The university is open to all those who have completed a matriculation or the foreign equivalent. The University of Iceland collects a nominal registration fee once per academic year. 2 Student Visa Preparation Guide:
Students at the University of Iceland do not pay tuition fees, but there is annual registration fee of ISK 45,000. The University of Iceland offers a plethora of programmes, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. In general, full-time studies towards an undergraduate degree at the University of Iceland amount to 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). The University of Iceland offers a diverse selection of courses taught in English language. Compulsory annual registration fee There is annual registration fee of ISK 45,000 paid by students. New students enrolled at the university will receive an invoice for the registration fee, which must be paid before a specific date. Registration for studies at the University of Iceland is confirmed upon payment of the invoice. Upon payment new students gain access to the university computer system and intranet (Ugla). If an invoice is not received, and the applicant cannot pay through their online bank, the applicant shall contact the Registration Office, phone: +354 525 4309, email: nemskra@hi.is. Annual course registration for the upcoming academic year (fall and spring semesters) takes place each spring. All university students must register during annual registration, including graduate students. The registration fee must be paid in connection with the annual registration. The fee can be paid via credit card online, or it is possible to request an invoice. If the registration fee is not paid by the due date the student is considered to have withdrawn from studies. Application deadline The deadline for international students (other than exchange students) to apply for undergraduate and graduate studies is usually 1 st February. Students from the Nordic countries are exempted and may apply for undergraduate studies until 5 th June (with the exception of the Icelandic as a second language programme, for which the deadline is 1 st February). Undergraduate studies (how to apply) Students who enroll at the University of Iceland shall have completed a matriculation examination (stúdentspróf) or a foreign equivalent. Undergraduate study programmes are updated annually. The only time you can access an updated list of programmes is when application is going on. An online application form will be available while applications are being accepted. G. Select your proposed course of study in the drop down list. Please note that most courses are taught in Icelandic. So any course you select here will either be available in Icelandic or English. When you select a course and the site gives you feedback that the course can be studied only in Icelandic, you will have to click the back button to select another course. But if the programme can be studied in English language, you'll be able to continue with the application. H. Submit the application. That's all! Check your email now for a message acknowledging the receipt of your application. Requirements As stated earlier, applicants ought to have completed a matriculation examination (stúdentspróf) or a foreign equivalent. In this case, a secondary school certificate that qualifies you for university studies in your home country and abroad is required. Your supporting documents including your O level certificate must be certified by a law court. It's recommended you attach a result checking scratch card to your certificate for the university to verify your result online. All enclosures must be in one envelope. Graduate studies (how to apply) The application deadline for graduate studies is usually 1 st February (15 th April for Icelandic and Nordic students). An online application form is only accessible when application has commenced. Processing of applications may take up to 8 weeks. For application form to graduate studies, visit: www.hi.is/en/university/international_students Just like undergraduate studies, a list of Graduate studies and their basic information at the University of Iceland is only available during admission. Requirements Your application is not valid, however, until a certified transcript of your degree diploma* is received by the University Registration Office, along with any supporting documents required. *Transcripts from the latest educational institution attended should be originals and sent directly by the institution to the below address. Other transcripts should be originals or certified copies and may be sent by the applicant. Copy of degree certificate related to your proposed course of study duly certified. 2-3 letters of reference on a specific form (available after filling the online form). Please submit references from people with direct knowledge of your recent academic work. If you are at present in employment, a reference from your employer is required. All pertaining documents must be received by the University by a specified date and should be submitted to the following address.. You will be notified by e-mail on the decision of admission.
