNMENT: SHOP FLOOR SKILLS VALIDATION Student Name: Evaluator: Date completed: Floor Validation of PLCs - Allen Bradley Note: The Student should be given time to familiarize themselves with the Logic found on the GM Systems. The course at HFC has covered the fundamentals of PLC logic programs but specific GM application programs and I/O configurations were not available to study. After time has been given to the student to familiarize themselves with the program, the I/O configuration, and the working drawing then the following can be completed. Proficient Not Proficient N/A # Task The student should be able to: 1 Save a program. 2 Demonstrate to the evaluator the ability to search for an input (XIC) and an output (OTE). 3 Demonstrate to the evaluator the ability to recognize internal storage bits. (As opposed to actual outputs) 4 Given a contact from an internal storage bit, use the cross reference utility to locate the OTE controlling the contact. 5 Describe to the evaluator how to force an input and where to enable the force. 6 Demonstrate the ability to locate all forces 7 Explain to the evaluator, how a timer works, how to modify the timed interval, and predict when the timed done and timer timing bits are qualified. 8 Locate in the program at least one example of a sealing circuit. 9 10 Best examples extend beyond the classroom... Shop Floor Skills Validation! After the evaluator has selected several rungs in the program (or a short subroutine) and the student has had time to evaluate, the student will explain the operation of the logic. The student will explain the operation of a one shot and identify at least one logic application that requires it use. Coordination between Course and Floor Work the Best Continuous Improvement approach 11 Given a hardware input, the student will identify all logic elements in the program that relate to that logic element. This input may be mapped or unmapped. (Working drawings may be required.) Note: A Not Proficient rating in any of the above areas will require remediation at HFC. 12 Demonstrate to the evaluator the ability to view the properties of an output module. 13 Use the Controller Tag area, locate a timer. Display to the evaluator the Preset, Accumulator and done bit.

WHY NOT POPULATE STUDENT RESUMEs? 3. WHY NOT CONNECT THE TWO? and, IF PBOs more effectively DESCRIBE THE SKILLS and OBJECTIVES... 4. WHY NOT TRACK AVERAGE TIME to COMPETENCY? 5. WHY NOT MEASURE TRUE LEARNING ACCELERATION?
