Specials Procedures for Excused Non-Participation in PE: A note including the date, reason for not participating, and the expected length of time. District policy requires a doctor s excuse for students unable to participate for 3 or more consecutive days. Rainy Day Dismissal On rainy day dismissals, students sit inside the kindergarten doors. **Please make sure to have your orange card at dismissal.

Planners Your child will increase his/her independence by having a planner to write down important dates, learning goals. PTA provided a free planner for each child.. BIRTHDAYS All students may bring a store bought birthday treat to share with the class; ready to be served. All treats should be peanut-free Each class has around 20 students. Please provide napkins with your treats. If you have a child with an allergy, please provide a bag of alternative snacks at the beginning of the year. Volunteers We depend on our volunteers! There are several areas you might be interested in. You must have your background check completed to volunteer. Thank you to those of you who have already signed up. Sign-up sheets are available. - Work Room Volunteer - Class Parties - Field Day - Library 15

MAP Assessments Your child will take assessments in the following areas: Math and Reading Students will take Math MAP Wednesday and Thursday, August 30 th and 31 st. L.A. MAP will be taken the following week, Tuesday and Wednesday, September 5 th The test is very different from the primary test taken in K-1 You can view your child s results on PISD s Parent Portal and will be reviewed at the October 10 th parent/teacher conference 16

Spelling Students will write their new spelling pattern in their agendas on Friday for the spelling dictation test the following Friday Students will be given words on the test that follow the spelling pattern instead of memorized words. About 8 High Frequency words will also be given for students to memorize for the test. The spelling test will consist of words and dictation sentences with the spelling patterns, high frequency words, and some type of grammar usage from the week. Thursday Folders/Homework Thursday (yellow) folders will go home on Thursday with any important papers from the school or graded papers. Homework will be sent home on Fridays and due the following Thursday. Will usually consist of reading log, spelling activity, math skill sheet, and a weekly reader. Please record their nightly minutes followed with a parent s signature Students must read a minimum of 3 days totaling 60 minutes. 18

Homework Help Have a quiet place to work. Set aside a certain time daily for homework. Have supplies nearby such as paper, pencils, erasers, and a pencil sharpener. Have students plan homework around their schedules and upcoming events. Place all finished work and materials in their homework bag and backpack before going to bed.-return ONLY on THURSDAY 19

(Plano s Academic and Creative Education) PACE provides services for academically gifted and/or talented students in grades K-12 who have demonstrated the need for advanced, differentiated instruction. Grades 1-5 referral packet is due to Ms. Kristin Ransom, PACE teacher, by December 6th at 3pm. Testing will be in January and February for placement the following school year. The referral packet may be printed online at: http://pisd.edu/parents/advanced.academics/gifted.pace/index.shtml. If you do not have online access or have additional questions, please contact Kristin Ransom kristin.randsom@pisd.edu. **New Students enrolled in the district after December 7, 2016(last year)-the referral deadline for testing is Friday, September 1 by 3:00 PM. Referral packets received after this date will be held for spring assessment
