Wuhan University Undergraduate Program Trade & Investment Track The study in Trade & Investment ( track) serves a number of purposes: it enable students to master the principles of economics; it helps students understand the basic functioning and mechanism of modern international economy, trade and finance; it get students familiar with professional practices in international trade, investment and finance; it helps students understand public debate about economic policies, especially about China-related foreign trade and investment policies; it serves as a direct steppingstone towards employment in business, finance, non-profit, and government organizations in China and abroad; it prepares students for graduate study in fields like business and finance. The introduction of program outlines information on organization, requirement, evaluation and validation of the program as following: I. The program is composed by fundamental courses, specialization courses and professional practice. The course schedule of the program is arranged in 8 semesters. For details of courses, please make reference to joint pieces on study program and course schedule. II. Each course is composed by lecture given by professor and tutorials. Practices or exercises on computer are included for several courses if necessary. More details can be found in joint piece on study program. III. Courses are taught in English. English teaching materials are used. Students are required to speak English in discussions on class and to submit works in English. Textbooks in English and Chinese are recommended. (cf. joint piece on recommended textbook) IV. The program is in credit system. While the course schedule is arranged across 8 semesters, students are free to choose sequence of courses, whenever they are available, between 3 and 5 years. Students need to validate 150 credits during 3-5 years. Fundamental courses validate 84 credits, specialization courses validate 54 credits, and professional practice validates 12 credits. The professional practice is fixed at the 7 th semester. For optimizing the sequencing of course, please make reference to joint piece on study program and course schedule. V. The final score of each course is based on three parts: attendance to the class 3
(30%), homework and classroom discussion (30%), and final exam (40%). VI. End elimination system is applied for validating each course. The system aims at stimulating competition. Scores of students will be ranked and the last 5-10% fails. For every first failure to each course, there will be one chance of make-up examination.
