SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS Nicholas T. Britt Scholarship Essay Colby N. Cruver Scholarship Essay This fall, I plan to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Linguistics. The education required to be a mechanical engineer is specialized enough to make one an asset and a necessity to any team, and broad enough for an engineer to apply himself at manly diverse tasks all over the world. I plan to obtain all the knowledge possible in my major, and to learn from people of other majors. With the opportunity to work on almost any of the problems faced in today s society, I m going to need all the knowledge that I can get. I understand that diversity of knowledge is almost as important as the quantity of knowledge that someone has. I know that some of the best minds around the country are going to be studying at Georgia Tech, so I plan on meeting people and establishing lasting relationships so that I can learn from them and possibly work with them later in my career. I plan to minor in linguistics so that my employer can send me to various places in the world, and I can be productive. The global economy is increasing, and knowing about different languages and cultures will make me more valuable to a company while giving me the chance to see the world. When I leave school, I want to get a job with enough flexibility for me to use my education in different ways, and to think of new ways to solve old problems. I want the opportunity to be a part of a team that is the best at what they do. Overall, I want my career to benefit somebody. I can t stand the idea of working for hours, much less years, and not making a difference anywhere in the world except for in my pocket. I want to give something to the world in a way that nobody has seen before. A mechanical engineer is necessary in just about every aspect of modern ideas, planning, and production. Regardless of how advanced a society gets, a mechanical engineer is a staple of any society. I want the chance to be that basic element of production and to be involved in the high-tech aspects of a fast paced world. I am a senior at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Georgia. As an honor student for a number of years, I have learned that I must work diligently and consistently to receive good grades so that I can achieve my goals and aspirations. In addition to my academic focus, I was also blessed to participate in athletics through the football, track and wresting teams. As a participant in sports for the four years of high school, I discovered a deep passion for sports that will ultimately guide me in choosing my educational goals. I was fortunate to be a member of two state football championship teams which served as an extra incentive for me to apply the adage, Working hard will pay off. Being a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes helped to reaffirm my belief of a Greater Power, even in sports. All of these experiences will be instrumental in establishing my educational goals which will begin with graduating from Sandy Creek High School on May 25, 2012. Following graduation, I will focus all of my attention on college. I plan to attend the University of South Florida with the expectation of receiving a Bachelor s degree in four years. Because I have always aspired to own my own business, I plan to major in Business or Sports Management. Through strategic planning and scheduling, I hope to intertwine each of these areas in my educational goals so that I can reap the benefits of each. Consequently, I would be able to own y own business of establishing gyms for training athletes and others while enjoying the privilege of being involved in sports. So, why not seek a double major in Sports Management and Business? Eventually, I envision an expansion of athletic gyms that spread from Georgia and throughout the world. Although it will not come easy, I am confident that if I utilize all of my previous educational and athletic experiences, coupled with applying myself while in college, I will definitely achieve my educational goals and aspirations. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS Christian R. Stegall Scholarship Essay After I graduate from high school I plan to enter Morehouse College where I will immerse myself into the rich traditions of becoming a Morehouse man. I plan on joining student organizations which give back to the community in numerous ways. I believe that if I can establish good connections in college, it would help me be able to help more people after college. I believe that my true calling is to help children with low self-esteem. I would do anything not to have another child feel the same pain I felt, so I plan on opening a child abuse and self-esteem center after I graduate. I will go to Morehouse College to major in Business Administration with a minor in Public Relations. I ultimately plan on obtaining my MBA but in the mean time I would also like to help financially manage and advise my brother s non-profit organization for children after I graduate. It would be my dream to work alongside my brother to help impact the live of other people through work for a better cause. Stanley R. Arnold Scholarship Essay The four years that I ve spent at Newnan High School have been enjoyable, challenging, and there have been minor ups and downs for me, but I always remember that I can over come anything through Jesus Christ! It s now time for me to take all the knowledge that I ve learned, and all the memories that I ve made to the University I plan to attend. This Fall I plan on attending Shorter University and major in Communications with a minor in Theology. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Communications (Summa Cum Laude), I would like to continue my studies at a prestigious Graduate school to receive my Masters in Communications. There comes a time in one s life when the going gets tough, and my experience with this old saying occurred last semester; I just had so much going on with school, and preparing myself for college. Even though we have our moments of despair, God is always there to lift us up, and he just works in mysterious ways for us. In October I was called to the guidance office and my counselor told me I was recommended to participate in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Mentoring Program. After filling out all of the required forms, it was time for the first meeting with a group of polished African American men. Each week we had speakers to address various topics from dress for success to proper interviewing techniques. On one particular Thursday afternoon, the speaker for the day had us write an encouraging statement about the choices we make, and how they affect our lives. The statement I prepared remains in may wallet today. I always look at it for encouragement before I take a test, and when I encounter negative situations. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity s goal and mission is very powerful and I would love to be a member one day. I believe in helping this generation of young African American males achieve like they never have before! Jay R. Newsome, II Scholarship Essay I set multiple short-term goals each year. My current short-term goals are to maintain my 4.0 GPA throughout this school year, to graduate in the top ten percent of my class, and to go to a college where I can get the best education possible. Maintaining my 4.0 GPA and graduating in the top ten percent of my class are goals that, with perseverance and good study habits, can easily be achieved. I believe that going to a college where I will be well educated is essential for my career and for my life. Along with my short-term goals, I always set long-term goals as well. My long-term goals are to receive my Doctorate Degree in Music Education and to become a music professor at a reputable university. Receiving my Doctorate in Music Education will require many years of hard work, but it will allow me to strive towards the career path in which I want to go. Becoming a music professor will not only allow me to be surrounded by music all day long, but it will enable me to be an inspiration and a light to students and faculty from all around the country and maybe even from around the world. Becoming a music professor will allow me to brighten the lives of my students and my fellow faculty Ω5

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS members with wonderful music, a smile on my face, and a word of encouragement. I know the positive impact that many teachers have had on my life, and I want to have a greater impact on the students and faculty that I come in contact with around the world. My goal in life is to make a mark on this world that can never be erased. Bobby Q. Swint Scholarship Essay After high school, I plan on going to college and earning a degree in Mathematics, Engineering, or Accounting. I really enjoy math, and I excel in the subject. Nevertheless, I plan on using the subject in my future career. I don t want to have a job where I m just getting by in life. I want an occupation that takes care of all my needs and provides me to get what I want. I also want to be able to help my mom out if she needs it in the future. I know I will not be able to give the equal amount of stuff she provided me with all my life, but I want to get pretty close just to say thank you for taking good care of me. She always told me not to forget where I came from and always stay humble and that s just what I plan to do. I hate asking her to do anything for me that involve money because I feel that she has already done enough. I would really hate for her to even pay a dime for me to go to college. I work my tail off every day in school just because of her. I want my college education to be paid for. Even though I kind of have a general idea of what I think I want to do, I m not for certain. A man once said to me If you ever know exactly what you want to do, you have failed me. By that, he meant that I should have plans of doing so many great things that no one would understand the exact thing that I wanted to do in my future. Ω6
