Baccalaureate Pathways - $10K plan In 2012, Governor Rick Scott challenged the Florida College System (FCS) to work to develop baccalaureate degrees costing students no more than $10,000. Our colleges heard the governor s call and all 24 colleges approved to offer baccalaureate degrees signed on to the challenge. Ten colleges started as early as fall 2013. Can CCC offer a $6K plan? 120 units @ $46.00 < $6,000.00
History Early Baccalaureate Degrees were awarded to affluent young men in England. They were usually unmarried and therefore, bachelors. The term for baccalaureate degree became synonymous with Bachelor's Degree in the UK and the U.S.
CC Baccalaureate Why now? The New York Fashion Institute of Technology, a public community college, gained approval to confer degrees in the 1970 West Virginia's Parkersburg Community College 1980's. Vermont Technical College began in 1993. 40 years?
CC Baccalaureate Now More than 50 community colleges confer 465+ baccalaureate degrees in 21 states.

What about us? Task force formed this summer Baccalaureate degree study group In addition, current demographic, economic, and workforce trends will be analyzed to determine the need for such a program in California. A report will be generated that will provide the Chancellor and the Board of Governors an analysis and possible recommendations on whether and how the state should move forward with implementation of bachelor s degree programs within the California community colleges.

Industry Pressures Cross training one example is health care imaging. To cross train in ultrasound modalities of general, vascular, and cardiac you could take at least 4 years of curriculum and get multiple certificates or AS degrees. If you add radiology you would have 6 years of curriculum. Multilevel Industry Certifications while entry level positions may need one certificate/degree, advanced levels often require additional training or higher degrees. Example in health care is Neurodiagnostics: this is the actual industry certifications of my primary instructor R.EEG/EPT, CNIM, RPSGT, CLTM, FASET. To be eligible for these you would need at least 4 years of training.
Industry Pressures Increased Scope of Practice and Leadership Roles: Currently two of OCC s allied health programs are following national trends to require Bachelor s Degrees 1. Respiratory Therapy (Concorde & University of North Carolina distance ed). Currently 45% of the RCP s have a Bachelor s degree or higher. 2. Neurodiagnostic Technology (Ottawa University & University of North Carolina distance ed).

Current CA Degree Approval Transfer Degree For a program with a selected program goal of Transfer or Career Technical Education (CTE) and Transfer, required documentation includes one ASSIST Articulation Agreement by Major (AAM) report showing that required courses fulfill the majority (51% or greater) of lower-division requirements for the baccalaureate major. Articulation agreements at the ASSIST The documentation must show a goodfaith effort on the part of the college to assure that, to the extent possible, students will not have to repeat courses completed at the community college after they transfer. CTE Degree/Certificate In addition to campus and Board CTE Regional Consortium Approved (yes/no) For programs with a selected program goal of Career Technical Education (CTE) or Career Technical Education (CTE) and Transfer, by selecting yes, the college certifies that the certificate was approved by the CTE regional consortium
