Students may commute to Taylor s Lakeside Campus using public transportation such as BRT Sunway Line (Sunmed Station), KTM Komuter (Sentul Port Klang Line), LRT (Kelana Jaya Line), Rapid KL 783 bus (from Kelana Jaya), or using the Taylor s shuttle buses. The list below provides information about all the events that are taking place throughout your Orientation with us. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT REPORTING Where do we go upon arrival in Malaysia Friday, 18 Nov 1200 Monday, 21 Nov 0900 All airport pick-ups for international students are managed by the International Office. Students are required to log in their arrival details online via the new pre-boarding system. The link for this new preboarding system can be found here: http://studentcentral.taylors.edu.my/eservicerequest/preboardin g/_layouts/aq/preboarding/pbchecklist.aspx All requests for airport pick-ups must be logged in at least five (5) calendar days before the date and time of arrival. Any requests made after this shall be automatically rejected and you shall have to make your own way to Taylor s University. Airport pick-ups can be arranged at the following airports: (i) Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA / KLIA 2) (ii) Subang Skypark Terminal Pick-ups are available on weekdays between 1000 hours and 1800 hours (Malaysian Time). Students are advised to avoid arrival on a public holiday. All airport pick-ups will transfer you from the airport to Taylor s University Lakeside Campus. You will be assisted with reporting to the International Office before you are taken to the Taylor s Hostel Management Office to sort out your accommodation. WELCOME RECEPTION Friday, 6 Jan at 1430 Organised by International Student Services (ISS), all new international students are required to attend the Welcome Reception also known as the International Student Briefing during the Pre-Orientation Week. The briefing will include: i) Ice-Breaking Activities ii) Cultural Awareness iii) International Student Council and Clubs iv) International Student Insurance Scheme and Medical Health Cover v) Visa Endorsement and Renewal Matters ORIENTATION HELPDESK Our staff members are here to answer any enquiries relating to your Orientation. Just approach the staff or Student Ambassadors at Counter 1 or 2 at Student Central for assistance! STUDENT ID Monday, 9 Jan at 0830 All students are required to have their digital photo taken for Student ID printing. You can take your digital photo at Student Central by presenting your original payment receipt (full-payment for the 1st Semester).Your Student ID will be ready for collection after 24 hours on weekdays. PROGRAMME BRIEFING Monday, 9 Jan at 0915 Students will be briefed on their timetable and other academic related matters. Take this opportunity to get to know your Faculty Members as well. ENGLISH ENTRANCE TEST Monday, 9 Jan at 1030 The test is compulsory for all students to determine their level of English. KL FAMILIARISATION TRIP Saturday, 21 Jan at 1100 The Kuala Lumpur Familiarization Trip aims to help students to get to know more about the local transportation system, the local delicacies and the uniqueness of our urban city. The Kuala Lumpur Familiarization Trip will include: i) KL Sentral - an intermodal transportation hub to most of Kuala Lumpur's passenger rail lines as well as an intercity train station between Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore. ii) KLCC (Petronas Twin Towers) One of Malaysia s iconic landmarks For more information, email iss@taylors.edu.my 11

STUDENT PASS AND VISA International students who wish to pursue their study in Taylor s University must obtain a student pass and visa, a requirement by the Malaysian Immigration Department. From 1st February 2013, all international students intending to pursue a programme of study at any higher education institution in Malaysia shall have their Student Pass applications process by a new agency known as Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). SINGLE ENTRY VISA Once the Student Pass and Visa Approval Letter (VAL) is issued, all international students MUST obtain a Single Entry Visa to enter Malaysia from their nearest Malaysian High Commission / Malaysian Embassy / Consulate. UPON ARRIVAL Once the application of the Student Pass is successful, a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) will be issued. Students are required to bring this VAL with them when they travel to Malaysia. The VAL must be presented to the immigration officer at the airport upon arrival. AFTER ARRIVAL Report to International Office with the following documents; a. Original passport b. b. Presentation of original academic transcripts and certificates c. Submission of signed Letter of Acceptance d. Presentation of Official receipts e. Submission of signed copy: Policies and Regulations for International students It is mandatory requirement that students will need to undergo a Medical Health Examination within 3 working days upon arriving in Malaysia, by a medical/health clinic designated by EMGS. The Student Pass Endorsement is the final step in completing the process for obtaining a Student Pass for international students. It confirms and seals your status as an international student in Malaysia. ACCOMMODATION There are 4 options for accommodation you may consider: 1. On-campus accommodation U Residence is the hostel accommodation that is located at Taylor s Lakeside Campus, and managed by the Taylor s Hostel Management Sdn Bhd. 2. OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION Off-campus accommodation is located outside of Taylor s University Lakeside Campus, and managed by the Taylor s Hostel Management Sdn Bhd. This may mean having to commute to the campus via public or private transport in order to attend classes or activities. PRIVATE LANDLORDS There are ample of private landlords within the vicinity of the university. IMPORTANT NOTE: Neither the University nor any member of University staff has any authority to make or give any representations or warranty whatsoever as regards the properties conditions or otherwise and in particular cannot guarantee that such properties comply with current Fire Regulations, Building Regulations, the Planning Acts, Health and Safety legislation and Licensing Schemes. 14
1. STUDENT ID It is very important to have your Student ID with you and displayed at all times when you are on campus. Students are required to present original payment receipt (full-payment for the 1st Semester) to the Student Advisor @ Student Central Counter (Block A, Level 2) to take a digital picture for the Student ID. 2. PEDESTRIAN ACCESS CARD If you are staying in PJS 7 area or taking the RapidKL Bus 783 or BRT to Lakeside Campus, you may apply for a pedestrian access card to gain access to the campus via the pedestrian gate. To apply for one, please email (studentcentral.lsc@taylors.edu.my) to the Student Advisor @ Student Central for advice. 3. PARKING SYSTEM IN LAKESIDE Free parking bays are available at Zone H and Zone I in Lakeside Campus. Parking fee of RM3 per entry is applicable to Zone J and basement parking at the Boardwalk. The parking facility is on a firstcome, first-served basis. Please look for alternative sites if all the parking bays are taken up. 5. DRESS CODE POLICY Students must dress neatly with clean attire at all times. Students are advised to be mindful of the cultural sensitivities of others and the academic environment. 6. SMOKE-FREE CAMPUS ENVIRONMENT Smoking is not permitted on Taylor s University grounds which are clearly separated from the Commercial Block (The Boardwalk) by the demarcation stickers. Students found smoking on the University grounds will face the below consequences: First-time offenders will be given a verbal warning and their details will be recorded in a database by Student Central. For a second offence, the student will be fined RM50 and receive a warning letter from the University. If a third offence is committed, the student will be fined RM100 and be subjected to disciplinary action 4.
