Sitting the IB in 2016 2017 tertiary entrance 2017 TAFE SA entry requirements TAFE SA courses offered through have Course Admission Requirements (CAR) which all applicants must meet in order to be eligible for selection. CAR differ according to the level and type of course. CAR in relation to secondary schooling are expressed by TAFE SA in terms of South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) completion. For IB students, completion of the IB Diploma satisfies these requirements. Course Admission Requirements Courses may be considered competitive if there are limited places available, or non-competitive if all interested and qualified students will be accepted. Admission requirements for competitive courses are either: satisfactory demonstration of reading, writing and numeracy skills by undertaking the Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA), or satisfactory demonstration of reading, writing and numeracy skills by undertaking the Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) and satisfactory performance in an audition/written assessment/portfolio. Most Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses do not have any CAR, but some courses may require a lower level Certificate. SACE completion is a requirement for some courses. There are no CAR for non-competitive Certificate I, II and III level courses at TAFE SA. Students are required to demonstrate satisfactory reading, writing and numeracy skills as part of course counselling before enrolling in a TAFE SA course. IB Diploma To qualify for the IB Diploma you must: complete one subject from each of the six subject groups with at least three subjects at higher level (HL) follow a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course complete an Extended Essay (EE) engage in a program of extra-curricular activities to meet Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) requirements achieve a total score of at least 24 points meet any other IB Diploma requirements Information about the CSPA and admission requirements for individual courses is available at www.tafesa.edu.au. Selection into competitive TAFE SA courses Where there are more eligible applicants for a TAFE SA course than there are places available, applicants are ranked in merit order for selection. For courses requiring the CSPA, selection is based on the CSPA score. For courses with CSPA and an internal assessment component, selection is based on the internal assessment score. Sometimes a course without CAR will have more applicants than places available. In these cases, selection will be based on earliest date of application. 4

2017 undergraduate entry requirements If you are enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma in 2016, in order to be eligible for entry in 2017 to an undergraduate course/program you must qualify for the IB Diploma. All applicants considered for entry to undergraduate courses/programs on the basis of results from the final year of secondary schooling are ranked using the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). The ATAR is an indicator of how well a particular student has performed relative to other students. The table on page 6 shows the relationship between IB points and the equivalent ATAR used for selection. Note that this table is used only for entry to participating institutions in South Australia and the Northern Territory. IB Diplomates who apply for admission to courses in other Australian states or overseas will be considered on the basis of different conversion tables developed and approved in the relevant states or countries. Details about prerequisites and assumed knowledge The tables on pages 8-34 show all undergraduate courses/programs offered in 2017, and any prerequisite and assumed knowledge subjects. These will help students to check their IB subjects against university course/ program entry requirements. For a definition of the terms, see page 36. Prerequisites Some undergraduate courses/programs require students to have studied one or more specific IB subjects to a minimum standard in order to be eligible for selection into the course. These subjects are known as prerequisites. Unless otherwise stated, prerequisite subjects may be taken either at higher level (HL) or at standard level (SL). In order to fulfil a prerequisite subject requirement, you must obtain a minimum grade of 3 if the subject has been taken at higher level (HL), or a minimum grade of 4 if the subject has been taken at standard level (SL). IB Diploma To qualify for the IB Diploma you must: complete one subject from each of the six subject groups with at least three subjects at higher level (HL) follow a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course complete an Extended Essay (EE) engage in a program of extra-curricular activities to meet Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) requirements achieve a total score of at least 24 points meet any other IB Diploma requirements Undergraduate selection To be eligible for selection into a undergraduate course/program you must: successfully complete your IB Diploma obtain a minimum IB score of 24 points (your IB score is then converted to an equivalent Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) (see table on page 6) fulfil any prerequisite subject requirements for the course Assumed knowledge Many undergraduate courses/programs recommend that commencing students have background knowledge in one or more specified subjects or have an identified skill which will enhance the student s understanding of the course/program content. This is known as assumed knowledge. Assumed knowledge is not compulsory and is not used in the selection process for entry to undergraduate courses/programs. Statements of assumed knowledge are intended purely to assist students in understanding program/course content and to allow them to make subject choices which may be of benefit to them in their future tertiary studies. 5

The two schemes are the Universities Equity Scheme and the Universities Language, Literacy and Mathematics Bonus Scheme. The Universities Equity Scheme awards 5 bonus points for eligible students, and the Universities Language, Literacy and Mathematics Bonus Scheme awards 2 or 4 points for eligible students. An individual student can receive a maximum of 9 bonus points under both schemes. Any bonuses applied by the universities will be added to the university aggregate from which selection ranks are calculated. The selection rank will then be the ATAR which corresponds to the revised aggregate. For IB students, calculates the equivalent of an ATAR based on their IB score. Bonuses are added to the corresponding university aggregate which is then converted to a revised equivalent ATAR. Universities Equity Scheme The Universities Equity Scheme will provide bonuses in two ways: bonuses for all students in certain specified schools and bonuses for individuals in other schools. Eligible students will receive five bonus points in the calculation of their selection ranks. The Scheme will apply to all courses offered by Charles Darwin University, Flinders University, the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, CQUniversity Australia, Tabor College of Higher Education and Torrens University Australia. School-based bonuses South Australian and Northern Territory schools attracting equity bonuses will be identified using criteria agreed to by s member universities which consider: schools remoteness as defined under the Australian Standard Geographical Classification the participation rate (the percentage of students in each school gaining an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) who receive a offer) 6

the mean ATAR achieved in each school schools Index of Community Socio- Educational Advantage. Interstate schools attracting equity bonuses will be identified using a subset of these criteria. Schools attracting bonuses will be identified on an annual basis when data for all criteria becomes available. contacts all SA/ NT schools each year regarding whether their students will be eligible for a schools-based bonus in the following year. The classification of individual schools may change from year to year. Students will not need to apply for a schoolbased bonus any such bonuses will automatically be applied by in the calculation of students selection ranks. Individual bonuses Students in other schools will be able to make an application under the Scheme to demonstrate their individual disadvantage. Students will be eligible under the Scheme where, during the year they gain their ATAR: they or their parents are in receipt of a Commonwealth means-tested income support payment, or they or their parents are the holders of a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card, or they are the holder of a School Card (under the Government of South Australia s School Card scheme). Details of students who receive an individual equity bonus will be stored by so that they can receive their equity bonus in future applications (while they are still eligible to apply on the basis of their year 12 studies). Application for individual bonuses Students can apply for consideration under the Universities Equity Scheme when completing your 2017 Undergraduate application from the website. Applications for the Scheme will not be available from the universities websites. Universities Language, Literacy and Mathematics Bonus Scheme The Universities Language, Literacy and Mathematics Bonus Scheme encourages students to strengthen their preparation for undergraduate studies by undertaking a language other than English, or specified English and Mathematics subjects. The Scheme will apply to all courses offered by Charles Darwin University, Flinders University, the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, Tabor College of Higher Education and Torrens University Australia except: Charles Darwin University 114831 Bachelor of Clinical Sciences/Doctor of Medicine Flinders University 214941 Bachelor of Clinical Sciences/Doctor of Medicine The University of Adelaide 314552 Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery 314553 Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (Bonded Medical place) 324491 Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Bioscience) The Scheme does not apply to courses offered by CQUniversity Australia. In this Scheme, students will be awarded two points, up to a maximum of four points, for successfully completing a subject in any one of these four categories: A Group 2 Second Language subject English A Literature (SL or HL) or English A Language and Literature (SL or HL) or Literature and Performance (SL) Further Mathematics (HL) Mathematics (SL or HL) Successful completion is defined as gaining a minimum grade of 3 if the subject has been taken at higher level (HL), or a minimum grade of 4 if the subject has been taken at standard level (SL). Because the Scheme is designed to encourage enrolments in these subjects rather than reward outcomes, no higher bonuses will be granted for higher achievement. 7
