Welcome to the Web Site of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UniMoRe) The following information is for foreign students who would like to find out more about the courses and training offered by our Faculty. You will also find some useful contact numbers for those who have already chosen to study in Modena in our Faculty. The University Degree courses offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy (2009-2010) 1) Pharmacy (Laurea Magistrale) Duration: 5 years (including six months practical experience in a pharmacy during the last year) Description: students are trained to acquire specific skills which will allow them to work in or to run private or public pharmacies in Italy and abroad. In particular students will acquire specific knowledge regarding the characteristics and the chemical and pharmacological properties of drugs. They will become familiar with use and distribution protocols and they will acquire specific knowledge related to drug distribution and, more generally, to health information and education, all of which are essential in order to work in a pharmacy. Furthermore, students are required to complete their technical skills with extra courses and/or cultural initiatives subject to the approval of the Faculty. 2) Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies (CTF): Laurea Magistrale Duration: 5 years Description: students are trained to acquire specific skills which will allow them both to work in or to run private or public pharmacies in Italy and abroad, and to work in pharmaceutical industries. The syllabus includes fundamental subjects in the first two years and more technical and professional subjects in the next three years. Furthermore, students will be required to integrate their technical skills with extra courses and/or cultural initiatives subject to the approval of the Faculty. On this degree course, more weight is given to the notions of physics, mathematics, and chemistry than in the classical pharmacy degree, and topics like industrial drug design, production, distribution and quality control are dealt with extensively. 3) Degree in Herbal Sciences and Technology Duration: 3 years Description: students are trained to acquire specific skills which will allow them to work in or to run herbal stores, or to be employed in areas related to the use of herbs (production, industrial manipulation, packaging, control and marketing of products based on herbs used for medicines, health and cosmetics). The course aims to provide students with adequate knowledge regarding the biological active ingredients contained in herbal medicines, how these medicines can be used and how they work. part from the study of subjects strictly related to herbal sciences, the course also focuses on biomedical disciplines and legislation regarding the distribution of herbal health products. Entry test for all first year students Students enrolling in the first year are required to pass a computerized entry test. The test includes multiple choice questions on basic mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology - notions which are recognized to be a necessary basis for future university classes. Brunetti. Students who do not pass the entry test by the end of the first semester are not allowed to sit the maths, physics, chemistry and biology exams. Students who do not pass the entry test by the end of June 2010 will be asked to enroll in the first year again...and Italian Test The Italian test takes place in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Via Campi 183, main entrance, 2nd floor, ask the lady in reception) Date: 1 september 2009, 15:00 English Language Placement Test Students who enroll in the first year are required to sit an English language placement test. The aim of this test is to access the students knowledge of the English language in order to divide them into groups of a homogenous level. The test includes a part taken by all UNIMORE applicants and a part specifically designed for Pharmacy Faculty students.

The test is not selective and mandatory. For further information and registration http://testing.cla.unimo.it/ Italian classes for foreign students The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia organizes free Italian language classes for foreign students. Classes are organized by the Centro Linguistico di teneo (University Language Centre). Lessons will be held in the first weeks of September after the Italian test for foreign students until academic lectures begin. For those who would like to go on improving their language skills, an extensive language program is offered during the second semester. Specialization in Clinical Pharmacy Duration: 3 years (open only to graduates in Pharmacy or in CTF -chemistry and pharmaceutical technologies-) For specific information about regulations regarding the practice of pharmaceutical professions after taking an Italian Specialization degree, students should contact the appropriate authorities in their own country.
