President s Column As I write this barefoot and in shorts, I'm realizing the summer that finally arrived is also nearly over! Better late than never and may we be blessed with a good Indian Summer. This summer, the SKCVMA Board has been unusually busy. We did an unprecedented amount of emailing in June, working out our new Bylaws. We also had the first special general meeting of the association in June, leading to approval of a bylaw revision that allowed us to meet via telephone conferencing for the first time in July, when the board approved the final draft of the revised Bylaws. The general meeting in August was applauded as the shortest and sweetest possible, held for about 5 minutes in the Argosy parking lot prior to our wonderful summer party aboard the Lady Mary. The final version of the Bylaws met with unanimous approval. I am anticipating the end of a busy year as the SKCVMA president, for much of it, the sole officer of the board. We have two people lined up to be President Elect and Treasurer. With the new Bylaws permitting more efficient, and occasionally, electronic, board meetings, I hope that being involved with your local professional group will be easier in the future. So many of us are so busy with our lives, it is hard to find time to give back to the organization that brings us so much CE and potential networking/camaraderie. We still need a willing person to be the board's secretary, and next year's President Elect. How about it? I look forward to welcoming more of you to involvement with this great organization. -Jeff Parke, DVM, 2011 SKCVMA President SKCVMA Technician Scholarships Beginning in 2011, Seattle King County Veterinary Medical Association has awarded two scholarships ($500 each) to a Veterinary Technology student at each of our region s veterinary technical programs: Pima Medical Institute and Pierce College (not shown). One SKCVMA Veterinary Technician scholarship recipient, Kelsey Richards, was awarded her scholarship on July 19th at PIMA Medical Institute s Renton campus. Kelsey will be graduating later this summer with her LVT; she is currently completing an internship with SVS in Kirkland. After graduation, Kelsey plans additional training for specialty certification in veterinary emergency and critical care.
