Pediatric Seating COURSE DESCRIPTION This course was constructed to provide opportunity to enhance the skill level of therapists providing wheelchair seating evaluations including seating, positioning, adaptations, systems, and the process flow related to wheelchair seating needs of pediatric patients. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Healthcare professionals involved in the practice of rehabilitation with interest in pediatric care. The disciplines are occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and other community providers. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of the course participants should be able to: Articulate various positioning philosophies related to pediatric clientele Demonstrate pediatric mat examination techniques Evaluate various seating challenges Implement positioning strategies to meet the individual needs of the pediatric client Understand the importance of early mobility for children Apply power wheelchair assessment strategies for children Explore a variety of access methods for power wheelchairs Demonstrate pre-mobility and mobility training strategies for children LOCATION/PARKING INFORMATION Free parking is available in the Damon Parking Ramp, which is located on 3rd Avenue SW. Guest rooms have been reserved for the attendees and their guests with special course rate of $97 per night at the Hilton Garden Inn. Lodging arrangements are the sole responsibility of the individual registrant. The guest room block is located under Mayo Clinic Pediatric Wheelchair Course and will be available through October 10, 2008.

Pediatric Seating COURSE SPEAKER Michelle L. Lange, OTR, ABDA, ATP Michelle is an occupational therapist with 20 years of experience in the area of assistive technology. She is the former Clinical Director of The Assistive Technology Clinics of The Children s Hospital of Denver and is now in private practice. Michelle s work in assistive technology includes a broad range of roles and services. She is a well-respected lecturer, both nationally and internationally and has authored seven book chapters and over 100 articles. Michelle is the editor of Fundamentals in Assistive Technology, 4th Ed. Michelle is on the teaching faculty of RESNA and a member of the Assistive Technology Journal Editorial Board. She is a past RESNA Secretary, Member at Large, member of the Board of Directors, Education Chair and SIG-09 Vice Chair. Michelle is also on the teaching faculty of the University of Pittsburgh for the Review Course on Assistive Technology. Michelle is on the RERC on Wheeled Mobility Advisory Board. She is also former Editor of the Technology Special Interest Section of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Michelle is a credentialed ATP and is a Senior Disability Analyst of the American Board of Disability Analysts. CREDIT Mayo Clinic - Rochester Campus is an approved provider of continuing education by the American Occupational Therapy Association #5660. The assignment of AOTA CEUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content, products or clinical procedures by AOTA. At the conclusion of this conference, participants will be awarded a certificate for up to 0.7 AOTA CEUs. This course meets the criteria for 7.5 category I Continuing Education Units per Minnesota Physical Therapy Rules 5601.2500 & subparts 5601-2200 to 5601-2600 TUITION Physician - $150.00 Resident/Allied Health Staff - $150.00 AOTA members - $135.00 Student fee - $50 REFUND If you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee, less a 25% administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is received by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Education Committee up to 14 days prior to the course. No refunds will be made after that date. The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Education Committee reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event a course must cancel or be postponed, the Mayo Clinic Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Education Committee will refund the registration fee but is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees assessed by airline / travel / lodging agencies.
