Being an international student is cool because I add diversity to the student body and help make Broward College a more welcoming place for people who may not feel they fit in. Qiaohuan Yang, China, Global Student Ambassador When I first came to Broward College, I was very shy and nervous. At first I went to the wrong classrooms. Now I feel a lot better thanks to my public speaking professor. She let me know that it is not that hard to talk in front of the class. As a Global Student Ambassador, I will try my best to help international students. I will show them around so they can get familiar with the buildings. If they have any problem with English, I am glad to help. If they are shy, I will help them join the big family of Broward College. Misook Kang, South Korea, Global Student Ambassador The first week of school I did not want to leave my house. I was passive because I did not understand the American culture. Some of my friends told me that people are rude here, but I realized you have to change your attitude and you will have a better experience. Now I have been a student for a year at Broward College and everything has improved including my English and American customs. I am pleased to serve as a Global Student Ambassador. These are people who serve other people and the community. Willem Boermans, The Netherlands I like to be at Broward College, especially as an honors student. My aspiration is to get my master s degree from Cornell. If you go to Broward College, they will help you a lot. Lucas Miranda, Brazil I have learned a lot about leadership and fellowship at Broward College. My goal is to bring new approaches that will make students think more about the importance of education and to help end mediocrity. My favorite quote is: Today s curious students are tomorrow s leaders who all together transform the world we live in. Bao Tran, Vietnam, Broward College graduate To me, Broward College was like my family. Since I m an international student, I was all on my own here in the USA. However, all the professors and staff members are were very caring and devoted. I felt comfortable going to them for advice. Student Life gave me wonderful experiences, and I got to meet successful students who inspired me to do better. I believed I have learned more than just what was necessary for my degree. Broward College is my second family that helped me to achieve more than I expected in the last two years. 14 Broward College
