Meet Our CAS Students... Negin, Grade 12 In March 2017, three of my fellow classmates, Eni, Christian, Ebenezer, and I created a CAS team under the supervision of our CAS instructor, Mr Neumann. We meet for 40 minutes every Thursday at 1.40pm until 2.20pm. During our meetings, we discuss our CAS lesson, which occurs an hour after we meet. Basically, we help set up the CAS classes and therefore are crucial in helping other students achieve their best CAS performance. We spread the message of CAS by advertising our CAS activities and progress in the Parent Bulletin, the brand-new CAS board or the Yearbook. In fact, this is the first year that we have started presenting our CAS experiences in the Parent Bulletin, thanks to our team. Below is a picture of me working on our new CAS board, which I started to work on in April. The theme I chose for the board (black, red and white colours) makes the board more noticeable for other students. The board is hung on the wall in the hallway. I enjoy being part of the CAS team because it gives me great pleasure when people enjoy and take notice of my work and possibly find inspiration. I also enjoy helping my fellow classmates to achieve their best CAS performances through the help of our team. University and Career Guidance Counselling (Grades 9-12) UKCAT For medical and dental courses, most UK universities require applicants to sit an admissions test in addition to their other entry requirements. The UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT: https:// www.ukcat.ac.uk/) is required by the majority of University Medical and Dental schools in the UK and must be sat in the summer of 2017 by candidates who want to apply to member universities for entry in 2018 (or deferred entry in 2019). What is the UKCAT? The UKCAT helps universities to make more informed choices from amongst the many highly-qualified applicants to medical and dental programmes. It is used in conjunction with other admissions processes such as the UCAS application and academic qualifications. The UKCAT is a computer-based test. It does not contain any curriculum or science content but instead focuses on exploring the cognitive powers of candidates and other attributes considered to be valuable for health care professionals. Who should sit the test? A full list of universities / courses that require the UKCAT is available at https://www.ukcat.ac.uk/ukcattest/ukcat-universities/. Students sit the test during the summer before they submit their UCAS application in October. Where can candidates sit the test? The test is delivered via computer in partnership with Pearson VUE at over 150 UK authorised test centres and in around 100 countries worldwide. Candidates are encouraged to register and book early to ensure they get a test slot at their chosen test centre.
