1.-ARCO Foundation 2.-Collection Exhibition #FundaciónARCO The #FundacionARCO, founded in 1987, aims to promote, research, publicise and disseminate contemporary art, as well as training, teaching and publishing about artistic trends and techniques, especially in regard to modern manifestations of current art. Over the last year its activity has led it to take on tasks that had previously been done by the Amigos de ARCO Association, specifically the selection and launching of various initiatives, actions and awards in line with its main objective of stimulating and boosting the market. Platform Lunch On Thursday 20 February we will be holding the third Platform Lunch, a meeting place for collectors, experts and art-lovers dedicated to acquiring new works of art for the #FundaciónARCO collection. During the lunch, the consultants Ferran Barenblit (director of the Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo in Móstoles, Madrid), Taru Elfving (Frame Finland) and Miguel von Hafe (director of the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela) will present preselected pieces from the fair, and attendees will vote for the works to be acquired and added to the foundation's holdings, using the funds collected. On previous occasions, the attendees chose the work Inserción arqueológica, consisting of a series of five digital prints by the Mexican artist Eduardo Abaroa (Mexico City, 1968), represented by the Mexican gallery KURIMANZUTTO in the Solo Projects programme, and the projection Editor solitario, by the Colombian artist Óscar Muñoz, represented by La Fábrica Galería. ARCO GalleryWalk For the third year in a row the #FundacionARCO took part in kicking off the art season with the ARCO GalleryWalk initiative, a series of free visits to Madrid art galleries to coincide with APERTURA and DecorAccion. This is a way to help people interested in contemporary art to find out first-hand how galleries work with artists, how exhibitions are presented in each space and their approach to current production Collecting Seminars The Lázaro Galdiano Foundation again welcomed the Symposium on Collecting, organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport's Sub-directorate General for Promoting Fine Arts in collaboration with the #FundaciónARCO; its 3rd edition was entitled "Intervene in the Collection / Collect the Intervention". Exhibition of the #FundaciónARCO collection at Alcobendas Art Centre Alcobendas Art Centre is organising an exhibition of works entitled Variation. Lo obsesivo como forma de paisaje (The obsessive as a landscape form) from the #FundaciónARCO collection This is a selection of more than 30 of the 300 works from the Collection On 12 February, Alcobendas Art Centre will be housing the exhibition Variation. Lo obsesivo como forma de paisaje. A selection of more than 30 of the 300 works included in the #FundaciónARCO Collection. The exhibition, which is runs until 16 April, includes works by twenty-eight artists based on the premise of obsession. Variation. Lo obsesivo como forma de paisaje is a collection comprising different viewpoints, whose common denominator is reflection about reiteration and accumulation. It is an exhibition which metaphorically reflects on the painting inside the painting: small collections and obsessions within a larger Collection. The title refers to the work Variation, created in 1975 by Hanne Darboven, which, along with Series: prime numbers by Esther Ferrer, form the basis of the exhibition. Both reflect on the obsessive through numerical sequence and the interaction between tempo and time. Tania Pardo, curator of the exhibition, says this mental perturbation, caused by a fixed idea, is understood here as the tenacious persistence of each of these artists, which may be in the form of mathematical scales and musical structures as in the works of Elena Asins, Jack Strange, Denmark and Gabriel Orozco, lists and classifications as in the case of Ignasi Aballí and Lara Almarcegui, the collections and files of Nelson Leirner, Allen Ruppersberg and Iñaki Bonillas, the geometrics and symmetries of Carl Andre, Donald Judd, Allan McCollum, Alan Charlton and Jiri David, the repetition and accumulation used by Jorge Macchi, Christian Boltanski, Polly Apfelbaum and Francis Alÿs, or the series and registers of Alexander Apóstol, Teresa Margolles, Rivane Neuenschwander, Olafur Eliasson, Bulent Sangar, Gregor Schneider, Oscar Múñoz and Hassan Khan. Alcobendas Art Centre was set up to promote art in the city, both emerging talent and established art. During the last three years it has housed an extensive programme of
exhibitions thanks to its successful collaborations with artists, collections and institutions. Collections formed through public and private acquisitions such as those of the Coca Cola Foundation, Los Bragales and Caja Burgos-Caixa Bank. On this occasion, in Variation. Lo obsesivo como forma del paisaje, Alcobendas has one of the best international contemporary art collections existing in Spain, that of #FundaciónARCO. During the ARCOmadrid fair, the #FundaciónARCO space, which will be exhibiting different works by Richard Serra from this Collection, will make mention of this exhibition at Alcobendas Art Centre. #FundaciónARCO Collection #FundaciónARCO was set up in 1987 and is a collection of works acquired at the Fair with the objective of contributing to the development and promotion of national and international contemporary, while serving as an example for other institutions with respect to acquiring works at ARCOmadrid.
