PREFACE The current issue brings to the attention of the readers the endeavours of researchers who presented their work in the 8 th edition of the International Conference Professional Communication and Translation Studies (PCTS), organized in April 2013 by the Department of Communication and Foreign Languages at Politehnica University of Timisoara. The conference proposed as a main focus of interest the topic Communicating science in the knowledge-based society. It succeeded in attracting 120 specialists from 18 countries and 4 continents, many of the valuable manuscripts being published in the first volume of the conference, which is indexed by prestigious international databases such as EBSCO, CEEOL and Index Copernicus. Continuing the already established tradition of the volumes in the PCTS series, the current issue groups the peer reviewed selected articles in four sections: Professional Communication, Linguistics and Communication, Translation Studies, and Foreign Language Pedagogy, these also being the conference sections. The articles in the Professional Communication section present views on Romanian education and research in the field of Communication Science, results of research concerning the identities of PR specialists, reflections on methods of research and image interpretation, virtual interactions, organizational communication and advertising. The articles in the Linguistics and Communication section focus on linguistic creations in the economics terminology, contrastive linguistics (English- Romanian, French-Romanian), language and style in a literary Romanian masterpiece, translated into English and the role of the medium in understanding journalistic articles. The Translation Studies section includes two articles on the development of professional communication, one with a focus on the terminology used in communication sciences (mainly concerning television) and the second aiming at stirring an interest for the compilation of a professional dictionary in naval construction. The Foreign Language Pedagogy section looks into the challenges of e- learning and m-learning, intercultural communication, attitudes towards English and English teaching for special purposes, but also at the curriculum as a basis for a text book project. v

The positive experience of the scientific dialogue on the trends in professional communication, translation and didactics of modern languages encountered in Timisoara encourages us to announce that the preparations for the 9 th edition of the Professional Communication and Translation Studies (to be held in 2015) are launched, and the call for papers will be available soon at http://www.cls.upt.ro/manifestari-stiintifice/conferinte/conferences, the conference website, and also via the conference Facebook page, with updates and practical information. In the good tradition of this conference, reflected also by the current volume, the working and publishing languages are English, French and German, while all abstracts are in English, to ensure a larger impact of the topics within the scientific community of researchers in arts and humanities. EDITORIAL BOARD Eugenia ARJOCA-IEREMIA, PhD, is an associate professor in French at the Romance Languages Department at the University of the West, Timişoara. Her research interests focus on contemporary French semantics, discourse analysis, LSP translation and French grammar. Stefan Bratosin is the director of international open research center ORC IARSIC and the director of Communication and social intervention team of CORHIS, university center in communication, human ressources management and sociology at Paul Valéry University. Her professional experience includes translation, counselling in public relations, academic management (provost of a private university, 2004-2008), and political journalism. He has written three books on literature (including an edition of John Donne, with his father, T. W. Craik), a host of academic articles and scholarly notes, and six books of poetry, one of which, Those Years, was translated into Bulgarian and nominated for a Pushcart Prize. His poetry has appeared in journals in the U.S., the UK, Belgium and Romania. In 2008 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Sofia University, Bulgaria, and gave poetry readings in Bulgarian universities. In 2011 and 2012, he was poet-in-residence at the University of Abu Dhabi at Al Ain, in the United Arab Emirates. Daniel DEJICA, PhD, is an associate professor in translation studies at Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania. His research interests include translation theory and methodology, LSP translation, and discourse analysis for translation purposes. Daniel Dejica is a member of the Advanced Translation Research Center (ATRC) team at the University of Saarbrucken, Germany and a member of the Doctoral Studies Committee of the European Society for Translation Studies. He has been co-editing the Proceedings of the Professional Communication and Translation Studies conference, organized at Politehnica University of Timişoara since 2001; he is also a member in the editorial boards of other international peerreviewed journals including connexions: international professional communication journal (New Mexico Tech), MuTra Journal (University of Saarbrucken), or The European English Messenger (ESSE - European Society for the Study of English). Since 2012, Daniel Dejica has been the Head of the Department of Communication and Foreign Languages at Politehnica University of Timisoara, and the Director of the Interlingua Language Center at the same university. Between 2000 and 2012 he was co-head of the section of Specialised Communication of the German association for Applied Linguistics (GAL).
