Please have your student show you our Google Classroom if you would like to know what is going on. 6 th Grade Social Studies The United States and Canada Essential Questions: How do you measure success? The test for this unit was today. We will begin our unit on Canada this week. 7 th Grade Social Studies Ancient Southwest Asia and Africa Essential Question: How much does geography affect people s lives? This week we will continue looking at Ancient Egypt and Nubia. 8 th Grade Social Studies The Revolution Essential Question: When is war justified? We will continue looking at the beginning of the war and the Declaration of Independence. We will be changing up how we are covering the content to give some differentiation to the class. There won t be as much computer work during this lesson. Continuation Info Our next meeting is on Monday, February 8 th at 4:45. Weighted Grades I do weight my grades for academic classes as follows: Tests/Projects = 40% Quizzes/Homework/Classwork = 35% Notes/Participation/ = 25% This does make it so that you can t add up their total number of points and divide it by the total points possible and calculate a correct grade. We will also practice analyzing poetry and spend time and preparing for a poetry test on Thursday. We will also practice analyzing poetry. We will then review Galileo concepts for 7th Grade the rest of the week. In 8th Grade Math we will have a catch up day on Monday, and move into translations on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday we will review Galileo Concepts for 8th Grade. In Geometry we will have a quiz on 8.1-8.4 on Monday. We will then work on systems of equations for a couple days and then 8th Grade Galileo concepts the rest of the week.

We will look into Order of Operations and take a Module 9 Quiz on Thursday. 8 th Grade Math- We start Module 9 this week. We will switch gears and investigate transformations this week. Transformations are what happens to objects when they change position in the coordinate plane. We will go through 9.1-9.4 this week. Algebra- We continue on into the exciting world of factoring this week. We will be factoring trinomials by the end of the week! Since there is a test portion and written portion, I am allowing students to use two days to complete it. When everyone has completed the final, we will finish the year with a few creative writing activities. This week, we will spend Monday reviewing our commas quiz that we did not do so well on. I will offer a retake on Friday. Additionally, we will begin a short poetry unit to break up our MLA study and our next big essay. This poetry unit focuses on expression in poetry. We will write both structured and unstructured poetry, and students will use these poems to create a "CD" for their own fictional band/artist. This is a fun project that will culminate with a "Grammy Awards" ceremony.

Until the previous quarter s requirements are met no new credit will be given. Students will receive 20 points for each completed half hour of service in the quarterly requirement. Additional half hours are credited to the following quarter up to the 10 hour requirement. Once the 10 hour requirement is met the student will receive a 100% for that quarter and all following quarters. A log (available in Mrs. Hughes room) must be completed for each month s service and turned in to Mrs. Hughes room. Partial half hours will receive no credit. Hours turned in after the quarterly deadline will be counted toward the total in the next quarter.
